I saw this Bosch laser on sale, is it a good deal?
Okay, okay. The voices in my inbox and social messages are clear. I already posted about this Bosch red laser level deal in a recent Bosch deals roundup, but I suppose it’s a good enough deal to have its own post.
This is an entry-level interior-use red laser level with 30′ range and 5/16″ accuracy at 30′. Some of Bosch’s other laser levels, such as their 40′ range green laser have similar accuracy.
If you’re going to be working at longer distances and across wider spans, you might want to consider a more premium and longer range laser level with greater accuracy.
But for the price and what it could do, $40 is a very good price for this excellent value Bosch cross-line laser level. The laser level comes with a handy clamp and also has a built-in 1/4″-20 tripod mount.

I bought this a few years ago and until I upgraded to a green laser its performed very well indeed.
No daylight exterior use and not for critically accurate requirements but with the included grab anything “tripod” clamp it’s a great tool.
For interior (fairly dark ambient lighting) framing and picture hanging it’s very useful.

Personally, I prefer red lasers over green for smaller and closer interior applications. Green lasers tend to have longer range and are inherently brighter, and this leads to better visibility but also a lot of glare on white or reflective walls.
Daylight exterior use? Definitely green. But this laser might not have the range and accuracy for longer spans of exterior use anyway.

I’d had a Dewalt red line laser (DW088?) that has been very handy for the last few years in addition to my rotary, depending on the use. Got a Deal on the Green version of the Dewalt and it offered no advantages… Thought maybe it’d be a sharper line or something, being a newer model, but the only diff was the green. Inside use – made no difference at all. Sold it right after comparing them.

Handy unit for small tasks, I think slightly more precise than a couple of its siblings, but falls a bit short when it comes to doing layouts in the daytime, especially on sunny days or places with lots of windows. For some 30ft straightlines in a sunroom, I had to wait till dusk; and, dealing with some flooring pattern layouts, to utilize that straightline going accross, I have had to blackout windows.
In anticipation of the next projects, I splurged one of its bigger brothers, 360 degrees in 3 plane, to save time and aggravation.
Still a hany unit in a pinch.

I use this model of Bosch laser on a daily basis. The horizontal line, used with a tripod, works well for levelling out a 20′ x 12′ work table. I use the vertical line to lay out long tracksaw cuts between ten and twenty feet long. At that distance, the line fattens up to a little wider than a pencil line, but it can be centered, so it works well for that. My only complaint with it is that the sweep of the horizontal line is maybe too small for my work. In a smaller room or shouldn’t be an issue. I do dim the very bright shop lights for levelling, but the vertical line works fine under the same conditions. The current deal is about $15 less than I paid.

I have this kit and some of their pricer lasers. The “tripod” that comes with this I actually like better than the attachment setups that come with the more expensive ones. It comes down to this being intended for homeowners (finished homes) and the other mounting equipment being designed for wood and steel framing.
