Husky Hand Tool Deals Home Depot Black Friday 2020

Right now, there are a ton of Husky hand tool deals over at Home Depot, as part of their Black Friday 2020 sale.

As discussed in an earlier post, ToolGuyd is in a paid partnership with Husky Tools and Home Depot.

To help share news about the ongoing Husky tool promos, I skipped my way to Home Depot with a shiny new gift card to spend. I bought a couple of things for review, and some tools for personal use as well.

Husky Hand Tool Deals

Do you know what I always like about Home Depot’s Husky Black Friday tool deals? There is always a good deal I can personally take advantage of.

I could tell you that there’s something for everyone, that the bargains are unbeatable, and that you should absolutely check out Husky’s current tool promos even if you usually favor a different brand. And, all that would be true.

It took me some time, but I narrowed down a list of the 5 BEST Husky hand tool deals for the 2020 Black Friday and holiday shopping season.

Don’t worry, I also have a long list of their other current promotions at the end of the post.

Husky 270pc Mechanics Tool Set Home Depot Black Friday 2020 Deal

This Husky 270pc mechanics tool sets looks to be one of the biggest Husky mechanics tool bargains I have come across so far.

Husky 270pc Mechanics Tool Set Home Depot Black Friday 2020 Deal Contents

It comes with 1/4″, 3/8″, and 1/2″ drive ratchets, 148 sockets, 14 wrenches, and 105 accessories.

Look – I’m a “I’ll piece together my own kit kind of person.” But most people aren’t. A lot of DIYers start out not knowing exactly what tools they need, how big of a mechanics set they want, or which accessories they will end up using post.

With this set, you don’t need to think about much – you get a whole lot of bang for your buck. It’s a fantastic springboard for some, and the only set others will ever need.

If this set doesn’t work out well for you, what other direction would you go in?

Husky Thin Wall Impact Sockets

Husky sent over a 10pc set of these 3/8″ drive thin wall deep impact sockets for review purposes recently, and while I haven’t been able to put them through the paces just yet, they seem quite nicely made and priced very well.

The 10pc SAE and 10pc metric socket sets are priced at $25 each, and are said to be on sale from $30. Each set comes with 10 sockets, a storage rail, and 1/4″ hex to 3/8″ adapter.

$25 x 2 = $50. That’s not bad for a 20pc set of deep impact sockets.

But wait, Home Depot and Husky have this 20pc combined set on sale for $38? That seems to be an exceptionally good value!

Husky Precision Screwdriver Set Home Depot Black Friday 2020

I have plenty of precision screwdrivers, duplicates even. Technician screwdrivers, mini hex, Phillips, slotted, Torx, you name it!

Even so, I still come across smaller fastener styles and sizes that my regular precision screwdrivers just don’t cover.

For example, I had to replace the plastic strip that covers the hinge of my laptop, and I needed 2 specialty screwdriver tip sizes. Or was it three? My typical precision screwdrivers couldn’t help me.

This Husky 25pc precision screwdriver set covers sizes that I use regularly and quite a few that I haven’t used and might never. But, should the time come when I need an odd size, this one might just get me out of a bind.

And of course, if you don’t have any precision screwdrivers, that’s another reason to consider this set.

I took a close look at it, and just couldn’t say no to its $9.88 price tag.

Husky Electrical Pliers and Wire Stripper Home Depot Black Friday 2020

I recently posted about a Home Depot deal on Milwaukee electrical pliers, and a couple of people wrote in, asking about the lower priced Husky 6-in-1 electrical pliers and how it compared.

The closer I looked at these pliers, the harder it was to pass them up. (I bought a pair – ask away with any questions!)

Husky’s electrical pliers features long nose gripping jaws, a reaming head for deburring conduit, wire stripping holes, a wire cutter, machine screw cutter, and crimping jaws.

The only downside – once these sell out, they might be gone for good. I bought a set of Husky insulated screwdrivers 4 years ago, and have never seen them sold since then.

There is such strong interest in these Husky pliers that I would think they’ll be restocked after the holiday season. But if not, you might miss out if you hesitate.

Husky Impact Socket Adapters Hex Shank Home Depot Black Friday 2020 Tool Deals

Do you remember how I said there’s always something for everyone? For me, this set of Husky 1/4″ hex drive socket adapters was simply too good to pass up.

