I picked up the Worx starter set (https://www.lowes.com/pd/WORX-Rotary-Wood-and-Metal-Crafter/1002954678) at Lowes on Black Friday. I went there specifically to get this item. I bought it for my dad. He lost most of his workshop tools to Hurricane Michael and the subsequent looting back in 2018 and has been slow to replace them due to finances (insurance stinks–check your policy for coverages if you haven’t checked it recently.)
I hope this little set might be useful to replace a few of his tools. He’s 72 now, so he’s slowing down somewhat and has mobility issues so I though this could be used at a workbench instead of keeping up with several discrete tools.
On a side note, it was the first time I’ve been in Lowes in a long while. Not much had changed.

I would have bought these Tekton long reach pliers if I hadn’t read your previous post on the double joint long reach pliers. I bought a set of the Gearwrench pliers and the price has already gone up.

If you live in the Midwest and have Meijer Stores, they sell Tekton have have had Tekon 50% off for the last few weeks. Last I was their the sale ends 12/12. Selection was pretty picked on sockets and such, but a decent amount of pliers were still present.

How crappy is that $340 benchtop? Is it a case of “it works well but it’s small and after you pay for a stand you’re already getting close to a bigger one” or a “this thing would make harbor freight cry in shame and don’t even bother” or a “really the only problem is that the size is a bit small”.

It looks pretty similar to the Wahuda 6″ which sells for $400 usually. I have the 8″ version of that one, and it’s a great jointer. (Although Wahuda has cast iron tables instead of aluminum, and a spiral carbide cutterhead, so I can’t say for sure they’ll perform similarly.)
The biggest limitation is length of boards you can straighten reliably with a benchtop jointer. You can really only be guaranteed a straight result that’s twice the length of the infeed table. So for that PC model, it will be around 30″. You can do longer boards with practice and a little luck, but they won’t be perfect – I was getting about 0.025″ bow over a 6′ long board using similar length beds. You can always build extra infeed/outfeed supports though.

I was kind of intrigued by that incredibly slender Worx grinder. And that little rotary tool could be good too. Less interested in the other Worx tools, and actually, I don’t see the point of them.

Why not just have a 20v adapter and a slightly longer cord? That would be both cheaper and more effective…

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these. I’d like to try them, but I don’t really need them (already set with Dremel and Proxxon and I’ll probably pick up the new Ryobi rotary tool sometime). Most of the “reviews” I’ve read (and there aren’t many) are rehashed press releases.

I’m hoping they’re at least decent. The “base station” approach is what made me want to get it for my dad. He can keep up with one power supply/source and have it on a bench to use or take it around where he needs to do work. Unfortunately, since it is a gift, I can’t test it out first or I’d provide some feedback. I wanted to get the airbrush attachment for him but it was hard to source at purchase time.

For fine work the basestation approach makes the most sense – as you’re reducing the weight in the tool itself and putting it elsewhere.
I’m actually considering making an M12 “Extension cord” so I can power some of my tools with the battery weight on the desk.

You already have the cordless tools? That’s not an argument for buying them. If somebody asked me if they should buy a fork lift, I wouldn’t say, well I already HAVE a fork lift.
Put the battery on your person? Sure, except I’ve never needed to walk around with a soldering iron. I work with it on a bench, and the base can sit right on the bench. I don’t need it attached to me. Same with the rotary tool. The grinder might be different though.
The airbrush makes no sense at all. With typical airbrushes, you have an air hose and the tool itself, which hardly weighs anything. With this guy, you have a power cord instead of the air hose, plus you have the compressor motor mounted on the tool, which ADDS weight and bulk to the regular tool.

I see they are being clearanced out at lowes after the holiday sales happened and I don’t see many good reviews, mostly just sponsored/free tool reviews.
