This is going to sound a little crazy, so please listen closely.
I will be holding a tool giftaway today, April 1st, 2015. Entry starts at the time of this posting (9am ET) and ends at 11:59pm ET). It’s not a true giveaway, as the prizes haven’t been defined yet, so I’m calling it a giftaway.
To throw your name into the hat, you’re going to have to tell me which tool you want to win (please try to keep it under $50). And you’re going to have to provide a few extra words telling me why you want that tool.
The tools MUST be sold by Amazon.com, either directly by Amazon, or as a Fulfilled by Amazon item. Why? Because shipping fees stink. Entrants must have addresses in the contiguous USA.
No need to include a link – a description should be good enough. If you’d like, you could also include an ASIN as well, e.g. “B00FX4BWKU,” which refers to a Felo screwdriver set.
If you inists on including a link, trim it down so it looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/Felo-Slotted-Phillips-Ergonic-Screwdriver/dp/B00FX4BWKU/ . All the gobbledigook that comes after that isn’t needed.
Don’t know what you want to win? Then say “Surprise Me!” and make me smile, laugh, or grin with a joke, Haiku poem, or a story about any one tool you would take to a deserted island or Mars. If you are selected as a winner, you’ll receive some new tool as a prize. Maybe it will be a tool someone else asked for, or maybe a tool of my choosing with an extra prize thrown in.
1 winner will be selected at random. If there’s anything left in the budget after that, I’ll pick additional winners from names I recognize from previous weeks’ comments.
Makes sense?

Example Entries:
I would like to win an Empire Level 28620 strap wrench, as its positive locking action might work a lot better than the loose passive lock on my current strap wrench.
Please send me an Irwin PowerSlot cutter (link not necessarily, but included so you know what I’m talking about), which would be a huge upgrade over the standard leverage cutters and separate bolt cutters I’m using now.
Surprise Me! The one tool I would take with me to a deserted island is my flashlight, which has been automagically modified with a solar battery charger and high capacity 1 million cycle rechargeable battery that will last for 30 hours on a single 5-minute charge.
April Fools!
There will actually be 5 winners that are selected at random, not just 1. Everything else is no joke. I really do intend to whip out my credit card and buy some of you new tools.

I would love the Bosch GTL2 Laser Square. Between warped big box store wood and crossed eyes I need all the help I can get finishing my deck…

I would like to win a Wiha 46793 Ball End Screwdriver Set (AISN B0032FOUNI) because ball end drivers can make the job a lot easier when working in the tight quarters found in most fighting robots.

Surprise me! I would like a reliable axe to take care of the Hydra that has taken up residence in my backyard.
John S
Surprise me! As someone expecting his first child, whatever tool you think would best serve being super daddy and super husband would be excellent 🙂

A knife. Just a folding knife. One that looks ridiculous or an assisted opener like Kershaw. I mean, what makes you feel more like a man than a sharp piece of metal in your pocket. And the harder it is to explain why you need the knife to your wife, the more like a man you feel.

Spyderco Sharpmaker. I tend to go easy on pocket knives because I am horrible at sharpening and lack proper equipment. This should solve both those problems.

Surprise me! I recently lost most of my tools (particularly my wrenches) training for a competitive dodge ball tournament!
Jordan
Surprise me! I’ve got most of what I need, but I’m always looking for specialty tools. I’m in the process of paying off school debt so tool collecting has been placed on hold for the time being.

I would like to win a SK stubby ratchet #45174 3/8” drive as my son is turning of age to drive and I am trying to buy him quality tools to work on his car so he is not borrowing and misplacing mine.

I would love to win the Wera Kraftform Plus 160i/168i/6 Insulated Professional Screwdriver Set. After reading everything you have said about Wera, it seems like this set should get any electrical job around the house done safely and for a good price. I’ve had this sitting on my Amazon wishlist for months now. (B00024JWQ2)

I would like anything a prepper should get. I’m starting out as a small time prepper and need the most common basic tool. Zombies are coming and I need something cool to protect myself. I have a milwaukee fuel sawzall but what do I do when the battery dies? Do I die?

