Here are the Best Cordless Power Tool Battery Holiday Deals we Could Find!

Nov 11, 2015 Benjamen 5 Comments

If you buy something through our links, ToolGuyd might earn an affiliate commission.

It’s early in the holiday shopping season, but Home Depot has already started offering discounts on Li-ion battery packs. We think it’s unlikely, but they might offer deeper discounts later on in the holiday season. As a precaution, keep your receipt or web invoice in a safe place.

We’re seeing some lower prices on starter sets and Li-ion battery packs from several different manufacturers – Dewalt, Makita, Milwaukee, Ridgid, and Ryobi.

You have to be a shrewd shopper though, I found at least one instance where there’s a holiday display setup for a 2 pack of batteries — with no discount. You’re still getting a good deal, but not any better than that bundle’s everyday price.

According to Home Depot, all of these discounted prices are good until through 02/01/2016, unless supplies run out sooner.

Here are some shortcuts for your convenience. They simply take you further down on this page.

Dewalt

Dewalt 3Ah 20V Max 2 pack

First, this Dewalt 20V Max 3Ah battery 2-pack was $129, but Home Depot is now offering it for $99. Amazon has matched the price and is also selling it for $99, as are some other authorized dealers.

Dewalt 20V Max 4Ah Li-ion Two Pack

If you have a more flexible budget, this 2-pack of Dewalt 20V Max 4.0Ah Li-ion batteries is $120 over at Amazon.

You get 33% more battery capacity (8Ah total vs. 6Ah total) for about 30% more money ($129 vs. $99).

Dewalt 20V Max Lithium-Ion Battery Pack and Charger

Second, this Dewalt 20V Max starter kit is now $129, down from $149. Amazon is matching the price, and some other authorized dealers are still charging $149.

It comes with one 20V Max XR battery and Dewalt’s two-port charger (ToolGuyd preview) that is capable of charging two 12V or 20V batteries at the same time. Since it has two independent chargers, you could charge any 2 Dewalt 12V or 20V Max batteries at the same time.

The charger also has two USB ports (1.5A max, not sure if that is per port or total) for charging your devices.

I wonder if part of the reason this kit may be discounted is that the DCB102BP may be supplanted by the DCB102BPBT, a new Dewalt’s Bluetooth battery starter kit.

Makita

Makita Starter kit

There’s only one Makita battery option in the holiday promo racks at Home Depot – their 18V LXT battery and charger starter pack. This starter pack features a 4Ah 18V LXT battery and a single port charger.

If you already have a charger, you can buy a (2) pack of 3Ah battery packs for the same price ($119) over at Amazon.

And don’t forget about Makita’s early holiday deal – $25 off $100+ select purchases at Amazon. Neither of these products are eligible for the added discount, but some of their Li-ion batteries are, such as Makita’s new 5Ah battery pack ($102 after discount).

The $25 off $100+ promo will probably follow along to Home Depot in a week or two, and they might or might not have the same eligibility restriction.

Milwaukee

Milkwaukee Battery 2 pack

On to the Milwaukee battery deals, Home Depot has discounted these pair of 3Ah Milwaukee M18 XC battery packs by $10, to $129. It’s not a huge discount, but a $10 discount is better than nothing.

Milwaukee Starter kit

This Milwaukee M18 starter kit has also dropped in price by $20, down to $129. It comes with an M18 XC 5.0Ah battery pack and their standard multi-voltage charger that has both M12 and M18 charging ports.

Milwaukee Red Lithium 2 pack

You’ll also notice Home Depot wrapped the Milwaukee M12 Red Lithium XC battery 2 pack in a nice display along with all the other discounted merchandise, but didn’t actually lower the price. The displayed price of $99 is the normal retail price.

Stuart’s Note: This Milwaukee M12 XC battery 2-pack was on sale last year as part of Home Depot’s 2014 Black Friday sale, for $69. Come Black Friday 2015, and the display will probably have a new price stickered onto the display. If the $69 price returns, this turns into a hotter “2 for the price of 1” deal.

Buy Now

For what it’s worth, this gambit did work on me for a few minutes, until I did my due diligence and checked the website.

It’s still a good deal compared to the $69 price for one M12 XC battery, and it’s sure to catch some impulse shoppers looking for a “holiday deal,” but there’s no real incentive to buy it now, compared to last month or a few months from now.

Ridgid

Ridgid 5Ah battery pack

Similar to Makita, one one Ridgid battery is being discounted, at least in stores: the Ridgid 5Ah Hyper Li battery. This battery usually runs $119, but for now it’s being lowered to $99.

Buy Now

There are a couple of online-only Ridgid 18V battery deals as well:

Ridgid 18V Battery Pack 2-Pack

If you don’t need the latest and highest capacity battery pack, you can buy a two-pack of Ridgid 18V 4.0Ah battery packs for $99 as well.

While a single 5Ah battery pack offers lots of convenience, this is a better deal if you don’t mind carrying around the extra battery pack. 8Ah total for $99 sounds better than 5Ah, doesn’t it?

Buy Now

Ridgid 18V Compact Battery 2-Pack

There’s also a 2-pack of compact Ridgid 18V 2.0Ah Li-ion battery packs, on sale for $79. Just one of these batteries is typically $69.

Buy Now

Ryobi

Ryobi Compact Lithium Battery 2 pack

We also found a 2-pack of Ryobi compact Lithium batteries for $50. This set of batteries would normally cost you $60. Note that these are not the more expensive compact Lithium+ batteries (read all about the differences here) which will still will set you back $99 for a 2 pack.

But if you want the Lithium+ batteries, and are willing to spend $99 for a 2-pack…

Ryobi 18V One+ 4Ah Battery Two Pack Home Depot Holiday 2015

Buy a Ryobi 18V One+ 4.0Ah battery pack, get another free. So that’s 2 for $99.

Bosch

Why did we list Bosch separately in the table of contents at the top of the post? Because these aren’t really deals. Well, they are good bargains for what you get, but the pricing is pretty typical.

Bosch 12V Max Starter Kit

With Bosch’s 12V Max starter kit, you get a charger, (2) 2.0Ah battery packs, and an L-Boxx that can be used to store your first Bosch 12V tool purchases (some larger tools excluded).

All this for $69.

This would work great if you had your eye on Bosch’s 12v Max LED worklight or hand vacuum, which only ship as bare tools.

Buy Now

Bosch 18V Starter Kit

Bosch’s 18V starter kit is a similarly good deal. For $119 you get a charger, (2) 2.0Ah battery packs, and a deeper L-Boxx-2.

The best ‘deal’ I’ve found for getting a Bosch ‘starter kit’ is to buy a refurb tool combo then sell the tool on ebay and keep the batteries and charger. I did this earlier this year with a 12v combo and I nearly broke even.

I’ll probably do it again with an 18v kit but sell the tools I have now and in the process upgrade my tools.

Thank you for the heads up on the deals. I just have to decide between the ridgid 5 amp or 2 4amps to run my reciprocating saw.

2 / 4.0ah is a no brainer. Just picked up a pair myself. Do some calling around, some, not all stores carry these but never have them on display.

The reason I keep using Ryobi tools is because of the excellent deals on Batteries. Also they keep the same battery configuration, so I can use the old tools with new batteries. Even using the old nicad tools with newer Lithum batteries. The only thing you can’t switch is the old battery chargers. I also can use them with lawn equipment, like their weed whip. Great value for the money.

Some of the other brands keep coming up with new batteries that won’t fit the old tools. Those tools may be nicer, but for DIY, that doesn’t matter. For pros it does.