I have a couple of different impact wrenches (mainly test and review samples), and a smattering of impact sockets in different sizes and drive styles.

For smaller projects, I often don’t want to have to think about the tools I’m using, and so I’ll reach for my trusty personal-use impact driver and track down a fitting impact socket.

OR, I might want to use a shallow socket with a cordless screwdriver. Either I don’t have the proper size nutdriver accessory at the ready, or I have one but decide it’s not a good fit for the job.

One problem comes up, more often than it should – I’ll have a socket and I’ll have an adapter, but not ones that fit together. If I have a 1/2″ socket in my hand, I’ll only be able to find a 3/8″ adapter. Or if I have a 3/8″ socket, I might find 1/4″ and 1/2″ adapters.

I can’t tell you why, but my chrome non-impact-rated tools and accessories are very well organized. But my impact tools and adapters? I have bits and pieces, as I haven’t built a proper kit for myself yet.

Even when I’m using chrome hand sockets, I’ll usually need an impact-rated size adapter.

I’m tired of always trying to find the right adapter.

When I came across this Husky adapter set, I just knew it would be *perfect* for my needs. It comes with short and long impact socket adapters in 1/4″, 3/8″, and 1/2″ drive sizes. The 1/4″ hex shanks fit impact drivers, cordless screwdrivers, and drill/drivers.

The price was also too good to pass up! $10? Take my money! Technically I was spending Home Depot’s money, since they handed me a gift card to help with my research efforts for this post, but still. Great deal.

Husky Cordless Ratchet

I’ve always been curious about this small Husky 12V rechargeable ratchet. Seems compact and surprisingly affordable.

Husky Cordless Ratchet: $60

Husky’s 28pc wrench set looked to be a great price. I got these for review purposes, and they will tentatively make it into either a portable tool set or a tool box my kids will be allowed to access.

Do you have to return the impact sockets? I’d be interested in torture testing of the markings – do they come off? Are they laser etched? Indented?

    Reply
    • Stuart

      Nov 25, 2020

Both – they’re dual marked with physical and lasered size markings.

I’d like to order that mechanic tool set to keep in my truck. The case is about worn out on my 20 year old mechanic set that I keep in there. However, I checked this morning and again just now and was unable to order this online. I guess it’s an in-person door buster deal?

I think there could be a temporary hold on online ordering for that SKU to ensure there are still some in stock for Black Friday.

And if so, I’d say check back tonight or tomorrow (Thanksgiving) morning and then on Friday if necessary.

It was available for online ordering last night, and usually when ship to home and in-store pickup are disabled, it’s a temporary measure.

The page says “buy in store” for me too right now.

That is typical HD practice for BF specials and some other “special “ sales events. No online ordering and ship to home, no online ordering for in store pickup, … when it is BF, Ryobi days, etc. They set batches of SKUs to limited stock, check store.
I have struggled with that for years as I’m usually on the road this time of year and can’t physically go to my store when I’m on the other side of the country.

I’ve been on the fence about a rechargeable ratchet for a while. I wouldn’t use it frequently enough to warrant getting something like the M12 at ~$129. But for $60, I think it would be pretty handy to keep in the garage. The fact that it is a non-removable battery doesn’t bother me in the slightest, either.

Are you worried that, with infrequent use, it might be discharged when you reach for it? That seems to bite me too often.

        Nov 25, 2020

Not really. Lithium is usually good to sit months without discharge. It does depend on the device, this ratchet may very well discharge, I don’t know. But it is the sorta thing I would probably keep plugged in, unplug when I use it, then plug it back in.

Will it last me 20 years? Probably not. But for $60 it might be worth it to me, personally. It is definitely not for everyone.

That’s definitely the appeal. I bought one to see how useful it was in regard to size to power.

There is sometimes a Milwaukee M12 ratchet bundle for $99, but I haven’t seen that this year.

Something I noticed a month or two ago when I was considering the Husky ratchet is that it actually says you CAN use it for manual tightening.

That was a question I posed about the M12 awhile back and the answer for Milwaukee was: officially no you shouldn’t, but users said you can so long as you don’t get carried away.