Cool! Good luck to you all! I cant think of anything i want or need lol

I would find the Klein Tools 32535 10-Fold 10-in-1 Screwdriver/Nut Driver very handy in my work, because I frequently have to work in confined spaces (and I have a goodly supply of other bits to fit). Have a fun day!
Nick
Surprise me! Love the site btw, new dad of two, first home project. Basement remodel. Something that will help me with drywalling.
J
I love the site. It is easier to avoid buying tools by ogling them here rather than in the store where I might actually buy them.
Surprise me!! I’ve never found a tool that I can’t use. Although I guess a hammer is better than most tools at putting a nail in.
Chris Van Buren
Surprise me! Maybe a book on how to use woodworking tools?! When we are all forced to go off grid wood will be the most readily available resource so it’d be nice to have a leg up on all you other people.
Tom
There are so many things already in my wish list. I really need to buy a router bit set for my new 1/4 inch shank Craftsman Professional trim router. You recommended the MLCS 6077 set, but I have hesitated because of the cost. But I need to get something soon for a shelving project. I’m just being cheap.
Would love a Wera Zyklop 8796 extension. I don’t know why this particular item haunts my dreams, but I would love to play with one finally. I like the idea of the sleeve that you hold while you spin the ratchet.
Finally, for real tool porn, I have been considering a Wera Ratcheting Screwdriver. I just don’t know which one to get. You either have to chose the model with the removable shank (which seems awesome that you could pop it into a driver or drill quickly) or with the storage in the handle (which seems like a great idea). You can’t have both though.
Mike Lisac
Asking which tool is like walking into a candy store and saying, “pick one”. Tools aren’t much good if you can’t see what you’re doing. To dress up my mancave/shop, I have my eye on the Canarm BL14CL Barn Light. Looks great and does the job.

I like the wood handled Felo drivers:
http://www.amazon.com/Felo-07157-22155-Phillips-Screwdrivers/dp/B000XDNSQ2
Would be nice to have a dedicated woodworking set.
If you’re feeling generous, the 12v Bosch Recip saw would be pretty awesome:

I would love to get the Bosch Kids 8 Piece Power Tool Set for my two-year-old. His eyes light up when he gets to pull the trigger on daddy’s drills. It’s time to upgrade his play tools to something that looks and feels a little more real. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O7U4NR0

Cool giveaway idea!
In that price range, I have my eye on the OTC 4673 Sensor Socket Set – 7 Piece:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000F5ECZ4
It’s $49.04 at the moment, but you never know what will happen with Amazon’s pricing engine!

Suprise me!
I have a lot of basic tools your average off the books small town handyman might have, but I’m lacking in most things electrical
I’m also very interested in prepping, lightweight everyday carry, camping, motorcycle maintenance (Zen and the art of,) and replica props.!
And thanks for doing a giveaway! You are a gentleman and a scholar!
herp derpson
Some sort of large, coarse diamond plate for flattening water stones and sharpening really dull stuff.
James Conklin
Surprise me!
i love getting any TOOL for free
especially if it’s milwaukee
having too many tools is not a real thing
Gearing up for spring, who knows what StUart will bring me
maybe a light, anything for the jobsite, or a rYobi airstrike
it always makes me happy when I’m reaDing your website
Jason Abettan
Suprise me!
For a funny story . . .
I was working with my Dad on a project hanging TVs. After he drills the holes for the anchors he starts hammering the anchors in with the back of his Makita XPH07 drill, IE. the battery.
So for his birthday I just got him a bunch of shiny new tools. Every single one of them has the ability to be used as a hammer. A Wera Koloss ratchet, Dewalt Fencing pliers, Stanley Fubar, and a 6pc set of Klein Demolition screwdrivers.
Do you think he got the message?
Roland
I love your website. Thanks for having a fun promotion like this.
I could really use a good work light. I know there are many types out there but my wife is getting sick of me taking one of the lamps out of the living room. So be it stationary or handheld, if I get chosen I’d be happy to give any light you recommend a try. However I do enjoy driving my wife crazy one day at a time so I may continue relocating the living room lamp to the garage regardless.
Thank you!
Matt
Surprise me! I have no idea how I could choose one tool on Amazon. Kid in a candy store.
Brian14
Surprise me! But only with something made in the USA, if possible.
The one tool I would take to a deserted island or mars would be my Leatherman.
(You don’t need to surprise me with one of those since I’ve already got two)
Jimmie
Surprise me. One of the reasons I started following this blog was the “Gee, I didn’t know they made those…I need that” factor.

