Bosch’s GLM 100 C laser measuring tool is a darn good layout and measuring tool. It’s got some great features and it recharges via micro USB. Plus, it offers some special features via Bluetooth connectivity, which work reasonably well with Bosch’s free app. Check out our review for more details and specs.
I liked the bluetooth laser measuring tool, but not everyone does. There have been a couple of gripes about the app.

This is a test sample giveaway, which means there are a few details to pay attention to.
- If you enter, you do so with the understanding that the tool is provided as-is. The laser measuring tool is in perfect working condition, but it’s not shiny brand new.

I cannot seem find the pouch, instructions, or charging cable. I saw each of these items in the past month, but never in the same location. The user instructions are available online (PDF via Tooled-up), and the device can be charged via your computer’s USB port and a standard micro USB cable. The AC adapter that it’s supposed to come with delivers 5V at 500 mA. If I can find the accessories in the next few days, you’ll get them. But you should expect to only receive the laser measuring tool by itself.

I’ve always wanted to try one of these laser tools, but have balked at the cost, “just to try it out”. We’re in the process of purchasing 8 acres, and this would make measuring distances outside a heck of a lot easier than running a long glass tape, or a trundle wheel!
RKA
Anything over 3 feet and I reach for the laser first. Measuring for crown and base is super quick. For outdoors use, a much bigger timesaver! Even if you don’t win one, just get one, they are getting reasonably priced now.
James
as an electrician i love these tools, makes measuring cable lengths from 35 foot ceilings the easiest!
R
Finally, one handed accurate room measurements!
James C
This would be a great gift for my wife. She has a one year old interior design business she’s getting off the ground. This would really speed things up when she needs to draw floor plans. She’s very tech savvy so I’m sure she would take full advantage of the Bluetooth connectivity and iPad app!
Schaun Rising-Moore
My brother Spencer installs beer systems for a living. The Bosch laser would make our life a little easer. We presently stretch a one hundred foot tape and do a lot of head scratching to figure out all the obstacles in our way.
John Blair
What’s funny is I’ve been eyeing the GLM15 because I thought the 100 model was too expensive. I would love to have it because, hey, who doesn’t like more features…for free.
I also have the benefit of having one of every charging cable known to man. My wife says its because I am a packrat, I like to think its because I plan ahead for a MacGyver moment.
firefly
Been thinking of getting a laser measuring tool to use around the house for home remodeling and such. This would fit the bill nicely.
Daniel Lawson
I have used a smaller version for doing fire inspections at my full time job and like it. I need one for my part time job also doing fire inspections in another town. It helps with occupant loads, hose stretches and the like. When i’m home i can use it for the refurb of the house im working on.
Richard
I’d love this. My father-in-law is a contractor, and it would be a great Christmas gift.
And if he didn’t want it, I paint houses and it certainly would make estimating paint coverage that much quicker!
Paul Gatker
I’m renovating an apt. and it would be interesting to compare the accuracy of the laser with the tape measure that I am currently using. Tape has worked fine for decades but I’m willing to give new technology a fair shake.
Claude
To replace my 10 foot ruler.
Hayden
I build sailing yachts this tool could be useful for steering, skegs, bulkheads, keels
and liners
Jeffrey A Ballard Jr. Ballard
I would use/test it when installing new cabinets in my parents house later this year.
John C
I am spending the months of December 2014 thru February 2015 heading up 14 projects for Habitat for Humanity. Although I am pretty handy with a standard tape measure I would be super excited to have this lending itself to speed and accuracy of longer measurements.
ChrisK1970
Hi Stuart, This would be great for measuring the distance inside of a TT trailer to check for actual length vs. reported length (ie. For hidden compartments).
Brandon
What an opportunity! Installing fireplaces, I can finally bring enough pipe in custom homes instead of running out in the attic or worse on the roof.
Joaquim
This would be a really helpful tool to use at my job measuring out cable runs for card reader doors and cameras. It would also be extremely helpful fir measuring proposed camera location heights.
Kevin
This would be great for those times outside where a tape measure just doesn’t cut it. I’d also use it in places where you can’t easily get to the end location (i.e. height from floor to a high ceiling or ground to roof, etc.). That’s what I’d use it for, anyways.
