Woodpeckers Dovetail Marking Gauges

Woodpeckers has been rolling out quite a few “one time” tools lately, with the latest being these crisp-looking dovetail marking gauges and saddle squares.

Dovetail Marking Gauges

These markers are available in 3 angle ratios – 1:8 for use on hardwood, 1:6 for softwood, and 1:7 as a compromise. These dovetail angles are established rule of thumb standards, but are not set in stone. They’re priced at $21.99 each, and you have until Monday 1/17/2011 to order. The first batch is due to ship the week of 2/14/2011. If demand is high enough, there might be a second offering.

Woodpecker Saddle Squares

Woodpeckers 90 Degree Saddle Square

A saddle square is used to extend a mark on a workpiece from one face to a perpendicular face. This helps eliminate errors and inaccuracies when using a square or other narrow tool instead. Woodpckers’ saddle squares are available with either 90° or 45° profiles, and are engraved with high precision inch or metric markings.

The only downside about these saddle squares is the price – $29.99 for the right angle saddle squares, $39.99 for the 45° one. You have until 1/3/2011 order these, and they’re expected to ship out in mid-January. This is the second/last chance to order one.

Tying in with your Lee Valley (free shipping) post – they offer their Veritas brand saddle squares in 2 sizes plus dovetail markers (3) and what they call a miter (saddle) square. I think prices are in the $15 to $16 range
