Bosch GRC 12V-60 Cordless Ratchet Used on Test Frame

Bosch Tools has been showing off new cordless ratchets in the UK, both a 12V model, and an 18V.

What’s interesting – and exciting – is that users will be able to choose between the 12V cordless ratchet for lighter work in tight spaces, or the 18V ratchet for higher speed.

USA information and details are not yet available, we’ll let you know when we learn more.

Discussion

Bosch has been on a roll lately, with steady expansion of their cordless power tool systems. It’s very nice to see them adding new ratchets to both 12V and 18V systems.

They’re launching both ratchets in 3/8″ drive, and more sizes might be added later.

I would say it’s about time. Shame you don’t see more out of IR. They make some of the best but they are quite expensive.

    eitherway competition is good

Better late than never! I’m pleased to see Bosch making some headway.

It’s interesting how different the 12v and 18v versions look. It’s not just a batter change like when Dewalt makes a 12 and 20 bolt version of the same tool.

Bosch’s 12v ratchet looks like it has a metal shell at the top. The 18v is narrower and longer where it meets the plastic shell.

    It’s like they’re completely unrelated.

Exactly! I really like that they’re distinct.

Bosch took this long to make cordless ratchets? That’s terrible. And I thought Dewalt was late to the party.

Dewalt was 4 years ago, M12 was… 15 years ago?

SBD have gone with MAC first on mechanics cordless and trickled it down into the Dewalt brand. They’d be shooting themselves in the foot releasing Dewalt versions at the same time as MAC.

Bosch haven’t been trying to be a mechanics brand so there’s nothing “terrible” about them not releasing ratchets until now. As a Bosch 18v user I’m not super excited about them. I’d be more interested in 18v 1/4″ and 1/2″ anvils, to work with the sockets I keep on the van, but even they wouldn’t be must haves.

I’m heavily invested in Bosch 18v but wound up going with M12 for automotive specialty tools like ratchets and impacts.

I suppose if I ever manage to break any of my M12 stuff I’ll have some new products to consider, but M12 has been great for me as a homegamer.

The Mac ratchet has nothing in common with the DeWalt 12v ratchet. Other than battery and there isn’t a Mac 20v ratchet

But they started selling on the catalog and trucks the DeWalt impact wrenches and ratchets. And even hand tools which I don’t like

The 12V seems like nothing compelling. This seems like a move to keep people from adopting Milwaukee as their 12V tool platform. If you want to pick 1 battery platform and want variety and quality, Milwaukee seems to be the default choice. Bosch and others are probably losing people due to their small 12V portfolios.

Does the 18V model really have the same speed and torque as the 12V, or is that a typo? I would expect the longer model to have more power.

The 18V has almost double the RPMs of the 12V. Torque is the same but honestly you don’t see high-ish torque cordless ratchets with over 300 RPMs on a regular basis. My M12 High Speed only got 50 RPMs more than the Bosch 18V while being almost half the torque. It almost always needs an extra hand to remove stuff I consider basic stuff like oil pan nuts.
