Amazon Prime Day 2020 Info and Tool Deals Predictions

Amazon Prime Day 2020

What is Amazon Prime Day? Prime Day is a special 2-day deals event on Amazon. It’s described as 2 days of “epic deals.”

When is Amazon Prime Day in 2020? Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Amazon’s Prime Day has been pushed back 3 months from July to October, and has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 13th and Wednesday, October 14th.

(Oct 13th-14th, 2020)

What Tool Deals Might we See? For prior Amazon Prime Day sales events, we’ve seen deals on select on Bosch cordless power tools, Dewalt cordless power tools, Wera hand tools, Makita tools, and some other brands. Some of these tool deals are bound to be repeated this year for the 2020 sale.

For example, there has been a 20% deal on select Wera hand tools in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Unless there are strong reasons against it (such as tariffs driving up prices), it’s possible and maybe even likely we’ll see a similar promo this year.

Amazon has expanded their selection of Craftsman hand and power tools in 2019, and have only been adding more since then. I’ve been seeing a rise in Amazon-Craftsman co-branded banner ads as I search the web. Another Craftsman deal seems likely, in addition to the typical Dewalt deals and promos we can reasonably expect to see.

It’s difficult to make any specific predictions, as Amazon does tend to change things up every now and then, as we’ve seen with Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. Still, I’d predict that we might see a Bosch cordless deal – maybe the 18V FlexiClick kit? – and maybe the Wera 20% off select hand tools promo.

Prior Years’ Prime Day Tool Deals

Past tool deals might be a good predictor of the types of tool deals we can expect to see this year. Take a look and see if you can find any patterns that align with your hopes and wants.

  • Prime Day 2019 Tool Deals
  • Prime Day Craftsman Tool Deals
  • Prime Day Bosch FlexiClick Deal
  • Prime Day 2018 Tool Deals
  • Prime Day 2018 Wera Deal
  • Prime Day 2018 Bosch and Dewalt Tool Deals
  • Prime Day 2017 Tool Deals
  • Prime Day 2016 Tool Deals

How to Prepare? You need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber (or trial member). If you’re not a Prime member and used up your free trial, you could potentially sign up for just the month for $12.99.

What kinds of tool deals do you think or hope we’ll see?

I’ve been underwhelmed by Amazon’s tool offerings on Parime day the last several years. Seems to be a lot of generic branded China tools.

Yes. Just marketing. Must show that home gamers are using it for tools.

Last year I bought Bosch Flexiclick, plus a 14-pc drill bit set, for $105 before tax. This was also the best price for just Flexiclick (without drill bits) at the end of the year during BF/CM/Christmas/NewYear sales.

    “Epic Deals” ?
The last few years most of the deals seemed a bit ho-hum to me.
Anyway “epics” should have a hero akin to Gilgamesh, Achilles, Odysseus or Aeneas – so I guess in this case it is Bezos – who can be celebrated on some new-world altar of mammon.
I should not complain however – having bought some Amazon stock back in March and having seen it nearly double in selling price. Maybe I’ll put a sell order in for Prime Day.

I think the prime day deals are best on Amazon stuff. We’ll probably see lots of discounts on Fire, Echo, Kindle and maybe Ring products. Aside from that, I never saw a deal that was better than a mid year sale as shown by CCC, or a regular Ebay price.

CCC only shows you the listing price. There are a lot of “clickable coupon” deals and at-checkout discounts and promos That aren’t picked up by external price tracking websites.

That’s a good point. I never really come across clickable discounts that are that good. Often they’re $5 off or up to 10% off. Anything larger I tend to see here first.

But I also learned many years ago to make a list of needs, and a desired price. I don’t buy if it’s not on the list and below the desired price. It takes serious discipline. Especially when I check ToolGuyd every day.

Once upon a time I paid for Prime membership. Then about 6 months ago, their free “2-day” shipping benefit turned into 5 or 8 days to my rural area. Amazon still calls it “2-day” shipping, ironically. The cost of Prime now outweighs benefits, IMO.

During this stay-at-home age of COVID – they are pushing Prime more as a media-delivery to your TV vehicle – rather than package to your door van.

The sad thing is that Amazon has built the cost of shipping into nearly every single item – whether you have Prime or not. Their shipping price model and costing reflects shipping 1 item at a time rather than multiples. So if they add in $4 for shipping a single small box of screws – then its $40 added on if you buy 10. Other online purveyors who offer free shipping based on some threshold spending – free ship to store – or shipping cost based on weight are often better priced when you buy small items – or multiples. So it may be good to shop around if low price is your object. To be fair – Amazon often offers a combination of good price, reliable shipping, fair return/refund policy and decent tracking information and policies in dealing with third-party vendors.
