Over at the ToolGuyd Forum, Fred has been really busy, compiling a visual list of all kinds of different pliers.
I thought I’ve done a good job of introducing you guys to all kinds of different pliers, and am always on the lookout for new and useful designs to try out and post about. But apparently there are quite a few pliers that I don’t know about.

Thanks for the kind words – I’ve been out of the country or would have replied sooner.
I’m at a point in my life where I’m downsizing rather than accumulating and travelling rather than staying put. As Stuart notes I try to remember that I should share some of the wealth that I’ve been fortunate enough to have amassed and encourage others who can, to do the same.
Imperfect as it is, I’m also happy to share my knowledge and perspectives on tools. I also take a great interest in continually learning more from others – which keeps me coming back to reading what’s posted on ToolGuyd

Does anyone know of a belt-mounted tape measure holder that latches onto the measure’s provided clip? If I could design my own, it would lock the tool with the single motion of clipping it in and unlatch with maybe two motions, like a twist and lift.

Look into getting some thick kydex and form your own holster. Just look on amazon for ‘kydex kit’ it come with the hardware needed to make a holster for a handgun. Should work great for a tape measure holster. Becareful though, custom holsters can become an addiction. Before you know it everything will have a custom holster.

These have a bayonet fitting that screws to the tape measure in place of the standard spring clip. Komelon tapes are good quality and starting to be imported into the West.

I use mine just on the tape side, as it then allows me to clip the tape to the side of my toolbox and always have it at hand.

I work in the film industry. We modify Vise Grips into what are known as Quacker clamps (east coast) or a platypus (west coast). Adding some flexible squares of metal to the jaws, these clamps hold in places large squares of reflective material (usually bead board or foamcore) for lighting the scene. Also an industry standard 5/8″ “baby pin” is added to allow the clamp to be held securely in place by a stand.

That is the most amazing list I have seen in my life. I tip my hat to Fred and will bookmark that page for eternity. Might take weeks to absorb all of that.

I like that he included the Engineer screw pliers, fantastic pliers and really a must-have tool. There is no better screw extractor for non-flush screws.
The Engineer E-clip pliers he has there are a neat idea but they don’t work. I have them, the jaws are too thick to get under a clip.

Holy crap. I wish I’d had those Z-bend pliers earlier this year.

What were you using them for? I could use them on electronics leads for through-hole components that are on a board with surface-mount pads. You see this on LCD inverter boards a lot, normally I just use relay adjusting pliers and bend it twice, this would just be one squeeze. I didn’t know they existed until I started looking for some additional pliers for the list.

Can anyone help? I have a mystery pliers tool. It has three standing owls trade mark on the pivot pin. The two jaws are different lengths. Both have a roller on each side of the jaw.
