Craftsman TradeStack Tool Bag

I was looking for something else when I came across this Craftsman TradeStack open mouth tool tote, on sale for $49.98.

The Craftsman tool bag measures 21″ long x 12.5″ wide x 12″ tall, making it a fairly large-sized tote-style tool bag.

it has a large fold-down handle and both internal and external pockets and compartments.

The bag looks to hold a decent amount of tools, with the product image showing the tool bag filled with a mix of power tools and hand tools.

From Lowe’s product listing, it looks like the list price on this tool bag (CMST21451) was $90. Amazon says the bag had a typical price of $72.98, with online price trackers showing that the price was $90 for a bit, with mid-$70ish pricing in between.

The current $49.98 price looks to be the all-time low for this tool bag, but it also looks like it’s been at this price for a couple of weeks.

The tool bag has a double wall structure, free-standing waterproof base, 1680D construction, removable divider, and a shoulder strap.

There are 57 organizer pockets in total.

It’s part of the Craftsman TradeStack modular tool storage system, but can be standalone.

I tend to like bags of this general style, and I don’t see any gotcha’s.

Compared to some of the other open-style tool bags I have seen, the folding handle can be a convenience when inserting or removing bulkier tools or supplies.

Keeping in mind the large size of the tool bag, $50 seems like a great price.

Seems like there’s not a spot for a shoulder strap and the handle pivot is all plastic. Don’t know how long that’ll hold up or how good it’ll be to haul over a long walk.

    Think I’d pass, personally.

Both Amazon and Lowe’s listings say it comes with a shoulder strap, but it’s not clear to me where it connects either.

It’s that D ring you see at the front. Looks very flimsy. Similar to https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/craftsman-tradestack-tool-bag-cmst21450/%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E

Good catch – I was looking solely at the sides.

SBD and Craftsman tool bags tend to be quite sturdy, especially with the waterproof base.

I have this bag. Use it all the time. The main issue I had was the placement of the tape measure clip made no sense. It’s way too easy to knock off. I moved it to the end under the handle pivot and it works much better.

As far as the shoulder strap. It connects on opposite corners via the D Rings.

The molded base is great but the design isn’t quite right to connect to the Tradestack boxes securely. I bought it with the thought that I could connect one organizer boxes to the bottom and carry them both by the handle. It took some modification to the bottom to make the connection strong enough for that.

Overall it is a good bag.

Seems like a good deal for that size and construction. Too big for me. I always end up filling my bag, so I need the physical constraints of a smaller size to avoid it becoming so heavy I resent carrying it.

Glad im not the only one.i had a smaller 10×10 bag this style i used for a long time and it was at least 30#. Id make a point of warning others when they went to move it for some reason.

I’ve been looking for a replacement for my BucketBoss Extreme open top tool tote for a while. This one looks interesting. But I’d prefer a next size longer. the Veto long open top is way too pricey for me.

Any long open top tool totes in the 24” inside dimension range out there?

I like the Milwaukee Packout totes. There’s a 20” model which I don’t have but I like my 15” one. It is my carpentry catch all and works great.

I have one of these long totes, but found that it’s way too easy for me to overload it. 30lbs is about my max for a hand-carry bag that goes anywhere. Right now, it serves well on a cart in the shop. It’s got a wire frame for structure. Pockets hold their shape well:

That 15″ Packet open tote has a good layout, but the 20″ seems more like a duffle bag.

These have for to have the most uncomfortable handle on the market. The layout is decent, the build quality is good for the price, but the handle says no.

I have a much smaller but similar Craftsman tote (from when Sears existed) that I use as my “project tote” for projects around the house – I have some basic tools loaded in the various pockets and the center is open for grabbing other tools are parts. It has been very handy and has saved me a lot of extra trips back to the main tool box.

I am not sure it is worth a $50 upgrade, but the elastic is wearing out so I may need something else sometime soon.