I’d love a set of Felo Ergonic Square Screwdrivers. My Ergonics are always the driver I reach for first.
Matt
I would love to get a pair of knee pads (I haven’t started researching a good pair yet, I trust your judgement). I want to still have working knees after I start the long journey of replacing the floors and roofs of my family’s cottages.
Tim
Surprise me with a new Ratchet Wrench! I recently broke my cheap Husky ratchet during a brake job on my truck. Luckily, I had grandpa’s old rusty ratchet to finish the job (despite it working for me, rusty tools are not as fun as shiney new ones!). A new, shiney, smoothly operating ratchet would just make my day! Thank you!
adam
Spyderco Sharpmaker. I’m using my knives all the time and only have one of those pocket sharpeners. I’ve heard the spyderco system works really well
Ton
Surprise me with any knipex tool. Tired of having subpar Chinese tools.
chris
Darn you Americans… who wants to ship to a nice guy in Canada?
I’ll return the favour and send you some of our snow!
Matt
stuck plunging crappers or replacing flappers and maybe the shutoff has a slight leak.
Or maybe a lockout or cutting a new knockout because a thermostat needs a slight tweak.
Maybe your fridge defrosts or your earring is lost down a sink who’s pipes make a “P”.
But please do not cry, for your maintenance guy will wrench that poor earring free.
So when thinking of tools, I wish for something cool that could be used almost everyday.
Drivers and drills pay all my bills but suprise me with your give away.
Zachary
I would like a knipex 7 inch pliers wrench so I do not need to bring 10 lbs of wrenches when working on a ladder or make a million trips up and down a ladder for the right size wrench
John
I have always wanted to own a Kreg pocket hole jig. This one is a #1 seller on Amazon, and the price is right for this giveaway: [ASIN] B000J43A7W.
I’m about to start building several rectangular wood frames for my daughter’s silk paintings, and pocket screws seem to be the way to go. I’ve completed many other projects where pocket screws would have vastly improved things — and this tool has been on my wish list for some time.
I’m in Berkeley, CA — we have a really great tool-lending library, but unfortunately they don’t have pocket hole jigs. (By the way, I think tool-lending libraries might be an interesting topic for a future post. I’m curious how common these are and what tools other readers tend to borrow, rather than buy for themselves.
John Blair
I would like a box of screws. That way I can continue my Eeyore like attitude and say, “I won a contest and all I got was screwed!”
Jim Felt
I would love to win a Toolguyd App for the Apple Watch. I’m expecting this, like the anti gravity skateboard in Back to the Future, to be a game changer!
Obviously it will be the envy of all my Android toting friends. And Sears Holdings stake holders.
Or maybe a Leatherman Scotch Tape Dispenser?
Carlos
Would be great to have this great bit set for work as an electronics tech.