The Husky says you can up to like 150ft/lbs if my memory serves – which is more than I imagine normal humans would exert on a ratchet that size.

I thought I would highlight that because the Husky didn’t get a lot of love last time you posted about it – not necessarily from owners but just from people upset about the built-in battery.

Experience has taught me that when you buy a rechargeable tool, light, etc, for a ‘good” price and the battery is included or even integral to the unit, you get a cheap-quality item w a cheap battery. Something’s got to give to get it to that price point.

GOOD LUCK finding a replacement battery in a year or two.

Then when you can’t find the battery (if you could, at that point, you’d be up and probably over the price of the GOOD one you should have bought earlier)–anyway, when you can’t find the battery, you pitch the whole thing and buy a GOOD quality bare tool and use a GOOD quality battery you’ve already got. And it’s a far superior tool to boot.

Then you wonder why you ever bought that cheap piece of crap to begin with…..

I have had some integrated-battery tools and with great experiences. I wish Dremel re-released their 7V Stylus and screwdriver tools.

This Husky ratchet has been out for a while now, with this being the 3rd season it’s being promoted.

Tools with integrated batteries aren’t as user-friendly as those that come with removable batteries. But removable batteries doesn’t guarantee a great experience.

I lost the charger for an tool truck brand of rechargeable flashlight, and none of the barrel-end chargers or universal charging systems ever worked with the tool.

          Built-in charging has its downsides.

But here, it’s a $60 tool. How much more do you have to spend to get a better tool with separate charger and user-replaceable battery?

If that Milwaukee M12 deal returned, its $99 price tag would be ~67% greater than what this Husky set costs.

Some people might eventually upgrade from this to a more premium and pricier tool. For others, this is ALL the cordless ratchet they’ll need.

Something like this is lower priced because the company doesn’t have to design and manufacture a separate charger or battery system.

Sure, built-in batteries aren’t ideal for everyone or all circumstances. But, if someone is willing to spend say $75 or less, what would you tell them? Double your budget or get nothing?

I agree with a lot of what you say. But too often there’s a lot of “nah, that’s a bad idea” commentary, but alternate recommendations other than “spend more.”

This is a valid option for users who want a simpler and affordably priced powered ratchet.

Here’s what I’d tell them: if that’s your budget, spend it on a nice flex-head ratchet that will last 2 lifetimes instead of 2 years.

In response to your comment about the M12 ratchet going for $99 occasionally:

HD special buy of the day today (26Nov) has the Milwaukee 2401-21R kit for $99, which is the M12 ratchet and M12 screwdriver, battery, and charger.

I’ve had that ratchet for a few years now and I actually love it. It might not get use every weak or even month but it’s performed quite well with a good bit of use. It’s certainly not a pro tool but it’s got decent torque and ok speed. You can snug the fasteners tight by using it like a regular ratchet. And it holds a charge for as long as I have ever left it sitting. I really have no complaints about it except that it only comes with an ac charger and it would be very handy to have a dc car type charger as well.

A good one to watch is the Husky Accessory Set (19-Piece). Currently it’s $25, but I picked one up for $15 last year after the holidays. It seemed like it was overlooked at all the stores I went to as there were plenty on the shelves.

You can never have too many extensions, or adapters because I can never find the right one when I need it. It’s nice to have this tray with all of them in my socket drawer.

The wobble extensions have gotten me out of a few jams and you can push them in all the way and use them like regular extensions.

That set of six Husky 1/4″ hex drive impact socket adapters that you got first came out last year in the 2019 gift center (they are back again for 2020)

Joining them this year is an additional, brand new set of 10″ long 1/4″ hex drive impact socket adapters in all three sizes (also $9.88)

Both sets are in the same display box/placard.

The 5-row Mechanics Time Savers organizers are the best in my opinion (I own three of these). Bluepoint (Snap-On) sold the exact ones years ago with their logo on it.

They are once again sold out everywhere due to covid supply chain issues but I got my last one from here (Bowers Tool) over the summer (Amazon sells them too when stock is available):

I have the Wiha version of that precision screwdriver kit. It stays in my home/work bag so it’s always handy and has in fact come in quite handy at both locations. My only gripe is that the handle needs a bit more grip. On really tight screws it wants to twist in my hand. Knurling would help dramatically.
