Beta Tools Folding Workbench

I came across this new Beta Tools folding workbench, and one thought came to mind – wow, that looks sturdy.

The Beta folding workbench, model C56PL O, weighs 18.5 kg (~40.7 lbs), and can support up to 200 kg (441 lbs) of static load.

The work top measures 800 x 500 mm, and is made of galvanized sheet iron on one side, and the other side is protected with an oil and gasoline-resistant rubber cover.

Beta Tools Folding Workbench Opening Steps

The Beta folding workbench is said to be lightweight, compact, and easy to carry. When it’s folded up for storage, two handles come together for easier carrying.

Lastly, the legs have non-slip rubber feet.

USA Price: TBA
EU Price: £199 (~$259 USD)

I’d expect to see the new workbench available at Zoro Tools, which has recently started carrying Beta Tool products in the USA.

There’s only one color option so far – Beta orange.

Finally, here’s a quick video to show you how it works:

Discussion

The new Beta folding workbench looks sturdy, based on the design, and I would be very surprised if it wasn’t.

There are quite a few folding workbenches out there. With this one, the distinction seems to be the dual-surface worktop – metal one side, and rubber matting on the other.

Because of the design, it carries vertically, and doesn’t look to have a very portable or comfortable geometry. This is probably a “bring it out when you need it” workshop table than the type you might toss into a work truck. Maybe it could find a home in a work van, for short-distance travel, but there are certainly more portable options for such needs.

Keep in mind, Beta Tools is focused on mechanics tools and the such. Personally, I think that the design seems to match their target audience perfectly.

We don’t yet know how much this will sell for here, but Beta tools and storage products don’t come cheap, although they’re usually more affordable than other pro-oriented brands.

IF or when the Beta folding workbench does launch in the USA, it will likely be priced between $200 and $300, judging from the £199 pricing in the UK.

If its available through Zoro, wait for a good coupon and then it might be worth it.

It seems like someone makes this complaint every time there’s a new tool post on Toolguyd.

I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you on this one specifically (well, maybe I am, but I don’t have serious conviction behind my position). I think it’s worth bearing in mind though that the price is MSRP (retail might be lower), it’s from a smaller tool company, it appears to be sturdier and maybe bigger than the competition and it looks to be designed for a particular audience.

It’s an expensive workbench, but maybe not way out of line.

It does look sturdy. But I wish that the tabletop covered the tops of the legs, so there was a free edge all around. That would allow you to set them in a row without gaps.

I also wish the sliding tops of the x-braces could be tightened in place, perhaps with hand knobs. As it is, it might be a bit wobbly, depending on how closely the sliding bolt fits in that slot.

And the Bora Centipede seems to be a smarter design. Their CTC6 is about the same size, and can support 2500 pounds. It’s probably lighter too. True, it isn’t an all-in-one design, since the table top comes separately. But it’s cheaper, even with the table top. And there are clever clamps and hooks you can add. But I haven’t used it yet.

Clever. Probably a bit small and short for my needs.

The first thing that came to mind for me is this would be a decent folding/portable base for a welding table for those that only weld once and awhile. I can’t imagine it would be difficult to adapt a 1/4″ plate surface that can be set on this bench and then set to the side when not in use.