Hi Stuart,
Thank you for the initiative. It’s super nice of you.
I have my eyes on the following item: Bondhus 69600 050-3/8″&1.5-10mm ColorGuard Inch/Metric Combo 21 Piece Ball End Hex Key Set – Extra Long. I have a short/non ball-end set and every time I used it I promise myself that I will replace it with something better… But when it comes to tool purchases I always get something that I don’t have and need instead of an upgrade. I guess that’s a smart decision… and you only go for upgrades when you can splurge.
Mike It
I would like to win the folding bolt cutters you featured a few days ago. I’ve been thinking of getting bolt cutters and when I saw them here a few days ago, I knew those were the ones I wanted to get. Happy April Tools Day!
Olympia Tools 39-124 Power Grip Bolt Cutter, 24-Inch
nagiom
New tools? Sign me up. I’m a maintenance guy so I could really use a leather man bit extender and bit set.
Mike aka Fazzman
One tool ive learned recently that I could use around the house is a large 20 inch tongue and groove pliers. It would be a nice addition to the arsenal.
Tyler
I like April Tools Day far better than April Fools Day. Giveaway or not!
When I worked for my dad wiring trailers we had a ratcheting crimper and I really liked it. I moved away, but I still do a lot of automotive wiring projects. I’ve had this Klein Ratcheting Crimper in my Wishlist for ages. Probably one of my first Wishlist items. http://amzn.com/B00788LS0S
I mostly want it for use with the insulated terminals die set (http://amzn.com/B007888BXK ), but I want this particular ratcheting frame because of the availability for other dies that I can use at work (IT – Coax & Fiber) or if I ever need to wire Pin Terminals on an automotive project.
This option isn’t Amazon Fullfilled, but does have free shipping and would save me from having to buy a Coax die set when I buy the insulated terminal die set.
http://amzn.com/B0035Y6XKE
I’d also be game for a surprise ratcheting screwdriver. Your reviews and comments on a few in the past have me intrigued. Thanks for the opportunity Stuart!
Adam T
Surprise me! There’s tools that I want to get but you tend to post tools and things that I haven’t heard of before. So I’d rather get something that I wouldn’t have thought about getting. Thank you.
Dave E
Hey Stuart, first off thanks for a great service. I use my tools daily, and your reviews weigh heavily in my decisions on what to purchase. Now for the contest, surprise me. I remodel old delapidated properties to try help bring our area back to its former glory from 30+ years ago when I was younger. Now here a quick joke that actually happened. A state trooper pulls over a speeding woman driver and asks “You were going 95 miles per hours, what do you have to say for yourself?” She thinks a quick moment flashes a quick smile and says “l got here as fast as I could!”…..true story, didn’t work for me though 🙂
DanG
This is a very wonderful and generous idea of yours specially since you have a child to support. If I should be the lucky winner then I would like the Thread mate that supports threads that have a 5/32″ to 3/4″ capacity so that a can clean up those rusty thread on my Camry’s brakes. The car has 139,000 mile on it and I’m sure those bolts are showing some additional rust and wear on them. Soon afterwards I need to take care of the wife’s car. This tool will greatly minimize my hardships, Thanks so much for the wonderful gesture.
MattP
P.s. I should mention – thank you for the great site!
Ryan klupt
I could use the Milwaukee fastback knife
Steven
If you got me a small tool box /tool roll for my truck it would work a lot better than the Amazon box they’re in now.
mac
Cool idea.
Let me try to take it a step further – surprise me, and I’ll either match it or compliment it, and pay it forward. Maybe to a worthy cause (I’m thinking Goodwill, Re-Store, Habitat for Humanity, etc.), but heck, you chose!
BikerDad
If I’m ever stuck on a deserted island, (not desert island, ’cause they don’t have trees), I’d like to have one of these with me.
Council Tool Velvicut 2lb Premium Hudson Bay Axe with Sheath
However, since I’m far more likely to be equipped like Tom Hanks’s character in “Castaway” than I am to be equipped like his character in “Joe vs. the Volcano”, I’d be a fool to turn down this puppy instead:
Council Tool 1 3/4 Lb Hudson Bay Axe w/ Protective Sheath
The difference? 1/4 lb of steel, different grade of steel, quartersawn handle stock rather than “whatever” stock. Oh, and $70. Both are American made, very flexible wilderness axes, either of which I’d be happy to have. (Get from H.J. Epstein via Amazon. Epstein’s is DA BOMB!!!!)
So please, I’m axing you, help me out here.
Grady
I really could use the Kreg HD starter kit #KJHD. I use 2X construction on most of my projects. Half lap joints are great but are time consuming., biscuit joints are great but requires a lot of large clamps don’t have those either. I’ve used the smaller Kreg Jig jr on smaller projects and really love it . I just need something with more heft. Not really accustomed to asking for things like this. I just do the best with what I’ve got and wait until I can afford it.
Really enjoy Toolguyd.
Thank you.
Josh B.
How about a sure shot reusable sprayer. I’ve been using a lot of brake cleaner lately and this would be more economical and better for the environment in the long run.
Adabhael
What a generous idea (and clever rhyme) Stuart. Please send me a Knipex Pliers wrench. It is only thanks to you that I know such a nifty thing exists, and I think it would be a versatile addition to my portable kit.
Damon Eggling
I would like to win the bolt cutters that you featured a week or so ago. Your write up convinced me of their utility and I don’t own bolt cutters at this time. Here is the item name:
Olympia Tools 39-118 Power Grip Bolt Cutter, 18-Inch
Thanks and Happy April Tools Day!
Stan
This is very nice of you to do this Stuart.
All I’d like is a 100% made in the United States of America Gyrojaw. As of April 1st 2015, this is currently priced at $19.49. Here is the link. http://www.amazon.com/Gyrojaw-GYROJAW/dp/B005D6GS6G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427908423&sr=8-1&keywords=Gyrojaw

I would like a Husky 20 in. Pro Tool Bag w/ Pull Out Tray, Model #88582N13. I’m retired and a full-time DIY’er as my means of harmony with life (and to stay fed and clothed by my wife)! I’m in need of a more effective way of moving my tools around outside/inside rather than the 5 gal bucket I’m using. Wife asked me to pick out a bag, but this was more than she was willing to fund no matter my childish pleas. …Figures, she’s an accountant (seriously).
Always look forward to your daily news.
Eric
Surprise me with anything my wife wouldn’t approve of me buying for myself but that would be awesome to have!
Joaquim M.
The bolt cutters that appeared on Toolguyd: Olympia Tools 39-124 Power Grip Bolt Cutter, 24-Inch, these would come in handy for cutting a sorts of things on the job.