Chuck Forster
I appreciate that your reviews are always professional and have a good balance of information. I’ve been pretty settled on this unit actually, but it would be nice if I’d score it here first. I have some complicated basement framing and this would be great to deploy.
Jason
I love the fact that it hooks up via Bluetooth and allows you to do layouts on your phone. This a cool tool from bosch
Jay Darby
I service wastewater pump stations. I would use this to measure water level when doing pump draw down tests. Much cleaner and safer than using a tape measure.
Mike
I owned what I think was the original PLS 1. Bought it back in 1999 I think and it cost me over $400. It was working great up until it was stolen about a year ago. I miss it all the time. Great pieces of technology.
Matt
I would save a bundle on paint with this tool. With the price of paint these days it would come in quite handy!
Phil
This would would be a nice replacement for my old Bosch laser measurer that apparently got “loaned” without me knowing it.
CraigH
I have purchased an older model Bosch laser distance measurer for work. I love it. I would like to have one for myself at home. I am just like John Blair and have been thinking of the GLM 15 because it’s cheap and small and I would carry it around in my backpack all the time, but the limit of 50 feet worries me. The GLM 100C measures up to 330 feet and works with my iPhone. That would be an awesome laser distance measurer. Thanks!
Bobby
Just did my parents home with all new baseboards and crown moulding. It would be awesome to use this laser to develop a layout plan, determine material needs and have it all be able to transfer to my phone.
greg
Lowes has a bosch $50 version on display right now, with obviously less features than this one, but still very functional. Its only a matter of time before the ” tool junkie monkey on my back” wins ,and I have one in my tool box.
Sean Manning
Looks like a great addition to anyone’s toolkit.
Josh
I’m doing a fair bit of CAD modeling for friends doing renovations; being able to get fast accurate measurements would be a huge time saver
craig
Flipping house, a laser measuring tool would be very useful, pre-sale taking measurements of rooms, windows etc. Sometime need to do this from the exterior of the house looking in.
Andrew
This would really help out around the house and at work!
Bruce
I would replace my old Craftsman measures, it’s a good tool but it no longer measures at laser aiming point. Most times it’s close enough, but every once in a while I’m tempted to throw it out the window.
Matt Steele
Measure Twice, Cut Once as they say…
Bob
I’d like to try one of these out.
Peter
I just played around with a mini version of this at a display at Lowe’s and I like the idea of using one of these to make estimates for wall, plumbing, electrical and who knows what.
Thanks
Raymond Smith
This is the perfect tool to use to measure for remodeling projects or any number of other things. Seems much more convenient than cumbersome tape measures.
Thank you
Matty
Would not have to tack a nail on the other side of the room to hook my tape end on for overall measurements. One man time saver.
gene
I would totally use it to measure distances and call up the results on my phone so I can freak out my kids w/ “distance ESP”. They’re 8 & 5
George Schade
I have used laser measuring devices for years. I currently own a BOSCH DLR165 and love it. I can single-handedly measure a complete empty warehouse for bidding rack/conveyor systems.
Jim
Stuart as many have said above would love to get this one to try out prior to purchasing – great for building surveys, layout and plan verification! Best Jim
Steven K
This would be great for the garage remodel I am going to do this winter. The reviews you do are greatly appreciated and helpful. Keep up the good work. Please enter me in for this.
Craig Nuckels
I would love to have this, as we are moving offices soon at work and I will likely have to get dimensions of all the rooms.
damean nichols
I would love to have this, it would be very handy in my current project of building my shop, which is attached to my house . ( it was a carport that im converting and adding on to). As well in my field which I’m a Machinist/Fabricator. I also do many carpentry projects like now building on to my house and building a shop. Please enter me in this, it would be a great and very useful tool that would be used regularly. Thanks
Andrew G.
I used a cheaper brand laser tape when we were going to buy a new sectional.
Needless to say it didnt fit!
Would love to have this.
Chris Pyfer
Most frequently I guess I’d use this for calculating square for flooring.
