I found myself at a Bosch-owned forum/community site that tries its best to hide the fact that it’s wholly owned by Bosch, and caught sight of an Amazon promo I wasn’t yet aware of it.

Amazon will likely have a Bosch promo for the holiday season. In previous years, it was $25 off $100+, with some exclusions. I can’t predict whether some or any of these tools will be eligible for that promo, or if even there will be a $25 off $100+ promo. I’ve been surprised in the past, with $20 off $100+ or $50 off $200+ promos instead, but $25 off $100+ of select tools has become a de facto holiday season standard.

I have the jigsaw in the picture. It’s the best I’ve used. I definitely prefer the barrel grip to the d handle.

My first jigsaw was a Porter Cable 548 – D-handle that used an oddball bayonet-style blade. It was well built – but using it , I thought that I did not like jigsaws very much. Then I bought a Bosch 1584VS barrel grip saw – and never went back to the top-handled design again. I guess it depends how the tool feels in your hands, how big your mitts are etc. – but the barrel grip is easier to control for me. I’m now using a corded Bosch JS572EBL and recently bought a Makita cordless DJV181Z from a Canadian store that ships to the US:

I have a 1584 D grip from about 2003. Click model. I wouldn’t part with it.
I have always wondered what the main attraction was to barrel grip saws. I don’t mean that negatively, just wondering. I have fairly large mitts and the 1584 fits great. However, that 57x series saw they sell now looks very tempting. It may be the excuse I need to buy a barrel grip model.
One thing I will say, I have used most brands of jigsaws and have no intention of replacing the Bosch any time soon.

I have a Bosch cordless 18 v D handle . I would be interested to try a barrel grip . I rarely use my jigsaw so I won’t be running off to buy a different one

May or may not be important, but you lose the variable speed trigger with the barrel grip.