Happy April Tool’s Day!
I’d love a pair of those Wiha folding rulers you reviewed a while back.
Dima
A tactical pen. I dont know why but I want one.
Jerry
I’m getting set up as a volunteer firefighter, and one thing that would be nice to have would be a Nite Ize Pock-It XL. I would be able to hold a multi-tool, small flashlight, and a few other small go-to tools, all in an easy to grab kit that would take only a moment to attach to my belt.
I already have the multi tool, but am still looking for a good, durable compact LED flashlight, and some sort of wire cutter that would fit in the Pock-It. I live in a rural area, and will likely need to let down or cut barbed wire femces to get where we need to.
Jerry
Either something like that, or a pair of the mid sized Channellock NutBuster pliers. I used a pair at a buddy’s place, and was very impressed by them. Chew the heck out of the nut, but broke loose a rusted, rounded nut that nothing else we had could budge.
nmk_61802
Would love to have a Sunleaves Digital 4-way Soil Meter to attempt to get the dead spots in my yard figured out. My dog would be eternally grateful if he could go out unattended.

Surprise Me! Between work, study and 4 little kids…this beat up dad could use a little cheering up!
Bob B.
I’m a simple man. Surprise me. Preferably with a Finger Ratchet and Bit Driver, 1/4 Drive. Mine will not stay put!
Seb
I will be making this entry but if i do win anything i ll give it away since i m not in the US and dont qualify anyway.
If i were to win i would love to get a pair of Engineer PZ-58 Screw Pliers GT as those would allow me to be kinder to some of my idiot coworkers that still after me having complained numerous time insist on using freaking Philips bits on Pozidriv screws and have no idea what the limit clutch on a cordless driver is used for……… long story short i m fed up of having to drill out stripped screws…….
please pretty please 🙂

Surprise me…because I have no idea what I need to start building a Martian colony.

Very generous, thanks! I would like: Collins Miter Spring Pliers and 4 Miter Clamps Kit. I’m replacing all the window casings in my house.

A Big Gator Tools’ drill guide in fractional would be awesome, ever since I saw the review its been on my wishlist. It looks like the next best thing to having an actual drill press. Cheers!

Lately, I’ve been lusting after a pair of Knipex Cobras. Mainly I’m tired of using pliers with worn out teeth. Those super-hard Cobra teeth should last me a good long while.
If I was stranded on a deserted island, I think I would forego all tools in favor of a supermodel. She might not be able to help me fix anything, but she would look a lot better in the meantime.

I’ll put my name in the hat for a Williams 32007 sliding T handle. My dad said he used T handles growing up. He’s gone now and so are many of his tools, but I would like to try one.

I am in need of a carpenters square. My 80 year old neighbor is going to show me how to cut a new stair stringer to replace our existing one, and he tells me all we need is a good carpenters square to calculate and lay out the stringer. We cannot use the old one, since the rise of the steps do not meet code. I am sure a ice cold 12 pack will also be on my list of supplies.

I would like the Bosch 12v handheld vacuum. It is always nice to add to a tool set that all use the same battery. The 3 reviews on amazon are mixed though, so perhaps this thing sucks…or doesn’t? Bad pun aside, I’d like to give it a try. Thanks for the giftaway!

Surprise me! But whatever you do, please don’t send me 1) a book on reverse psychology, or 2) a set of precision screwdrivers. I’ve inadvertently used, to my dismay, reverse psychology on my girlfriend, whose camera is still in at least 35 pieces on my workbench because my cheapo precision screwdrivers from a discount tool store gave out half-way through my attempted repair. “I don’t think I can fix this, sweetie, really, I don’t.” “Of course you can,” she says, “you can fix anything!”

