Over at Amazon’s there’s a recent deal where you buy (2) select Bosch 12V Max bare tools and get a free 12V Max battery and charger starter kit. Deal ends Oct 31st, 2015. Only the listed tools that are sold and shipped directly from Amazon are eligible, and you’ll see the discount applied to your cart at checkout.
While it’s not a super hot deal, this is a good way to save money while quickly expanding or starting your Bosch 12V Max compact cordless power tool collection. I am generally quite fond of Bosch’s 12V Max lineup, with my only major complaint being how slow they are to bring over new tools that are already out in Europe.

The starter kit retails for $49 and comes with (1) 2.0Ah Li-ion battery pack and a charger. So for the deal, you buy 2 bare tools, and save the $49 on the battery and charger you need to use them with, for free.
The deal works out better for 12V Max newcomers, as current users probably already have a working charger or three. But even if you already have a charger, surely you could use an extra 2.0Ah battery.
Eligible tools include Bosch’s new 12V Max jigsaw, their LED worklight, hand vacuum, multi-tool, reciprocating saw, and what looks to be all of their brushed and brushless motor drills, drivers, and screwdrivers.
This deal looks to provide great savings, and seems even better if you opt for some of the tools that Bosch doesn’t offer kits for, such as the excellent LED worklight, vacuum, or jigsaw.

One Li-ion battery will only get you so far. If you want more, Bosch’s 2x 2.0Ah Li-ion battery and L-Boxx starter kit is a great value at $69, and it also comes with a charger. I really wish that there was an option to save $50 on the 2 bare tools and this starter kit – Bosch and Amazon, are you listening?!

On the tools that are available in a kit with 2 batteries and a charger, this might not be as good of a deal, especially if you get a sale price locally and can stack coupons and use a discounted gift card to pay. I usually get a kit for less than the price of the bare tool, but those who don’t mind paying more and want the L-Boxx insert might spring for the bare tools.
All of the kits come with the one-hour BC330 charger too, not the 30-min BC430, so that’s another thing to keep in mind.
Bosch really needs to come out with a new BC530 30-min charger that meets the energy requirements like the BC330 does, especially with the higher capacity 4.0Ah batts now available, and the 2.5Ah BAT415 batts on the way to replace the 2.0Ah BAT414.

That’s why I have all BC430s now. They’re just a better charger and the 3A rate means my 2.5Ah packs are generally done in under an hour.
I’ve said this before but the time rating convention tool manufacturers use is just plain foolish. Just put the number of amps right on the front.

The big news for me from this article is that the 12V jigsaw is finally available in the USA! I’m still waiting patiently for the 12V circular saw.
Bosch! Please don’t make me wish I had gone with 12V Milwaukee cordless tools.

I tried the vacuum and it’s a toy. Back it went. OTOH the light is fantastic.
