Which power tools would you think are flying off shelves at lightning speeds this holiday season? Oscillating multi-tools? 12V or 18V cordless kits? Yes, but certain tools are selling even better.
We took a look to see which tools ToolGuyd visitors are reading about most, and then double checked Amazon’s bestsellers list for a second opinion. And the power tools DIYers are searching for and buying more than any other this holiday season… the Rockwell Versacut and Dremel Saw-Max.
Although initially surprising, it’s actually pretty easy to see why these tools are selling so well. Most home improvement and DIY projects require a fair bit of cutting, and there are many, many tools that serve this purpose. The Versacut and Saw-Max are multi-saws. They don’t just cut wood or plastic, they’re meant to cut a very wide range of materials.

While the Versacut and Saw-Max are not exactly unique and revolutionary, Rockwell and Dremel are very experienced at selling to their target audience. The tools work well, and they’re priced fairly affordably at $129. What we need to see next are saw-multi-tool combos!

I once again learned that I’m not the target audience for merchandizers – nor do my buying habits mirror the “bestsellers”. Although, that said – I do own 2 of the tools (Makita Cordless Circular Say and Makita Cordless Impact Wrench) that made Amazon’s top 20 – with about 15 of the saws in our inventory – but only 1 of the impact wrenches

I agree with Fred this time, but these tools aren’t being marketed to pros, or we would have already have them. Homeowner DIY types will always try to find the least expensive, yet practical way to get something done, and sometimes it works, the other times, they call guys like Fred, and me later.

Although meant as consumer tools, I feel that there is merit behind the two mini-saws. Some of the other tools on that list are what I would consider homeowner-specials, but many of them are tools I would consider using.

I have debated the Versacut but haven’t purchased yet. My guess is after the New Year we’ll see it go down in price and Amazon might have a few in the “warehouse deals” area. A year ago the Dremel Trio was the big Christmas special, this year they are almost 1/2 their original price.

Possibly, but Rockwell tools are usually price-fixed with most sales taking place before Christmas and Fathers Day.
As for the Trio, its price dropped possibly due to slow sales. It’s a very neat tool, but is somewhat limited in what it can do. Plus, it takes 3/16″ bits, which are not too common.
The Saw-Max and Versacut also require proprietary blades, but I think that their added versatility make that okay.
