Wow, 99 bucks for a brushless Bosch Flexiclick kit?? If I didn’t already have one, I’d be all over that deal like hair on a gorilla.

I have the PS22, which I’m not sure they make anymore, but always wanted the FlexClick. At $99 I pulled the trigger and will try to sell the PS22, which is a super awesome tool for any home owner now that drill bits can be purchased with the hex end.

Also grabbed the 12v Isolating multi-tool. I know it’s not the best, but as a DIYer, it will work plenty well. They are on sale for $49 so it was a no brainer on this as well. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075LXVL19/

I got excited to see SK active again. But looking at the items, they’re clearly new designs, and show as manufactured by Great Star in China. Sooo, no thanks.

Maybe Stuart can do some digging and get an update from SK.
My own google digging found an article from Feb this year stating that they were moving shop vac production (or at least major component manufacturer) overseas but they were planning on keeping some SK tool manufacture in Williamsport PA. It looks like they are doing some rebranded Greatstar tools in China which is what is on Amazon but some of the old round head ratchets etc are being made in PA.
Can’t find a source other then some forum posts but it seems like they are planning two tool lines one being USA made and one being China made which I’ll be honest the business side of me thinks is probably the best path forward.

I’m still working to learn more.

SK has a lot of wheels moving behind the scenes, and I haven’t been able to connect with a product manager yet.

That said, I think your assessment is right. The new selection that’s being discounted and promoted for Prime Day are imported, and I recently saw coverage about USA-made tools in a video taken at a vendor showing.

That seems to be a solid strategy. Personally, I still think my prediction/theory will come true – https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/theory-lowes-will-partner-with-sk-tools/%3C/a%3E .

I’m seeing Beaver Tools has some Fein and Festool on sale, ~10% off or so. Mainly the cordless sanders + cross cut saw.

I can shop on Amazon for about a minute before getting fatigued.

I just searched for a torx socket set. After some scrolling, I start to notice the same 13pc set in a blue case, but with different alphabet soup brand names. Some are Prime Big Deal, some not.

The “Overall Pick” is by PSTEL. It pops up several times as I scroll through. It appeared as both “promoted”, “overall pick”, as well as both of those tags together. It’s not the lowest price of all these identical items, BTW (that one isn’t even a Prime Big Deal).

Yeah Amazon has been getting a bit tiring to shop lately. I still buy some stuff there but it’s less than it used to be. If I’m getting a charging cord yep probably Amazon. Just about everything else only if it’s a good deal. They do seem to regularly have good prices on Metabo HPT and Dewalt Tstak so I get those too.
Overload of random brands and pricing that is usually pretty close to in line with brick and mortor stores is eroding my need to shop there.

Amazon is the new marketplace for the six-letter ALL-CAPS generic brands of dubious quality. Sometimes it’s 5 letters!

I can shop on Amazon for about a minute before getting fatigued.

Yep. That’s a big part of why I still put the effort into sorting out the deals I feel are worth looking at.

I’ve also found that I can only do it if I pull an all-nighter. If I wake up early, I can’t muster the patience. The same is true for both Prime Days (at least the first day), Black Friday, and Cyber Monday.

It has been futile to talk to Amazon about this. Why are the tool deal pages so cluttered with stuff none of us are interested in buying? “The vendor pays for the spot.”

Simpler than that. The answer to any question that begins with “why does Amazon…” is that it makes them money.

Typical of some of my Amazon experiences – I clicked on Stuart’s link for the Bosch 5pc. Countersink drill bit set. Amazon says 32% off – priced at $13.50 with “free shipping”. At ToolUp it is $11.95 but you don’t get free shipping without spending $199. So the Amazon price is good – but not spectacular. I may still buy a few as stocking stuffers.

Zoro has it for $30.19, and you have to order in multiples of 5.

It seems that the typical price is $15 or so. Amazon says their regular price is $16.29.

Most deals are definitely quite a bit lower than their regular prices, but the percent-off value is indeed often exaggerated.

A lot of “Prime Day” deals have also been going for weeks now. I bought a laser cutter a few days ago, and it’s now newly “On Sale” when all they did was remove the instant coupon that’d been there for at least a month.

        Depends on the product.

I bought a filament dryer last Prime Day, after watching it for a week or two. Added it back to my cart and it went back to full price until Prime Day deals kicked off again this morning.

In July, certain tools went on sale a few days ahead of Prime Day, were described as Prime Day deals, and then went back to full price a week or two later.

Promotions tend to be very brand and product specific.

The entry priced consumer laser cutter market is extremely competitive, and so what you’re describing doesn’t surprise me.

Make sure you vent the fumes outside. I receive an offer for a laser cutter/engraver nearly every week, with most brands touting their open-air lasers without a single mention about proper operational safety. You don’t want to breath in vaporized plastic, wood glue, or other such materials.

Oh definitely, smoke/fume mitigation is so often missing from hobby fabrication tools (3d printers, laser, etc). I’ve got a nice quiet squirrel-cage blower ready for outside venting. Also putting together a glass and metal enclosure for fire risks.

Amazon has some of the “best” dynamic pricing algorithms. Based on my identity, location, and time of day, Amazon will give you an “optimized” price on the same item. That’s not on everything, but it’s exhausting trying to figure out what they are trying to charge and if it’s a good deal. If it’s not too much additional time or effort, I try to go somewhere where pricing is more transparent.

I am also in an area where Amazon Fresh stores are opening everywhere. They’re not bad stores, but I have really mixed feelings about Amazon’s growing market penetration and competitive practices. Luckily, we also have a lot of Trader Joe’s, Aldi, and Lidl here. Those German discount grocery stores are truly formidable competitors.

Once again, I appreciate the Amazon Prime Day roundup.

Without these I might just ignore it completely – as others have mentioned, it’s a time sucking chore to root through the 95% crap to find the 5% deal nuggets.

The discounts on Tekton stuff seem legit. Tekton does a good job of ensuring price discipline somehow, so these discounts seem as good as it gets.

It seems that Amazon’s inventory sold out and what you’re seeing are 3rd party listings.

There’s a chance it’ll be restocked, but I’m not optimistic.

Some of the Bosch deals also sold out already.
