Craftsman AssureLink Garage Door Opener

Craftsman is introducing two new AssureLink-equipped garage door openers. Supported by the AssureLink Gateway network, the new garage door openers offer on-the-go access from any smartphone or PC with internet connection.

Why would you want something like this? Craftsman mentioned a number of useful situations – peace of mind for times when you forget if you closed the garage door or not, those times when a package arrives and nobody is around to take it inside, or if one’s kids or guests arrive and nobody is yet home to greet them.

Awesome. I’m excited for more smart home integration besides just lighting control.

It does look to be a nice implementation. Built-in WiFi might have been a little better, but potentially more difficult and costly to design into the opener.

I wonder who will be the first to hack these garage door openers to be used with an Arduino providing similar functionality and smartphone-connectivity.

I was thinking the first hack would be to write a web interface to use on the local network instead of going through the pay-per-year site. Provided the AssureLink gateway is a simple interface.

Hmm, it looks like it may be this device. Craftsman and Liftmaster are pretty much the same right? That could be ripe for an arduino/xbee hack. http://liftmaster.msipressroom.com/ekit/press/InternetGateway_FINAL.pdf

Wow, nice sleuthing! Details about the Liftmaster and MyQ Gateway still seem to scarce, but I haven’t seen mention of any subscription fee. It does look like there will be additional products debuting in 2012, which will definitely be interesting to see.

Subscription fee? Leave it to Craftsman to yet again leave out important details and just assume everyone has read the fine print. What in the world happened Craftsman, are now a group of lawyers intending to take every single penny you can possibly take?

Craftsman’s Garage Door app (thru Assurelink) has stopped sending notifications. Google Play Store is inundated with negative reviews lately on this with no answers… The help email box is no longer monitored.

I called Assurelink, got transferred to Craftsman, who transferred me to Chamberlain. They are in fact asking all customers to move over from Assurelink to the MyQ app. You need to write down your Craftsman Hub serial number (10 digits without the leading letters), delete that device out of the Craftsman Assurelink app, sign up/sign into the MyQ app, then follow the steps to add the Craftsman Hub and link the garage door opener to that app instead.

Would have been nice, with Craftsman having all our email addresses, if they would have shot us a notice to move over before just shutting down features; but what are you gonna do…