Jason
I give estimates for retrofit residential hvac systems. For every home, we measure room by room to gather how much cooled/heated space there is to help form an accurate heat load. The bluetooth and app functions of the glm100c would be wonderful in providing me something to demonstrate to the homeowner, rather than my scratch piece of paper where is scribble all my numbers down to calculate cfm.
Tom Woolley
Always wanted one. I’ll pass it forward with one of my excess tools…
Stewart Leicester
Around the house and yard and especially the robotics/engineering lab where I mentor at the local high school — this would be so convenient!
John
I’d use it to measure my workshop for an addition.
Russ B
Wow! I would love to utilize this in the upcoming gut and renovation of my kitchen. TIA
Noah
I have wanted one of these for years now. I would use it for measuring the trim high of truss, battens, and scenic pieces. I would use it to measure rooms to figure out cable lengths needed and throw distance from my lighting positions to the stage. It would also just be awesome to have one to figure out room height of ballrooms and grid height at theatres. I could really use this tool.
Boris
I am trying to come up with exact rendering of my garage in sketchup. Measuring with a conventional tools is very difficult and takes a long time. I lost my Leica Disto D2 about a year ago and can’t justify its price again.
Ping-lun Tsai
Always love to have one more tool at hand. I been doing a lot small fix up around the house this will come in handy!
Rhyino
Hope this would be more efficient than trying to measure long runs alone. Don’t always have a helper to hold the end of the tape measure.
Wayne Taylor
I would love to have a laser measuring tool so I can estimate painting supplies in rooms easier.
Scott Davis
My day job is an HVAC tech and my “play” job is a cave surveyor. I could use it for work in getting room sizes and duct sizes. I could also use it for play. This would come in handy for taking measurements from station to station in the cave as well as getting room dimensions to put in the notes for the cave map.
John G.
After the year I had, one of these would really help!
Damon J
There are tons of things I would use this for all over the house. I would probably never use my tape measure again.
matt h
I would love this tool! It would make planning excavations a breeze for work. This would also really help out to figure out cable and hose lengths for my hobby of building and firing propane flame effects.
James M Searcy
This would make measuring for wire runs sooooo much easier.
Kyle
I’m designing & building a “universal design” demonstration home, the sale of which will benefit the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Fund (DMDfund.org). The Boschs GLM 100 C laser measuring tool would certainly be of help in the construction phase.
Thanks for offering it Stuart!
Adam
Would love this around the job site – please count me in.
Matthew Hofbauer
I’m doing a lot of maintenance on my home at the moment and generally I’m a jack-of-all-trades so never know what I need on the job.
phil m.
we do arctic car event productions. a lot of construction, equipment setup etc. this would be a great!
MLG
I’d use it around the house instead of measuring tape…
Andrew
This would be great for measuring cat v cable when setting up COC
GT
To replace a pile of worn out tape measures.
Jared
This would definitely come in handy for a lot of the renovation projects (crown molding, chair rail, electric, etc.) in my near future.
aaron barton
My boss had one of these and I broke it on accident hes pretty cool and didnt get mad at me but I feel really bad cause he loved it. The company wont pay for it cause ur not suppose to bring ur own powertools on the job. If I dont win it im gonna have to get him one anyway. Its an awesome and very accurate tool it speeds up the any job and theres tons of uses for it
joe
To replace my actual feet measuring (heel to toe) and my thumb and pinky fingers.
carl
I would use it. To accurately measure soffit and fascia, other then trying to stretch my 7ft standout stanley out there.
Curtis
I am a 28 year old millwright at a steel foundry in Portland Oregon. The other millwrights I work with are mostly old timers. I am always bringing in new “fancy” tools and I catch a lot of flak for it. I can’t wait to see what they say about this!
Dave
I would definitely use this when I measure my projects and verify architects dimensions.
Flash
For measuring courses I race on for safety clearances of hard objects.
Don
This would make it fun and easier for my kids while helping with house & maker projects.
Neil
I am installing a new door, repairing the siding, floor, and roof, and painting everything. There are all sorts of measurements involved.
