Amazon has this Workpro 3pc bit holder keychain set for $4.99 after discount and clippable coupon. At this price, I couldn’t pass it up.
I don’t know how long the deal pricing or coupon offer will last, and so there’s no time for me to vet it first. My order is due to be delivered in 5 days, and I figured there’s a greater chance that the price will go up than my being disappointed with their quality.
I didn’t see the point of keychain bit holder for a while, and then I found some good ones, and then I also found ones that can be used as stubby screwdrivers.

These look to be pretty basic.
Amazon has been flooded with cheap bit holding keychains from tons of alphabet soup brands. Workpro tends to take pride in what they do, and so I trust them more than various no-name brands offering similar accessories.
So, while I prefer my fancy bit holders that can only be ordered from retailers in Japan, and there are tons of cheap copycats on Amazon, I like to think that Workpro wouldn’t have put their name on a junky version.
Some of you might be wondering what the heck these are for.

Basically, you use these to organize and even color-code your 1/4″ hex shank accessories. Instead of tossing them into a case, pocket, or tool bag, you pop them into a bit holder that can be attached to a carabiner, clip, or similar, for easy access.
These have become pretty popular with tradespeople and other pros.

While I haven’t seen anyone use drill bits in these, I’ve seen them used with screwdriver bits, socket adapters, bit holders and extensions, and nutdrivers.
I use mine for more or less the same – bit extensions, screwdriver bits, nutdrivers – and it’s helped me cut down on the number of bits I lose during projects that involve a lot of movement.
3 for $5 plus a carabiner seems pretty good.
Update: You can only use the coupon once per order, but it looks like you can use the coupon for repeated orders.

Thanks for the post. I ordered 2 sets as stocking stuffers.
Had to do it as separate orders – to get the $2 off on each set
Stuart
Thanks! I updated the post. I saw the same, that the coupon can be used for multiple orders. Usually there’s a limit of one per customer, but it looks like that’s not the case here.

Like most of us, probably, I’ve got way too many insert bits/longer “power” bits, and I’ve also got an assortment of handles, drivers & wrenches to combine with the bits. I want to keep the bits on my bench, and for them to be portable too.
While these holders are another “solution” to the complexity resulting from so much flexibility, I’m still hunting for something comprehensive. Some cheap book-like folders from China are doing the job for me with the longer bits currently, but they’re not quite ideal yet.
We’re in a huge paradigm shift in tool boxes; I’m hoping for another in bit handling.
Stuart
This is more for quick-access.
There are a lot of innovative bit cases, storage boxes, and rails for 1″ insert bits.

You should have seen an assembly bench in our fabrication shop. Job-specific bulk bits were brought out to the bench in labelled bins. Procedures were in place to double-check bin content in the tool room and then at the bench before use. Clients spec’d several different cross-point styles and other fasteners that we needed to avoid mix-ups between fastener and drive bit. The same was true for older assemblies in the shop for rework. Then, after so many drives bits were trashed – replaced with fresh bits.

Want to add that this is for like when you on a roof or ladder and need a few different bits. You would transfer bits between these holders and whatever holder case that you should have.
Stuart
Or anyone climbing into an attic.
I feel that $5 is “try me” pricing. And if you guys like it, we can then talk about all the fancy holders and attachments I bought from Amazon Japan.

In the past I’ve bought ones from Engineer – that you posted about back in 2020
And – ones from Vessel like these:

The Vessel one is awesome! Posted about it here: https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/vessels-ball-grip-keychain-tool/%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E

Love the ability to keep a Phillips, 20T and 25T on my keychain. It wastes time bringing a drill/driver somewhere and finding the wrong bit for the fastener. The vast majority of my driving is with Torx and Phillips.

Just bought a couple of these from another Amazon vendor to clip on my portable tool tote bags. Thinking it might be an easier way to store my most used drive bits rather than fumbling through a deep pocket. Time will tell

I seem to have inadvertently solved this problem by having enough drills to have each common bit pre-chucked and ready. Works great in the garage. This looks to be more portable…

These bit holders keep letting go and dropping my bits on the job site. Sometimes I find the bits on the ground and sometimes they are gone for good. I stopped using them after the fourth incident.
Stuart
This brand, or bit holders in general? Some are better than others. I haven’t tested these yet.
If it happens to all of them, it could be that your motions are pressing in on the quick-release buttons, in which case the design might not be compatible with how you work.

Just a question on Workpro; I have seen their products for years, early 2000’s or maybe even late 1990’s, I bought a few of their tape measures at HD.
I was under the impression they are or were an HD brand, like HDX. Do you know if they are or were in the past associated to HD?
Their products have always been entry level priced, but still useable. (not cheap garbage)

Workpro is a GreatStar brand (SK, Shop Vac, Pony, Arrow, Goldblatt). They also make a lot of tools for other brands.
GreatStar is an OEM, and the have a pliers wrench for SK their now-owned brand, and the Bosch pliers look identical, thus I concluded with reasonable certainty they’re making at least some of Bosch’s hand tools. https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/bosch-pliers-wrench-sk-tools-similarities/%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E
I’m under the impression that they made tools for Kobalt before, and they have a lot of other brand partners.
I’ve mostly seen Workpro tools at the entry price point and maybe lower-medium price point levels.

They make the majority of their own items and ODM for many others, too, but they also have some…exchange agreements or whatever it may be called…where they’ll rebadge some items from other guys in the chain over there. Simple items are fine but many are kind of upper-lower to lower-middle quality, not on par with decent middle quality stuff from other brands/mfrs or what generally comes out of Taiwan still. They definitely have a number of items are are low quality, too. They’re decent enough that I feel they’re worth a look as a brand if you need something in that price/quality range.
They (GreatStar) also own Pony/Jorgensen and ShopVac now. At first, the Pony clamps appeared to maintain the same quality but gradually over the last 2-3 years, GreatStar has cheapened several items, altered other longstanding successful designs, and made some go away. Same thing that unfortunately happens to many who move overseas entirely or get bought up like this. Curious what will ultimately happen with ShopVac.

I ordered a set yesterday at the ~$5 price, then today I went to order a second set and the price went up $1. There is still a 2$ coupon, but the starting price went up. So 5.99 with coupon instead of the 4.99 the other day.
Stuart
Sorry, these are sold by the company directly on Amazon; I’m guessing they saw a spike in sales and decided to increase the price. Not cool, Workpro.
