Amazon Prime Day 2020

Amazon Prime Day 2020, their 2-day sales event, has started, with deals on 10/13 and 10/14/2020.

We’ll start off here with a look at all of the tool deals that went live 10/13 at 3am ET. We’ll check back for more deals, and if you find a good tool deal that we missed, please let us know!

Some of the deals are quite good, but it depends on what you’re looking for. I’d say definitely check out the Wera hand tool deals, as this is one of the most popular deals every year and some of the items tend to sell out early.

As a reminder, you must be an Amazon Prime subscriber to take part in these deals. If you’re not, consider a free trial or pay for a month’s membership if the savings are big enough.

See All Prime Day Deals Here

Amazon’s listings are a mess, but I tried to be as complete as possible in finding all of the tool-related deals. Again, please let us know if we missed anything, or if there are any errors or early sell-outs!

Nothing I really need unfortunately. I was hoping they would have had a deal on the Metabo HPT router since it had been a lower price recently, but it doesn’t look like it. (I don’t really want the Bosch router with the $50 off since it’d still be more expensive and some of the reviews make me question it.)

Non-tool related I was wanting a new Firestick and they don’t even have those on sale like they normally do.

    Kind of disappointing overall.

According to aftvnews, the Fire Stick 4K is on sale for $30 and some customers may be able to use a code to get it for $5.

Bosch 12v planer plus 6.0ah battery comes to $184 after discount, which is a great deal if you already have a charger.

Wow, that is solid. The bare tool’s lowest price is $149.

I was hoping to combine the planer and another tool (don’t need batteries) to get right at $200 to maximize savings, but it looks like other tools are at $100+

I greatly appreciate you putting not to get excited on the Williams hand tool deals. I am in the process of making my whole tool set made in USA and am mainly using USA Williams and proto. The quality for price level in USA Williams is close to unbeatable

I personally have mostly Williams and Proto sockets and wrenches from 50-60 years ago. Unfortunately – I’ve noticed that some Williams items are now made in Taiwan – so its worth checking if you want USA-made.

For the business – we’d collect a shopping list of Proto, Starrett and Williams items we wanted as replacements etc. and wait on a Zoro sale (they used to be 25-30% off – but now 20% off is more common)

You’re welcome! I was optimistic, but also saw the only deal of potentially broad interest was on one of their imported socket sets.

If I recall correctly, an all-numbers SKU means that Williams product is imported.and I know that’s not what most readers would be hoping for.

If you do a Camel^3 search on many of the Wera items, Amazon just jacked up the prices 15%. So the “deal” basically gets you the price they were this summer.

I noticed that. It’s an old school retail pricing trick, particularly used around the holidays. Guess you have to appreciate the sleazy nod to heritage.

The Wera items that I’m looking at are at the typical Amazon price or lower than what I’ve seen recently.

I use camelcamelcamel all the time to check prices, but tracking one of the Wera screwdriver sets there does not agree with what I’ve been seeing on Amazon recently. It’s back to what was its normal ~$33 price but recently it’s been up at ~$43. Camel… shows it peaking there and coming back down. That’s not what I’ve been seeing.

I ordered the Wera micro screwdriver set for $23.78 – 15% and it came yesterday. The set that arrived is not the one shown on Amazon’s site.

It is the /B version and newer than the ones shown, I think (Wera numbering can be a big pain for me to figure out). The drivers have the new color bands indicating type (red = Phillips, yellow = flat/slotted). And, instead of a PH00, it has a PH1 (to go with the PH0). I’m actually happy about that since I like the PH1 micro drivers. Of course, I had also ordered a couple separately since I didn’t know I was getting one in the set. I guess I’ll be ordering a PH00 and PH000 next. 🙂

Could be too close to Black Friday?

Maybe supply disruptions prevented them from arranging for compelling deals?

There are some very good discounts, but mainly aimed at entry-level consumers and homeowners and the such, and not much for hobbyists, advanced users, or pros.

There are some industrial-sector deals, but most look like the tools that you buy as and when you need them.

The thing to remember is that these deals are largely brand-organized right now. Amazon can only do so much, a lot has been put in the hands of their suppliers.

I agree on that they are waiting until Black Friday. I figured most of these specials are organized with the brands not just Amazon discounting stuff. If they’re going to have Ring Doorbells for $69 they’re probably going to have to stockpile like a half million of them, that’s coordination.

I don’t know… some weird stuff is going on. There are upcoming “deals” on Bosch tools that aren’t available in the USA, and a Milwaukee drill bit set, but Amazon isn’t an authorized dealer for Milwaukee tools.

Here’s the fixed link. (This happen a lot when copying from forums.)

That does look like a good deal, and cleaner-looking that the many metal wire-style organizers I’ve seen. Too bad the base isn’t magnetic, but that could be quick to DIY with magnetic strips. Or, maybe a self-adhesive rubber pad would be good for drawers or benchtops without grippy liners.

      Thanks for the find!

    Oooops…. Sorry about the link!

Magnetic would be nice BUT….. it isn’t available (yet).

I started with the Olsa divider that was adjustable but I must have bought the last units on the planet as Olsa discontinued them and they were a thing of the past with all the retailers I he led with when I wanted to purchase more. That led me to the Ernst. They weren’t adjustable and little pliers are loose and some are tight or won’t even fit. I’m going to try the GearWrench and just hope as I dropped another $120 in my quest for a great all round rack.
