Bosch 12V Drill & Impact Driver Combo Kit for $99

Bosch CLPK22 12V Max Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit

Over at Amazon, they dropped the price of this Bosch 12V Max cordless drill and impact driver kit, CLPK22-120, to $99.

These are both fantastic compact tools. The designs are slightly dated, but you’re not going to snag a brushless combo kit for this price. That’s pretty much my only complaint, that the tools weren’t updated in recent years.

I have medium-sized hands, and sometimes prefer narrow tool handles, but have never found these tools to be uncomfortable or unwieldy. I still have my test samples available, and give them a whirl every now and then. They have a familiar and reassuring feel. Eventually I’ll have to pass them on, but it won’t be easy.

The kit comes with the PS31 drill/driver and PS41 impact driver, a charger, carrying case, and it has been upgraded with (2) 2.0Ah battery packs.

There are no details about whether this is a temporary deal, whether it will last through Thanksgiving and the weekend, or which other dealers might offer the same price.

There will be a similar Milwaukee M12 drill and impact driver deal at Home Depot in a few days, and Lowes will be getting this same Bosch deal at around the same time.

Update: Acme Tools has the same kit for $99, PLUS it’s eligible for extra 11% savings. Coupon code “NOEXCLUSIONS.”

At work we have Makita, millwaukeee fuel, and Bosch impact drivers. I hate the Bosch ones. Why? They just feel terrible in my hands. So bulky!

I agree they’d be more comfortable to use if the handles were ever so slightly smaller in diameter, but the handles for a lot of power tools are like that.

For the 12V stuff, it seems to be because of the battery cells – or rather the size of the plastic housing the cells are in. They probably could have made the battery pack slightly more compact so the tool handles could be too, but then the plastic would be even thinner and there might be durability issues.

Maybe the next generation of brushless tools will be able to have smaller diameter handles when the batteries can be even more compact but still deliver enough juice.

That’s why buying from a place where you can lay your hands on the tool before you buy it is still a good thing. What feels right in my big mitts may be no good for my wife’s (a leftie) or someone who has smaller hands.

Great tools, can’t recommend them enough if you need a compact drill, plus the impact is fantastic for the higher torque jobs the drill won’t handle. Get these plus the Bosch drill and impact bit sets and you’re set for most jobs.

I’ve got the old 10v versions of these and love them. When I need to use my bigger Makita stuff, I usually feel a little disappointed.

And I love how I can jam them in a tool bag without it being a big deal.

It is all individual when it comes to tool handle grip size and shape. I can grab either the Bosch 10.8 drivers or the Milwaukee M12 and immediatley be more comfortable with the Bosch. The grip fits my hand perfectly. When I pick up the Milwaukee my thumb automatically overlaps the finger directly below it on the grip and I have to consciously reposition my thumb each time. Aggravating. Yet it is no flaw because it is simply the way the tols are designed. And the sales numbers speak for themselves. Most prefer the Milwaukee. I do wish Bosch would promote the EC version of these tools better in the States. I have been holding off to see what packages might eventually wind up in a black friday sale. Alas, another year goes by.

Thanks! I updated the post with a link at the end. I checked earlier and would swear it was still at $129.

I put one of these in my cart at Home Depot the other day, fell asleep, and when I woke up – they were sold out. Amazon had them at the low price through yesterday – but the price has gone up $40 today. Are these likely to be on special at $99 again soon anywhere? I’m kicking myself for not pulling the trigger right away (I could have bought several and given them as gifts even)…
