Milwaukee Free Battery Promo with Bare Tools at Acme Tools 7-18-2019

I should point out that the Milwaukee bare tool coupon code, MILWTHANKS, stacks on top of the “FREE Milwaukee M18 starter kit with 2 select M18 Fuel bare tools” promo.

I added two of those eligible tools to my cart, and see the bonus tool bag and 2x 5.0Ah battery package in my cart at no extra charge, as well as 10% discounts on the bare tools thanks to the coupon code.

Discounts don’t appear until you add to cart (and they *might* depend on visiting the sale page first? Not sure). In any event, DCL070 for $199? Yes, please!

Trying to figure out what makes the little die grinder as expensive as the metal circular saw, and more than that mid-torque impact wrench or the FUEL Hackzall. Maybe it will drop a lot at 7pm?

I was watching these this morning (the 19th) and just realized they are for yesterday…
Out of curiosity, what was the deal price on the makita circular saw and/or 4 5ah batteries. It shows as 350 now.

The Makita circular saw was $80 off the kit with 2x batteries (but I think the 4x battery kit at the regular price is a better deal).

Stuart, maybe this belongs in a different thread, but did you have any thoughts on the issue of the relative costs for different bare tools that I asked about?

In my past (pre retirement) life – two of the businesses I had an interest in were small-scale manufacturing/fabrication shops.
We never rose to the level of mass-market production – but did do a bit of speculating about what our profits might be if we could take some of our products up a notch in volume. For the most part this was idle speculation – and most goods that went out the door had their costs and/or bid price based on an all inclusive cradle to grave model including costs of design, raw materials and components, fabrication, testing (if required) and shipping. We’d naturally factor in our O&M, overheads, cost of capital, labor and profit into the calculation.

For a big tool company their model probably tries to account for the volume of sales over some estimated timeframe. A more common – better selling tool may be priced more competitively – spreading first costs over a larger base than a more specialized tool that is expected to have a lower sales volume. They may also factor in some risk assessment about sales and/or a cost assignment model that spreads their overheads out differently over time – so that new-to-market tools may have price (MSRP) to cost ratios that differ from those applied to more mature tools. All this is just my speculation – but I learned early on that cost to deliver an item to the consumer is not always related by some constant formula to the price the consumer is asked to pay.

Excellent points all, Fred. I assumed that sales volumes would be one of multiple factors; you’ve introduced my brain to a host of other variables. Thanks!

There are a lot of factors of unknown weight or pricing influence, such as production costs, perceived user demand, competitive pricing, competitive advantages, relative positioning among existing products, and so forth.

I went shopping for school supplies this week. A 16-count pack of Crayola crayons is $1. A 24-count pack is $0.50.

During promo seasons, you can buy special buy kits for less than bare tools.

Marketing is tough to understand without the right insights. What you asked about is at the limit of what I can guess.
