Bosch PS31 12V Drill for $40!

Bosch 12V PS31B Drill Driver

We reviewed Bosch’s 12V PS31 cordless drill/driver quite some time ago, and it remains one of our favorite 12V models, just behind Dewalt’s compact drill. If you have a Bosch 12V charger and battery, here’s good news for you – Ohio Power Tool is selling the PS31B add-on for just $40!

The bare-tool is over $80 on Amazon, just to give you an idea of how good a deal this is. Here’s what you need to know – you must enter coupon code WW1 at checkout, and the deal can expire at any time once limited supplies sell out. One more thing – the coupon gets you free shipping as well.

Note: This deal is for the tool-only. Without a separate Bosch 12V (or 10.8V) battery and charger, it’s just a pretty paperweight.

Anyone know if the Bosch and Milwaukee 12v batteries/tools are interchangeable? Looking at pictures of the batteries they look identical. I have 4 of the Milwaukee tools, wonder if I can use the batteries in the Bosch tools. And if they are the same, I’m curious which company is the real source of these tools – Milwaukee or Bosch?

No, the batteries are not interchangeable.

As I understand it, both batteries are built with three 3.6V cells. This is why so many 10.8V/12V batteries appear similar, because the triangular arrangement of the cells is the most compact and practical vertical configuration.

Dewalt and a couple of other brands build their battery packs with all three cells flat and side by side.

I’ve seen some tools that have been modified to use other batteries – like this Makita Saw – modded to use a Milwaukee M12 battery:

Interesting, and I wonder if any other cross-platform conversions have been successful.

That probably means that they sold-out.

@Peter: This may be a dumb question, but did you enter “WW1” or “coupon code WW1”? I did the latter (careless copy/paste) and got the same error, but after noticing my blunder and just entering WW1 got me the discount and free ground shipping. I have an invoice and placed the order after your post, so I’m hoping this will work.

Yeah, I also just did the copy and paste thing.
But for some reason I can not get it to work,
I used a different browser but it always says not valid.
Guess I have to pass on that one.

Weird error, but you could call them and I’ll bet they will take the coupon code over the phone since it’s not working on their website… Ohio Power Tool: 1-800-242-4424

Interesting, “my Amazon” says order full filled by Damlow Prices and not by Ohio Power Tools.

Ordered from Ohio Power from their website. Hadn’t read the entire review & missed be coupon code. On sale regardless, $49 great deal! Called them to see if the code could be applied after order was placed. Very nice lady answered and said they had already applied the code, saved $20 on discount & shipping. Good
people. Shipped same day, in stock, she said they’ve been selling very strongly. Looking forward to using it along with the 12 volt oscillating tool & screwdriver / impact tools. Great line of tools!

After I finally made it to the right web site I saw the Bosch 12V LED work light http://www.ohiopowertool.com/p-2150-bosch-12v-led-litheon-work-light-fl11a.aspx
    Any input on that?

    Thank you

@Peter: Even at the sale price, I’m not seeing the value all that much unless you don’t already have a metric buttload of flashlights (Black Friday sales, anyone?) around the house and/or have an existing Bosch set with batteries to spare. I’d probably pick one up for $20 and would jump on it at $10, but at $40 I’m more likely to buy a second PS31.

Speaking of which, mine arrived today. Retail packaging, new/clean/perfect. Kind of wish I knew more Bosch owners to justify buying a couple for gifts. Probably should build some sort of hutch/holster system above my main workbench to house the set of Bosch drivers. Thanks ToolGuyd for letting your readers in on this deal!

I, for some reason am always short of a flashlight, ebay has the Bosch one for, I think, $30 shipped.
I also like the idea of utilizing the Bosch batteries as much as possible.
I build a little shelf for my drills but it is already to small and there is another drill floating around somewhere.

I like your idea of a holster, that is something Bosch should have done from the get go.

Besides, I would could befriend you so you could justify buying more as a gift. 😉

@Peter: Sorry, that “Free Drill with Friendship” offer required membership prior to Feb 15th, 2012!

But the shelf/holster I was thinking of is pretty much exactly what you’ve got shown in the picture… simple and well-organized. Right now I have ’em in an unruly pile on the workbench next to the chargers.

The flashlight is quite decent, but $40 is a bit much for what you’re getting. $30 is more reasonable, but personally I would prefer a more universally carryable model.

Dewalt’s 12V flashlight is a different story – its $30 price is justified with its more versatile design.