Thanks for having a great site.
I’ve been fascinated with Japanese furniture making lately, specifically glueless and screwless joint but don’t have much in the the way of wood working tools to start trying it. So maybe a plane or set of chisels. But I would be able to make use of a pocket hole or dowel kit kit as well.

and then, after I have sex with her the second time, I am usually hot and sweaty.”
Later, after examining the man’s elderly wife, the doctor said : ” Everything appears to be fine.
Do you have any medical concerns that you would like to discuss with me ? ”
She replied that she had no questions or concerns.
The doctor then said to her : ” Your husband had an unusual concern. He claims that he is
usually cold and chilly after having sex with you the first time, and then hot and sweaty after
the second time. Do you know why ? ”
” Oh that crazy old fart,” she replied.
” That’s because the first time is usually in January and the second time is in August.”

Surprise me Stu, even if its nothing…..just keep up the great site…..that’s all.

I would like a 6 PCs wera insulated VDE screwdriver set
For years I have been suffered with electrical problems on the house and need to rewire half of the electrical panel since its too old an the electrician stayed is not safe being the type of wire covered with some fabric type insulation and no junktion boxes anywhere…..
The good part is the other half is new from when I added 2 rooms and rewire that side of the house
Good luck to everyone 🙂

I’ve been eyeing the Channellock 360cb welding pliers with code blue grips. I’m trying to amass some welding tools before I buy a mig welder, and I’ve been wanting to feel the fancy grips.

I want a Estwing E3-WC chipping hammer! A nice USA Estwing hammer would work so much better for my slag removal!
Joe
Surprise me.
Old people always poke me at weddings and say, “You’re next,” so I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

I would love either a small quality chisel set or the higher quality Milwaukee right angle drill adapter. Starting to set more doors at work and either would be great to get a more professional result
Scott Fillmore
I like the No-Spill Gas Cans. Their name says it all!

A blonde was playing Trivial Pursuit one night. It was her turn. She rolled the dice and she landed on Science & Nature. Her question was, ‘If you are in a vacuum and someone calls your name, can you hear it?’ She thought for a time and then asked, ‘Is it on or off?’
SURPRISE ME!

First thanks for a great site. Second thanks for this promotion, quite possibly the coolest idea ever. Thirdly Fluke 1AC-A1-II VoltAlert Non-Contact Voltage Tester
Im a safety equipment tech in the fracking industry. Some of the installs are questionable at best and I keep meaning to grab one of these but always forget.
carl edwards
I would love a knipex 10in pliers wrench. I am an electrician by trade and often find myself using channellocks for anything and everything so the plier wrench would deffinatly keep me from marring up things
NCD
I need to do some bath renovations and the Knipex pliers wrench would be a great asset. Thank you for this opportunity.
Michael
Thank you for everything you do. I hope that someone who needs tools worse than I do wins one
Travis
A non contact voltage detector could come in handy for some upcoming projects. Thanks for the great website!

My daughter moved out!
Please send a
Stanley 94-248 65-Piece Homeowner’s Tool Kit
so I can get my tools back …..
Thanks!
Jay k.
I love keychains and tools… i remeber a small little gizmo that held bits that you said had little to no play in them. Thats perfect for mars because we have no idea how the difference in gravity would effect our efficiency… lol
Mick
I would love to have an 8″ x1x1 3x 46 grit Norton grinding wheel….oh, and a new back but that’s another story.
Jason. W
I don’t have a tool in mind. But something that I could smash, rip, pry, and destroy things with are always good. I do demo frequently. My co-workee bought me a “beast mode” sticker for my hard hat.
I even bought shin pads to wear on my arms while doing plaster and lathe demo.
I present to you Hulks poem
Roses red
Violets blue
I smash you!!

Surprise Me!
My toolbox is empty, oh what shall I do?
Browse Toolguyd.com, as most homeowners anew
Till I spot a contest, rare on the first
A random tool you say?
So I write couple lines with a verse
Patiently I wait, for win I may

Working on my car,
The tool I would adore most:
a Wera Ratchet
(Love the site! Thanks so much!)
Ken
Well, I’ll give a shot. A set of new bits from Garrett Wade for my inherited Yankee Push Drill. Good luck to all.
Blake Paine
The biggest impact on my shop would be a nice P-Touch label maker. Spend my entire day off today building new shelving and reorganizing, now I’d love to up my label game to match. Amazon has a nice deal on the PT-1880w.
Jim Felt
Blake. Costco always has a screaming deal on Brother P Touch label makers. And include like 2 full size tape cartridges as well making the deal amazing.

