Bosch GTS1031 Ultra Portable Table Saw

Bosch has introduced a new 10″ contractor table saw, the GTS1031, that they say redefines jobsite portability. The GTS1031 is designed to be durable, lightweight, and ergonomic enough for comfortable one-handed carrying.

The GTS1031 features a tabletop that expands up to 18″, an all-steel base, soft-grip handle, and an optimized center of gravity for easier one-handed carrying. It also features under-table storage for the included rip fence, miter gauge, blade change wrenches, push stick, and blade guard.

The rip fence is designed to slide smoothly and lock square to the table surface. As with the 4100-series table saw, the GTS1031 features a 3-position riving knife, easy-attach blade guard, and anti-kickback pawls.

You can use standard 10″ saw blades with the GTS1031, as well as dado stacks up to 8″ and 1/2″ wide. The saw has a 4.0 HP motor that spins at 5000 RPM.

The new saw is priced at $399 and is compatible with Bosch’s GTA500 folding table saw stand. A 24T blade is included with the package.

Pretty impressive portable table saw from the looks of it. I bought a Dewalt 745 about 6 months ago for less, but it cannot accept dados (like many portable table saws). And while many like the Dewalts rack-and-pinion, telescoping fence, its sort of notchy, and it can prevent you from placing support tables to the right or left of the saw. This Bosch seems to solve both of these issues.

Since the table top is small, the get the full 18″, the tsquare fence has to go behond the table, so not much better than the Dewalt for this aspect. This saw get a relatively thin metal throath plate that easily bend at its center. Morever, this insert is not compatible with sister Bosch models. Tsquare fence is never as precise than the telescoping rack & pinion fence of the Dewalt.

I sure could use that table saw. But I don’t have enough $$$ to spare.
