Amazon has a sale on Leatherman multi-tools right now, with a 20% discount on Wave+, Rebar, and Rev models.
Leatherman backs their multi-tools with a 25 year warranty, which has been known to be hassle-free.
There are some notable differences between the tools, which I’ll touch upon here.

Amazon only gave the Rebar its “lowest price in 30 days” label, but they’re all discounted from their regular pricing.
Amazon Deal on Leatherman Wave+ Multi-Tool

The Wave+ is Leatherman’s bestselling multi-tool, and for good reason. It’s packed with useful tools and premium features, such as one-hand-opening knife blades and replaceable wire cutting blades.
I have an older version of the Wave from before it received the upgraded wire cutters, and I can’t say I’ve ever regretted it. Yes, Leatherman has more premium tools now, such as the ARC and FREE series tools, but this is their best tool at anywhere close to $100 right now.
Regular Price: $119.95
Sale Price: $95.96
Amazon Deal on Leatherman Wingman Multi-Tool

The Wingman is a more budget-friendly multi-tool model.
While not as featured as the more premium Wave+, Leatherman’s quality still shines through.

I’d describe this as a great starting point for users who want a Leatherman at lower pricing, and it can still serve as a great backup or portable tool kit multi-tool if you upgrade to something fancier later on.
Regular Price: $69.95
Sale Price: $55.96
Amazon Deal on Leatherman Rebar Multi-Tool

Leatherman designed the Rebar with a more traditional multi-tool design.
You don’t get one-handed opening tools or knife blades, but the result is a tool that feels more compact to me.
The pliers are the star of the show here, but all of the functions are also very usable.
I love that Leatherman added more color options. The plain silver version is the least expensive, but all of the colors are discounted right now.
Regular Price: $79.95 (silver) 89.95 (colors)
Sale Price: $63.96 (silver), $71.96 (colors)

Other Options for less than $40
Looking for a multi-tool but aren’t quite ready to spend $50 to $100 or more? Here are some alternative options for under $40.

Victorinox Swiss Army Knives offer a very different multi-tool form factor.
Shown here is the Huntsman in black, which at the time of this posting is priced under $40. There are other colors and styles available, with a list price of $52.

The SOG PowerPint is a smaller multi-tool with big features.
I’d say it’s around 80% the size of a regularly-sized multi-tool. It incorporates some of the features SOG puts in their full-size tools.

The Gerber Suspension NXT is a well-featured and brand-name tool.
My first real multi-tool was a very similar Gerber, and it helped me learn my EDC likes and dislikes. It was still useful for years after I upgraded to something better.

The great thing about the Wingman is that it has a pocket clip, and is actually small enough to keep in your pocket, in place of a regular pocket knife. When I worked construction, I’d regularly keep the wingman in one pocket and a folding utility knife in the other, a perfect pair!

I have a handful of knives and multitools and the Wingman is probably my most carried. I think I prefer it to my Skeletool – I’ve used every tool on it and don’t feel as though it has anything unnecessary. I haven’t tried any of their Free tools, but would love to at some point.
Since you mentioned a $40 Victorinox, I really like my Alox Pioneer. It has a nice form factor and just the basics- blade, awl, can opener, bottle opener, and flat head drivers. I frequently carry this as well.

The Wingman’s real advantage is that it’s one of the only two Leatherman tools with a spring-loaded opening action for the pliers. And tools are easily swapped between the Wingman and Sidekick to make your own custom version.
Scott K
I never understood why only the lower priced tools have this. To me, this makes the Wingman so much more enjoyable to use.

The Huntsman is my favorite camping multi-tool – it has all the tools you need for bushcraft fun.

I like the Huntsman a lot. It has all the important camping tools without going overboard and weighing down your pocket too much.

The sog powerpint is my most carried multitool. it has everything you want from a SAK plus legit pliers, all small enough for “5th pocket” carry. Most other pliers based multi tools like my wave work best in a belt sheath. my second most carried is a skeletool, but i prefer the powerpint because I like having scissors.

I recently misplaced my Wave, which I need constantly, so I bought the Harbor Freight clone(thank you for posting about it some time back). I must say it’s a really good value for the money. It’s not totally the same thing but for the money you almost can’t not buy it..
Ps. I’ve used my Wave daily for 10 years, and it was worth every penny for me, and can also confirm the no- hassle warranty.

Remember when the Skeletool was $29 around the holidays a few years back? I wish I would have stocked up on them!

It was $30, and that was a full decade ago. I recently gifted what I believe was my last one.
All those deals were exclusive to Home Depot and involved a ton of inventory. I miss those deals too, but it’s clear they’re not coming back.
Scott K
I bought a Wingman and Sidekick as gifts back then and regret not buying more.
