Channellock has come out with 18 new pliers, diagonal cutters, and combination pliers, as part of their new E-series tool line. The new tools have been designed to look and feel sleeker and more modern than Channellock’s traditional pliers, and also feature Xtreme Leverage Technology for greater ease of use.
I reviewed Channellock’s then-new high leverage linemans pliers over two years ago, and found myself wondering when additional pliers styles would receive similar treatment. Similar to those high leverage linemans pliers, the new Channellock XLT tools feature forward-shifted and presumably smaller rivets, which lead to greater force multiplication.

The differences are slight, as you can see in this comparison of Channellock’s 337 and E337 7″ diagonal cutters’ dimensional drawings.
Now it’s more of a stylistic choice between this new line and our traditional line of pliers, and we’re still making both in America. – Ryan DeArment, VP of sales and marketing.
Channellock made it quite clear that the XLT pliers and cutters are not replacing their traditional pliers, but will be sold alongside them. The E-series tools are priced about the same, with some being slightly more expensive and others slightly less expensive than Channellock’s non-XLT tools.
My feeling is that Channellock might eventually phase out their traditional pliers designs in favor of E-series updates, but that would depends on how well the new styles are received by professionals.

I ordered the angled long nose instantly, as they don’t offer 45 degree long nose pliers in their traditional offering, just the short 90 degree pliers.

Really might have to pick up the 6 or 7″ combo pliers, I’ve been looking/wanting an American made version of those. Will also have to try the diag cutters.
Coach James
It would be nice if they made the new design with the old style grip. I hate the bulky, two color grips.
Stuart
You mean the blue-dipped grip? All the E-series tools are available in both grip styles.

Been using channellock tools my entire life. Always picked them over tool truck brands until now . The 337 won’t cut insulated wire without extreme effort. The squared off nose is very un handy in tighter quarters . They suck so bad the hired help sorts them out of the tool box and throw them on the floor.
