Over at Amazon, Bosch’s PS60 12V reciprocating saw kit is on sale for just $99. It used to be priced at $120-$150, and it is uncertain as to whether $99 is the new price or temporary for the holidays.
I came across this deal by accident. I was in the process of writing up a “build your own Bosch 12V bundle deal” post with mention of the L-Boxx and (2) 12V battery kit and also pointing towards the bare reciprocating saw as an example. Ordering these two items, with Bosch’s $25 off $100+ holiday promo still in effect, means you get an L-Boxx, charger, (2) batteries, and the saw for $133 ($89 + $69 – $25).

It has been a while since I checked the price of the PS60 saw, and so I was surprised to see the kit on sale for just $99. You only get (1) battery, and it has a 1.5Ah capacity instead of 2.0Ah, and there’s no L-Boxx although you do get an insert tray that fits inside a separate L-Boxx.
The 12V starter kit and bare saw combo cost more, but it also offers more – the extra $34 gets you (2) 2.0Ah batteries and the L-Boxx. Still, $99 is a much more appealing price point, especially if you’re still gift shopping for friends and family.
If I were buying for myself, I would buy the separate starter set and bare tool for $133. If I were buying for someone else, I would probably buy the $99 single battery kit.
As with other cordless reciprocating saws of this class, the PS60 is designed for lighter or smaller cutting applications. It works best with 4-inch saw blades.

I love this little saw! Had it for a while and have found a number of uses.
And, yes, I know that the brushless version is certainly coming but I’m glad I didn’t wait.

So, the l-boxx inserts: On this bare saw, the insert is only an extra $13 with Amazon. Some tools are significantly more expensive just to get the little plastic insert. But looking at the deal with the battery for $99 makes me wish we could choose to get an l-boxx insert instead of a soft sided case that no card carrying l-boxx addict would use.
I’m going to hold off on this recip though. I already have a full size corded recip, so I just don’t see this getting much use. I’d rather get a jigsaw (come on Bosch, release a 12v jigsaw!).

They did – but it sold out right away at CPO and amazon… it has not reappeared since then (maybe 2-3 weeks ago). I am hoping to see it released in early 2015.

A lot of the 12V bare tools have been replaced by the ones that come with inserts, and pricing appears to be as they were, but the ones without inserts have been discounted by retailers who want to clear them off the shelves. At least that’s how it seems with the other 12V tools. I don’t see why the same wouldn’t apply here.

I have the Milwaukee M12 version and depending on which battery platform you have bought in to – I would highly recommend this style saw. We got 1 or 2 of the M12 Hackzalls bundled with something else and I at first scoffed – but the guys tried it out and soon we had one on each of our plumbing trucks – found we loved them for under sinks, inside cabinets and lots of other tasks where a full-sized sawzall was overkill and awkward.

Nope, it’s explicitly ineligible for the discount. Some of the other 12V tools and kits are similarly ineligible.

I have had this saw for quite some time and actually use it more than my full size one. I got a fantastic deal. The saw ,2 1.5 ah batteries, 30 min charger and soft case for $75. It has paid for itself many times over. I love my 12 v max.

This is the old kit with the 1.5Ah battery that they sold when the saw was first released. The newer kit has the saw with two 2.0Ah batteries. I haven’t used the 2.0Ah batts yet to know how much better they are, but the 1.5Ah batts they made for this saw were a pretty decent improvement over the 1.3Ah batts that Bosch originally used for the 12Max drills and drivers, so I’d guess 2.0Ah is way better.
I have one of these too (actually one I use plus a spare I got when Lowe’s was clearancing out for the newer models) and it is pretty dang useful. I use it more than lots of other saws because it’s cordless and can pretty much cut anything with the right blade on there. The portability makes it incredibly handy like other cordless tools – you can pack it up or throw it in the truck and take it out to the jobsite or out in the field and get the job done a lot quicker than with a manual saw. The smaller size and one-handed operation seals the deal and makes this perfect for jobs where a full size saw won’t fit or if you need to hold something else while holding the saw.
The only downside is the 3/4″ stroke means slower cutting than a full size saw with a longer stroke, and cutting really hard wood or hardened metal usually means you will use up the battery before you cut all the way through, so having a fully charged backup battery to swap out is sometimes needed to finish the job without waiting for a charge.
It also gets hot when doing hard cutting, and has shut-off protection so will not keep cutting if it’s overheating.
So, if you use it right and know what you’re getting, this is pretty much the saw to get (or the Milwaukee version if you’ve invested in their M12 or M18 line).

This $99 price for the #PS60-102 has been around for a while.
The link you posted is sold by CPO Outlets via Amazon it’s currently $99 +$7 shipping and can be shipped this week. Comes out to $106 plus tax.
There’s another PS60-102 being sold directly through Amazon and it’s also $99 but has free shipping but currently showing a delay of 1-2 months to ship so be careful knowing about a long delay before receiving:

I could have used this saw at least three times this week alone.
I find that the L-boxx case is a little more than I need for this saw and prefer it in a small bag.

Same price as the ones their selling on Amazon except it doesn’t say refurb. so may you want to ask/clarify that it’s not if thats important to you.

Bosch, please come out with this saw in 18v (similar to Milwachina). I find my Electrical and General Contracting crews need/use 18v power.
