Amazon Denali 20V Cordless Drill and Circular Saw

The new line includes the most common types of cordless power tools, and two battery sizes, 2Ah and 4Ah, plus a 2.4A standard charger.

Amazon doesn’t provide much information about the new tools or Denali cordless lineup, other than to say it’s “ideal for weekend warriors and serious do-it-yourselfers.

Is Amazon trying to take on Ryobi, Craftsman, and Harbor Freight, or maybe just the countless no-name brands of cordless power tools already available on their site and marketplace?

Whatever Amazon’s motivation, this is definitely an interesting development. What makes it even more interesting is the fact these tools are powered by Skil, a Chervon brand.

Chervon produces tools for their own cordless power tool brands, such as Skil, EGO, and Flex, as well as other brands, such as Kobalt. Chervon also used to be an OEM for Sears’ Craftsman cordless power tool systems, such as C3 and Nextec.

It will be interesting to see what Amazon does with their new Denali cordless power tool system.

Clearly made by Chevron, and the charger looks like left over Kobalt 24v chargers. Hopefully this sets a precedent for battery compatibility. The only similar thing that comes to mind is DeWalt and Mac Tools 20v batteries.

That Denali 4v cordless screwdriver looks quite like the Worx WX240L 4v cordless screwdriver. They even have similar specs. I don’t believe Skil itself has a similar screwdriver.

So that $129 set on Amazon that kept appearing and disappearing was by Skil. It is fulfilled by Amazon, but it either kept selling out or something… I eventually bought one once it came back again. $129 for A drill, impact, circular saw and reciprocating saw was the best deal I’ve seen for a 2nd tier cordless set. I would have guessed this denali set would have been more likely to receive a promotion like that, but only briefly saw Denali advertised.

Amazon has a tough row to hoe if they think they’re going to escape the current image of the one million different minor brands that are ubiquitous on their site… Basically the same thing Harbor Freight had to face, minus the sheer volume of the internet.

HF finally decided to focus on a couple of brands for their power tools… Amazon will have to do the same thing or why else would we pay attention?

Uh… Are you sure Amazon did this? I’ve seen Denali tools on AliExpress quite frequently… Are you sure it’s not just one of the AliExpress Marketplace sellers that have taken a more permanent place in Amazon’s sponsored listings?

And, no… I don’t debate they’re the original, by Chevron, Skil-compatible tools… I’m just wondering if this is the same Chinese seller making a deal to supply Amazon with this brand. Though… That Screwdriver looks painfully like the Dremel/Bosch Go/4V Screwdriver.

Technically, I see they spec up equivalent to SBD matches up to Mastercraft/Maximum/MotoMaster products at Canadian Tire. What the house brands lack, is minute compared to the name brands that the manufacturer makes for everyone else. Mastercraft = Stanley, Mastercraft/Max/Maximum = DeWALT, MotoMaster ~= Proto (In Design Only.)

In this case… Denali @ AliExpress & Amazon ~= Skil with a different paint job.

It’s a brilliant move because you know if they discontinue it you can still buy skill and those will be interchangeable for batteries etc. they’ll get a good chunk of the entry level / consumer market- I would say they’re competing with Walmart Hart with this brand.

Just checking… In fact I spent an hour scouring AliExpress looking for Denali, and they’ve disappeared from there.

So… I fully admit I was duped! Denali appears to have fully migrated to an Amazon brand, like Amazon Basics and Alexa/Echo/Ring!

Glad to see the Chevron brand support it though. Good step to take, entering House-Brand status! I’m still a DeWALT guy, with very few exceptions… but I like the ability to test a tool’s utility in your general workflow, by buying a housebrand first, seeing if you desperately need it, then investing in a main brand you know and trust for that tool. In this? Canadian Tire has spoiled me.

          No.

Denali has been an Amazon tool brand for a very long time, with on-and-off presence at times. It didn’t “fully migrate” to an Amazon brand, it has been an Amazon brand for a while.

Maybe they’re now going after infringement violations? I couldn’t say – I have only ever seen Denali tools at Amazon and by Amazon.

Amazon won’t let any product listings be advertized with “Amazon” in the title unless it’s actually their brand.

      So it’s 100% their brand.