This tool will be perfect.
ktash
I am repairing and renovating an 1850’s farmhouse, and would use this to make the process much faster. This house was in terrible shape, so there’s a lot to do. For instance, measuring for trim, most of which is missing, indoors, or cabinets. Outside for measuring a shed that I will be siding and many things to be done to a 2-story garage that used to be a small barn so has really high ceilings. It would be great to measure where there are obstructions like around shrubs. Most of this work is being done without help, like someone to hold the other end of the tape, so this would speed up the process. Also for planting things inside a property line. This is very hard to do outdoors. I realize this is not designed for outdoors, but way better than a measuring tape, stakes and string.
Ryan
Oh my gosh. Could you imagine how much time this would save when measuring a room for cabinets? That’s me. A small one man cabinet shop. Thanks for Giving it away!
Kimber Janney
I have 2 Bosch Laser Measuring tools and they work very well; well enough to use for baseboard and crown molding measurements.
I also like using them for measuring interiors houses for as built drawings but I have really wanted to have a laser measurement that could communicate with my phone or tablet and speed up the drawing process. Maybe I could cut the paper sketch step out of the process.
I have tried a few apps that claim to do this but I have not been completely satisfied.
I would like to try this unit out and report back on its functionality.
It may work with one of the tablet CAD programs that work with other bluetooth enabled laser measuring systems.
jason. W
I’d use this pretty regularly at work. I do disaster restoration and have to do sketches of the affected area. Using a tape measure makes this really hard to do by your self. This tool would be amazing.
John S
I’d love to use this to set up a sort of laser measured stop system for my miter saw… This would work great for making quick measurements!
Doug
I really hate tape measures since one sliced cut my finger. I admit that I don’t have a use for it daily. We hung a mirror and cabinet a few weeks a go and I was wishing for a laser level and laser measure.
David E.
As a carpenter, I would find it useful to measure out rooms quickly for floor finishes or for getting linear footage on trim.
Barri
I tried using my old model today and it stopped working so its the perfect time for a replacement.
Michael Quinlan
This would be a great addition to my tool set, and would be used for everything from estimating lengths of cable runs to general carpentry. Having just built a 30′ wide x 11′ high marching band prop, which must be broken down into pieces that an average high school student’s parent can handle, and then be reassembled with all the pieces lining up, on a weekly basis, this definitely would have come in handy.
Thanks for the giveaway Stuart!
Adam T
Renovating my house that I just bought for my wife and kids. There’s a lot of work and a lot of measuring to do, this could save a lot of measuring errors and limit waste.
Rich Shaddinger
Getting ready to paint the inside of my house and this would be handy to estimate the amount of paint that I need to get.
But it's me!
Would love to add this tool to my belt, especially for the ever continual renovations on our home. Need to add some closets to my daughter’s room right now, so it would work well with my phone at the ready, instead of writing it down and forgetting.
Matt B
I’ve been reading this site for a white now and I’ve never commented prior. I’d love to have a product like this, I’m building a board on board fence in my back yard, 300 linear feet worth, building a barrier around my pool equipment, cabinets in the garage, a shed in the back yard, and just other general work around the house. This would be very helpful in my upcoming builds.
PeR
First use that comes to mind is doing wheel alignments on my cars. Sure beats string and tapemeasure!
The measurement memory would also mean I wouldn’t have to remember the last measurement. It’s frustrating thinking you’ll remember the previous measurement, then doing another just to realize you have to do the first one again because you forgot!
Tom Klopcic
Layout is time consuming…will this make it easy to save time?
That is the key… often the new technology just adds to the list of “check backs” and in the long run, is not better than a tape and pencil!
Joseph C
I have been running a lot of stain grade exterior work lately. I’m really excited about being able to have a cutlist sent to my phone, especially when I’m way up high in a ladder or scaffold.
T. Adams
I would really enjoy having this. I don’t know if Bosch offers an API, but if they did, I might be able to build some type of algorithm that would allow me to calculate the measured square footage into hours of my weekends spent on project work. This could really help me discuss with my wife whether I should do my own work installing a new floor, for example . . .
mike k
I would give it to our favorite contractor that we call “9 fingers”. Unfortunately, he lost a finger on a jobsite, tangling with a saw, and they could not get him to the hospital fast enough. We try to find useful tools that help him with his trim out projects.
