Ansell quietly developed a new line of “do-it-yourself” and construction work gloves. The new ActiveArmr Projex series includes a range of glove designs, from light duty to heavy duty impact, with a couple of other styles mixed in between.
Although described as DIY gloves, it looks like these work gloves may be suitable for professional use as well. We’re not sure, though, because the marketing copy is a bit confusing. Looking at this pair of impact work gloves on Amazon, it says “extreme impact work gloves” and then the description says they’re suitable for demanding tasks such as demo work, roofing, power tool usage, and DIY masonry. DIY masonry?

Still, these Projex gloves look quite interesting. We have used Ansell’s Hyflex semi-disposable professional gloves in the past and like them a lot. The Hyflex are a different type of glove that offers minimal protection, but our experience with them nonetheless gave us a positive impression of Ansell as a company.
When we’re ready to replace our non-DIY-grade Mechanix gloves, we might give Ansell Projex a try. At the very least, they’re definitely attractively priced.

I picked up a pair of these at Menards a few weeks back – they’re overall great gloves for the price, but after a few weeks of pulling them on the stitching between the back panels tore. I like my gloves pretty snug – so be careful when pulling them on. The elastic-only wrist (no velcro) means you’re pulling against a cheesy seam. Menards replaced them at no cost, so that’s a win, too — no problems with the new pair, since I’m now more careful with them.

Thanks for sharing your experience with these gloves! I automatically assumed the cuffs had Velcro closures, but after seeing your comment I took another look. The gloves have Ansell’s “Comfort Wrist Technology for breathability and easy on/off.”
I’m also a snug-glove tugger, even with nitrile and latex gloves since snug gloves allow for greater dexterity than loose/poorly fitting ones.

I’m in need of a good pair of work gloves, but I find myself hesitant to buy them online. What if they don’t fit perfectly? I think gloves are something I’d rather try on for size in person, and not risk the hassle of returning them.

That’s a good point. A couple of the gloves I have were not available at any of my local stores, so I took a risk that the sizing was off and ordered them online. Then again, I purchase most of my clothes and footwear online these days as well. If I think there might be a sizing problem, I go with a retailer with a great return policy. These retailers normally charge the full list price and don’t offer coupons or discounts, but the easy returns are worth it.
