HOT Lighting Deal: Bosch 12″ Sliding Miter Saw (4/15/2016)

Bosch 5312 12 inch Dual Bevel Miter Saw

Today only, 4/15/2016, Amazon is holding a Lightning Deal promotion on the Bosch 5312 12″ dual bevel miter saw.

This model seems to have recently been replaced by the newer CM12SD miter saw, but it’s hard to ignore the current discount level of the sale miter saw model.

The street price for this saw seems to be $530 to $550, and it’s on sale for an even $400 (plus tax), with free shipping.

I’m not quite sure what to say about this model. It looks to be a standard dual bevel compound sliding miter saw, with all the fixings. If you’re in the market for a new 12″ sliding miter saw, the pricing on this Bosch model is very attractive right now.

Bosch has a solid reputation for their miter saws and table saws, and although this model doesn’t seem to have any particularly fancy features, it looks to be a decent and at least competitive choice.

The deal ends 1pm ET today, 4/15/2016, unless supplies run out sooner.

If you have used this model before, what do you think about it?

Looks like they are trying to clearance them out. The street price as you say is much higher – but I also see that Amazon seems to be selling the GCM12SD for $599 today (one of those see price in the cart deals) which is lower than many others have it.

The regular price for the 12″ Axial Glide saw (Link) seems to be $650 or so. One vendor has it on Amazon for $599, and the Amazon price is around $620.

A $50 discount isn’t insignificant, and would make me think hard between Bosch’s newer regular sliding saw and the Axial Glide. But between this sale model and the reduced price Axial Glide, that’s still a $200 difference.

This is the deal I got on Black Friday last year:

Bosch 12″ Axial Glide Saw WITH Gravity Rise Stand: $1122.99 (CDN) starting price.

        Deal Modifiers:

        Amazon Lightning Deal: -$294.00
        Bosch Promotion: -$336.90
        Bosch Promotion: -$25.00

Final price: $467.09 for the glide saw and stand!

What happened was the glide saw and stand was on lightning deal for $829 at first (only a $294 savings). I added it to the cart.

However Bosch also had a Black Friday promotion at the same time where you spend over $1000 I believe to get 30% off. So I added a kit of hole saws that I needed to the cart after adding the saw and SURE ENOUGH the 30% discount stacked onto the saw lightning deal as well! On top of that was another $25 bosch promo (i think for spending over $100).

I checked out and was SURE I would get an email or call from Amazon saying it’s a mistake but I never did and in fact I got the saw a couple days later!

A major complaint on the GCM12SD is its squareness of the arbor in relation to the Axial Glide motion which has been the major headache of this saw. You can only adjust squareness of the the glide path to the fence or you can adjust squareness of the the blade to the fence, but there is no provided mechanism to adjust squareness to the glide path. If the blade is not parallel to the glide path, which is the major problem occurring with owners and production of this saw, you will get burning on one side of the cut and an inaccurate 90 degree cut. Forums are filled with complaints about the blade arbor’s inability to travel parallel and square to the path of the axial glide.

Thanks for the lead. I have been on the fence about getting a new mitre saw. This might be just what I need.

Ive owned this exact saw for a few years, I’ve been very happy with it. The front bevel controls, decent dust capture, and optional upgrades like longer rails for the material supports have been great. It’s better as a shop saw than a job site saw, as it’s pretty hefty, but paired with the gravity rise stand it’s a great option for site work.

I’ve used the 5412l model saw for years. Seems just like this one with the laser guide. Only comment is about dust collection. It’s terrible, the bag catches maybe 30% of the sawdust that’s generated. I use the Fastcap saw hood with it and it captures well and provides better visibility for the laser line. Oh yeah, this sucker is heavy too.

I’ve owned this saw for many years. Gravity Rise Stand is an expensive upgrade but makes the saw extremely mobile. Overall I have been extremely happy with it.

We had 12 Bosch gravity rise stands – with GCM12SD saws mounted – they replaced older Makita sliders as they wore out. There is another (my personal saw) GCM12SD on a gravity rise stand in my garage that replaced an older Dewalt that I gifted away.
My experience is that the stand helps make the saw more transportable – but while the GCM12SD may be heavier than most – I would never think of Bosch saws in general as lightweight or extremely mobile. My view is that the perfect miter saw has yet to be made- and since “perfect is in the eye of the beholder” – with so many different beholders (humans that is) it never will be made.

Thats a fair assessment. The saw is a pig, and the stand is pretty bulky, but moving it around my garage / front yard is pretty easy. Muscling it in and out of a truck and / or moving it around indoors is probably more of a hassle. That said, I have used smaller / lighter saws on a stationary (no wheels) saw-horse style stand … and the Bosch 12″ with gravity rise stand is heads and shoulders better in every respect.

Is this the one with the rotating handle? They used to make one where the handle could rotate in increments up to vertical.

No that’s the 5412l. The only difference I’m aware of between this saw and the 5412l is the rotating handle and the laser. Otherwise identical