Brian Garvin
I am working on a detailed floor plan of our house in order to apply for a historic tax credit and this might move the process along more quickly.
Zev
I would use this to assist in making detailed floor plans in Sketchup for the condo I live in. (It’s very tedious with a measuring tape.)
Also this thing has a frickin’ laser.
Dave L.
As a homeowner who does as much of his own repair/refurb work as possible, measuring is of course a necessity. I don’t have an extra-long tape measure and this would be much easier to use, especially for one person.
Tomas
I would love to try this for measurements around the yard, length of the fence for painting, yard measurements for fill dirt, etc.
don stokes
I am an electrical contractor and a master electrician. My van got broke into last month and most all of my measuring tools got stole. I would love to have this to replace things that I lost. Thank you.
Farid
We manufacture high current, high accuracy DC current measuring devices. We often have to obtain measurements of bus-bars and support structures to help us perform magnetic analysis for our systems, or to customize the senor head design and installation. However, most of the times direct measurement are not possible since the bus-bars can carry current up to 600,000A (o.6 million amps) and voltage between 600 and 2200 VDC! You either have to wait for a plant shut-down or grounding-cart and crew availability, which is not always feasible in the areas we install our systems.
I can see that a precision laser measurement tool can be useful in these situations. As long as there is a stationary reference point on either side of the bus-bar, I should be able to obtain full dimensions. It would fun to try it on one of the trips. No doubt it will come in handy for the occasional home project as well (;-)
Mike
As I read that quickly I thought “600-2200 volts isn’t that high.” Took me a read or two to notice the DC part. That’s cool! That is ALOT of DC power.
Farid
It takes a lot of power to reduce Aluminum from ore (Alumina).
Alexander Thorne
#1 all my tools in my workshop are bosch pro items 😛
#2 I would use it measure out my hallway to get the exact number how much tile I gonna need.
#3 measure out the kitchen to build some new cabinets / countertops in the wintertime.
I would love to test it out – but good luck to everyone
Chad
Sweet, been looking at buying one of these to use at work for cable runs and use it for building my new shop at the house ( when that will happen I have no idea!!)
Awesome giveaway
Thanks
Andrew E.
I’m definitely fine with used tools. Bluetooth is icing on the cake, even if it’s not perfect.
Jonathan
This would be a great timesaver around the house and good for room planning too!
Devin McJimsey
I have one of those sonar distance measures but never seems to work correctly. This would make my home renovations a lot easier.
Jesse Neil
One of these would be handy at work for floor layouts.
Damian
This would be great to use around the house for grabbing quick dimensions. The first place I would use it is the garage!
Daniel
With one of these, perhaps my kids wouldn’t use it as a toy like they do with regular tapes. I have had to throw away more than one broken, or lost, Fat Maxes.
bymbie
I would like enter as well… looks like a great tool. I have a Bosch laser level I like a lot.
Florian Stauss
Since I work often by myself a tool like this is great, because you don’t need to hold the other side of the tape for bigger measurements. And it would speed up the workflow quit a bit, and make it a lot easier to figure out square footage for flooring.
thanks, Florian
Eric Hamilton
As an Electrician this would be good for figuring long cable runs or measuring square footage for estimates. It would sure beat stretching out a tape measure multiple times!
Ryan Carbert
I have a few Electrical estimating jobs comming up in a few months and i would absolutely love to show up with one of these baby’s. I would defently save some time, and look professional as all get out doing so!
thong nguyen
i’m wondering this will be good for window tinting for commercials and houses windows estimates.
Chase
I am hoping to build up a set of tools for my school’s robot club we are starting.
Zorac
I’ve been planning to install some light fixtures in the garage, but it’s hard to measure the ceiling with a tape measure. I wish I could temporarily reverse gravity so I could walk around on the ceiling and measure it that way. I’ve been wanting a laser measure since I first heard about them to help with projects like this.
Bob
Would love to a laser tool. Has to beat the tape measure in longer distances.
Ray H.
About to start at my mothers house doing some repairs and updating and then start at my house with some remodeling and I am the laser measure would be very useful.
Matt B
So who won this?