I think you’re right about chervon making nextec, but did they make any c3 stuff? I would think since c3 was by and large tti that they wouldn’t let someone else make compatible tools. Did chervon make the recent 20v tools possibly?

In any case, the compatibility is a big deal and the prices are good. Easy to recommend for a low-use application

I believe that TTI supplied some of Sears’ Craftsman C3 tools, and Stanley Black & Decker supplied the 20V Max Bolt-On tools (similar to their B&D Matrix.)

I know for a fact that Chervon manufactured certain tools for Sears’ Craftsman C3 line – Max Axess ratchet, C3 Hammerhead auto hammer, OMT, and likely others – I believe one of their first brushless tools as well.

Sears had partners all over the place – they had power tools made by Chervon, Positec, Stanley Black & Decker, Bosch, and TTI. It’s almost unbelievable when you think about how many different tool brands were involved with Sears’ Craftsman brand.

Honestly a little surprised it took Amazon this long to have their own line of power tools. It’s a pretty crowded took market nowadays but the prices seem reasonable, wouldn’t surpirse me to see these to sell well. So many people shop on Amazon regularly right now, these could end up being the choice brand for occasional users, first time took buyers, etc.

Amazon has held the Denali trademark since 2007, but it doesn’t seem like they updated it for power tools.

There are MANY other Denali trademarks, but as long as they’re in different industries and are unlikely to cause consumer confusion, it’s generally not infringement.

Amazon seems to be the only holder with respect to tools or related accessories.

They sell so many other brands of knockoff chinesium cordless tools I’m a little surprised. But I do like the idea at least in that why buy the skil tool at Lowes when I can buy the same cheaper off amazon now.

How long until there is a Denali Pro line that is in say I don’t know green and it’s the Flex brand 24V tool?

And while at it there might as well be Denali OPE

Of course Amazon could. Amazon could do it better than Milwaukee.

Milwaukee eService is pretty ridiculous if you’re a pro user. Mail the tool in, wait 7-10 days to get the tool mailed back? What are you supposed to do in the meantime? Might as well buy the same tool and keep on working.

Amazon easily has the logistics for advance returns, where they can ship you a brand new tool free of charge to use, as long as they get the broken tool back for repair. Amazon could basically run a Hilti-like program with dramatically shorter turnaround times than Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, etc. Amazon already has a similar program but for clothes: Prime Try Before You Buy. They send you clothes free of charge and if you keep it, you get charged.

Yes but I don’t so much want to say it as a professional aimed line. I was more thinking like they would decide the denali stuff sells well enough they might try to use the rest of the chevon line to sell other items.

So the Flex is different from the Skil but similar – so Denali Pro would be their version of the same Flex tool. and I think that would be a good sell to anyone that recognized the extra capacity and abilities. But not so much marketed to professionals directly. If that makes any sense.

Same with the OPE – being Ego but not their top tier items.

etc etc. and eventually Amazon sells their own version of everything chevon makes for Lowes.

All fully dependent on how well these items sell. to be fair I might point my BIL to these items.

At that price, and if they perform similar to the Skil, I think they will do quite well. Yes, Amazon has so many no name cheap brands, but these are inexpensive and personally, if I needed inexpensive entry level tools, I would go with these rather than a name I never heard of and might not exist next week.

Went to check amazon and the Denali line cost the same as skil or a bit more expensive. The prices on this page were probably bait and switch prices. The 20V Denali driver and the skil one have the same specs (brushed). Maybe amazon got to much heat for stealing products and branding them as “amazon” so now they got skil to make a Denali line for them (listed as Amazon product – Denali by skil).

Ive a few skil 20v products and theyre fine for my uses. I was actually looking for other battery operated tools that can use the skil batteries (or an adapter to use the skil batteries with other brands of tools) and I found this page.

That’s not what bait and switch means.

These were the introductory sale prices at the time of the posting in December. They must have raised prices since then. I’d bet there will be another sale, either for Father’s Day or Prime Day. Only Amazon knows what they’re doing.

Got the Denali Mod. ADJ5275B-00 from auction site looked new, used for an hour or so and the gears striped out (junk) now looking for compatible parts to rebuild the striped gears. Think I paid about $20 for the bag, battery charger drill/battery. Now stuck searching, maybe Skil 20v max will interchange at parts supply. Not such a good deal now.
