We recently found out about Craftsman’s Tool of the Month program, and found it to be quite interesting. While not quite the same as a Craftsman Club calendar with $5 and $10-off coupons on the back, $10-off Craftsman tools every month seems like a nice little incentive to keep fans shopping.
Step 1: Spend $199+ on one qualifying Craftsman tool purchase. (I believe this means one purchase and not one tool purchase.)

Step 2: Fill out this form to activate your membership.
Step 3: Receive $10 in Sears Shop Your Way rewards points on the first day of the month, every month, good towards Craftsman tool purchases. Points expire after 30 days and cannot be combined.
Translation: Spend $199+ on a single Craftsman tool purchase, sign up for the Tool of the Month program, and get a total of $120 worth of rewards points that you can use on Craftsman tools over the span of 12 months.
You can spend your $10 Craftsman Tool of the Money rewards points in-store or online.
Only one membership per person per year.

The Downside: What downside? If you’re going to spend $199 on Craftsman tools anyways, this will give you free $10 a month in points to spend on small hand tools, accessories, and consumables. You can also apply the points towards larger purchases. $10 off a $50 wrench set, for example, is still pretty good.
Right now there’s no information about if/when the offer will expire.

I can confirm that this program works. I bought a 3 piece tool chest combo and after registering at the website, it activated the membership the following month. It means 1 tool purchase (can be multiple items), but must be a single purchase of tools. As for the expiration date of the offer, right now Sears website says “Offer ends 31-Dec-2014”. Be sure after you make a purchase to visit the program website and register (in order to tie it to your sears/shop your way rewards account. If you time it right, even though the $10 credit expires every month, combined with other sears offers and shop your way coupon (like $10 off $50, or $10% back in points) you can really make those points stretch. It also makes making such a large single purchase easier knowing that you can make a mental discount of $120 (total points over the year) off whatever you bought. Also, keep in mind that the points are universal across multiple stores (Kmart, Lands End, Sears Outlet etc) and that there are no “lockouts”. In other words, if you see a great sale on an item or it’s on clearance, you can still use your points on them. I personally am looking forward to using them on hand tools specifically, because I’m not a fan of Craftsmans power tools. But, also keep in mind that these points can be used on items additionally discounted in the Craftsman Club Member Saver Deal Days. Will definitely be using them with another coupon offer to drive down the price on that impact socket set I’m after. Happy Shopping.

I got my first $10 in surprise points for being in the tool of the month program. I just don’t know if there is a minimum purchase needed. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks.

I still don’t know if there was a minimum, I called and they claimed there is no minimum. I made a purchase but it was over for $62 so I will come back next month when I try and make a small purchase.