I could really use a dial indicator with magnetic base. I let a friend ride my dirtbike and ended up with some broken spokes. The dial indicator would be a great help when replacing the spokes and getting the wheel to run true again.
Harry
I would like a New Gearwrench 81015 1/4 drive locking flex head ratchet to see how it compares to its Armstrong relative.
It would be cruel though if this ended up being an April Fools gag though after all of us sat on Stuey’s lap as if he was Santa Claus asking for goodies.
Dan Oneufer
I would like Wiha 26193 Slotted and Phillips Screwdriver Set with Soft PicoFinish Handle, 8-Piece. Having JUST rounded off a Craftsman precision driver and the stubborn phillips screw simultaneously, I’m ready for better quality.
Ben
I would like a checkpoint 300 level. One because my old one has a broken bubble and two because they are pretty awesome levels.
NERemodeling
Wow!! What an idea.. you da man 🙂
Something I have always eyed but never pulled the trigger is something to check the size and pitch of bolts and nuts.. a ” nut and bolt thread checker” is what I suppose they would be called! Haha. they usually come strung on a wire and are engraved with which size they are.. whatever will do the job I’m cool with! Thanks man and good luck to all
Jeff
I’d like to win, too! I’ve been looking at getting a clamping miter box like the Stanley 20-800 (ASIN: B00005QVQW). I have a 4-year old son, and I’m trying to teach him about fixing rather than throwing away, and how hand-made means so much more than store-bought. But what I’d really like to teach him is that his old man is capable of hand-sawing a friggin’ straight line every once in a while! 8^)
Thanks for the chance, and thanks for the great site!
Nate
I would really like a Wixey WR300 digital angle gauge – I don’t have the budget for a better table saw or drill press, but I belive this would allow me to set precise angles on both, as well as prove useful for various home projects.
Christopher Cordes
I would like to win a pair of VamPLIERS cause I need some bite to remove worn out screws.
Oscar
If I win could I get a tape measure it really doesn’t matter which brand to me I would just like it to be extremely durable my old one fell from like 10 ft and broke open. I now use a small piece I cut from the whole roll to measure here and there:/
Hank
I wouldn’t refuse a Husqvarna carpenter’s axe. Teaching an upcoming timber framing class using only hand tools and need enough tools to go around.
Raffi
Thank you for the great site and the opportunity. I would love to win a Maglite 3 d- cell and 2-aa incandescent flashlight pack. ASIN # is B00112TNTU. I would love to give it to my brother, who recently got his own apartment and doesn’t own a single flashlight. Thank you again for the opportunity and happy April Tools Day.
Drew
I could really use one of those fancy stud finders with the line of LEDs.
In the past, I mounted a heavy LCD TV and I hit the edges of the studs which caused the weight of the tv to damage the drywall. It was an expensive mistake.
Fast forward to today and now I’m a homeowner with loads of ‘honey-do’ projects.

Milwaukee Knuckle Pivot Adpater
We have been removing a lot of screws lately. The ones near the top and bottom of the removal project and are a pain to take out. This will give the right angle to pull out with ease

A Proto 1/2DR, 5/8″ slotted screwdriver socket would be awesome!

My bathroom sink is broke and my girlfriend thinks its weird that I have to use a bucket to wash my hands. If I could get the Knipex 8603180 7-Inch Pliers Wrench, I’d be able to fix my sink!

I think I’m too late, but I’m going to try any way … just in case. I’ve built up a pretty amazing tool collection for a person with no real shop, work or storage space as well as a minimal at best skill level. And, today, as an early birthday present, I got a pretty kick ass shiny new tool box to store it all in. One thing I don’t have, though, and really really need (which, for anyone who has seen my “work” would agree with) is a proper, quality (and accurate) square. So, since patience is apparently out of stock at every tool retailer on the planet … perhaps the Toolguyd Powers That Be might want to help make it a slightly less frustrating birthday, and project season by splurging on this little package:

I know the household CEO would appreciate the significant decrease in angered vulgarity.

I am a finish carpenter that is having trouble coping. A bare tool Dewalt 20v jig saw or multi-tool would really help me to cope with stress at the work place.
Ed M.
A digital protractor would be handy!

Have the winners been selected/ announced? I’ve got no more nails left to bite!!
Stuart
Not yet, I hope to do this today. It’s not a quick process, and so I hold off until I have more time. Good news is that the budget got bumped up and so there will be an extra winner or two.
Stan
Are you going to make a announcement in another article or in this one?
Stuart
Yes. =)
Stan
Awesome Stuart, thank you.
