Black & Decker 20V Max Cordless Glue Gun

If you want a true cordless glue gun, there aren’t many options. We recently posted about the Surebonder Hybrid, which works with Ryobi 18V battery packs, but there will soon be one more cordless glue gun soon hitting the market, by Black & Decker.

Black & Decker is coming out with a cordless glue gun (BDCGG20C) that works with their 20V Max Li-ion battery packs. The brand used to make another glue gun, but not anything like this one.

It seems that the new Black & Decker 20V Max glue gun is a true cordless glue gun, one that uses battery power to fully heat and melt the glue. Some “cordless” glue guns are not like this, and require AC power to get things going.

The new Black & Decker cordless glue gun heats up and is ready to go in just 90 seconds, which is quite fast.

They say that corded heat guns can take up to 4-7 minutes to get up to working temperature. While I don’t think I’ve waited that long for my Arrow glue gun to heat up, I don’t think it can get up to speed anywhere near 90 seconds.

The glue gun features a high 125W thermal output, which is indeed considerably more power than all of the corded glue guns I just checked. This is probably what contributes to the speedy heat-up time.

Runtime is up to 2 hours with a 1.5Ah battery pack, depending on usage. The glue gun also has a precision nozzle, stand-up design, and rubberized grip.

Black & Decker says this is an industry first solution that merges hot melt convenience with cordless mobility. I don’t think they knew about the Surebonder we posted about before saying this. Then again, the Surebonder is a different type of animal, and way more expensive too.

In the fact sheet and video I saw (sorry, it’s not embeddable), the Black & Decker glue gun was shown being used for things like baseboard and crown moulding installation, securing rugs and carpeting to floor pads, and other around-the-house installation and repair projects.

In some of the example usage, the glue gun was used in place of construction adhesive. I haven’t seen many examples of hot glue being used in place of common construction adhesives, but that’s probably because there hasn’t been an all-in-one cordless glue gun like this before. You can’t use hot glue on location if you’re tethered to a wall outlet.

The heck with household installations and repairs, I want this for prototyping and various small projects.

Price: $79 for the 1-battery kit, $45 for the bare tool

On the surface this looks alot better option than the surebonder.

yet another case where I wish there was an easy way to use a Dewalt 20V battery on a Black and decker (or other SBD corporate) product.

    meh.

Additional query – do they make strength rated hot glues? most of the stuff I’ve ever used as been rather weak compared to normal construction adhesives.

I’m looking, but I don’t really see strength ratings. Glue sticks are normally used in low-load positioning applications, nothing where a lot of strength is required.

Does it only take a Black and Decker Battery ? Since the same parent company owns Dewalt it would be great if they shared the same battery platform.

Wow..talk about a shot across the bow.

B&D taking the lead over Bosch, Milwaukee, DeWalt, and everyone else.

Looks like their 20V platform is shaping up pretty nicely, with decent cordless tools at a decent price.

I have successfully modded err dremaled a B&D battery to fit Porter Cable tools… And it still fits B&D stuff too… This is compelling I can see a real use for it in my day to day work, instead of pulling out my compressor and brad gun for small details. And my wife could find a ton of uses for it too.

I have the 20v B&D platform for some garden tools and cheaper power tools, so this is awesome cause I already have more than enough batteries. Nice!

Any idea whether it works with Hi-Temp glues, or just regular Low-Temp stuff?
