Craftsman Trak-Cut Mini Circular Saw

Craftsman Trak-Cut Circular Saw

Long before the Dremel Saw-Max and Rockwell Versacut mini multipurpose circular saws hit the market, Craftsman had a mini circular saw of their own. It was never a flagship product, but it did have a strong following. Craftsman has released a new multi-material-cutting version of the mini circular saw, and it comes complete with a convenient miter track.

The new Craftsman Trak-Cut Multipurpose Mini Circular Saw features a 5-amp motor, 3-1/2″ blade size, maximum cutting depth of 1-1/8″, and it can be used to make cross cuts, rip cuts, and plunge cuts.

The new mini circular saw is bundled with a miter guide base/cutting track for greater ease of use and improved cutting precision. The guide appears to be optimized for flooring and other materials that approach its maximum cutting capacity, but it works just fine with thinner workpieces.

The new saw is suitable for plywood and other sheet materials, plastic, light metal, wood boards, cutting tiles and flooring material, and it can help with grout removal. The kit will include 3 blades for cutting laminate, ceramic, and metal materials, and additional blade types will be available separately.

Additional Features

  • onboard tool storage
  • ergonomic guard release lever mechanism
  • dust extraction connection
  • power indicator light
  • carry case for saw, guide base, and accessories

The Trak-Cut saw is available now with a MSRP of $130. I have seen street prices as low as $81.

You’re commenting about a tool that won’t hit stores for another month…

Celesti Arcana, a bit sad to comment on a tool is not on sale yet, these kind of comments should be banned from the website……. Or is it the competition who does not like to see a superior product in this category…..?
Anyway from what I read it seems Craftsman is introducing the most powerful mini-saw in the market yet with some unique features and a guide system which I had never seen before!

There was/is a Craftsman mini-saw that has been sold for a few years, that the comment may be referring to.

I never saw anything “bad” about the display models, other than their not having the same capacity to do work as a large circulars saw, which can not do as much work as a worm-drive circular saw – which dwarfs by comparison of a chain bar attachment that allow timber frame sized work to be done.

I guess all tools have a working range. And, to be satisfied with performance of a tool, the user needs to be aware of the tools comfort range and have more general purpose tools available to do different scopes of projects.

NOT THE SAME SAW – but In 2008 we bought a similar looking Craftsman Plunge Cutting Saw model 9-10872 – that we tried out and found to be a bit lacking. The things we especially didn’t like (on that saw) were the vinyl power cord that got stiff and unmanagable in the cold and the blade guard that was awkward and obscured the cut-line. Always a sucker to try out something new – we might buy one of these when it becomes available and give it a try for flooring trim.

I bought one of these last week. Pretty neat tool but can’t get the trigger lock-on feature to work. Tried several at Sears and none would lock.

I recently purchased the new version and have not used it yet. I read several comments regarding difficulty to find additional saw blades and I found them to be true. I have tried the local Sears store and the Sears website and cannot find the 3 1/2 inch blades. Even when I enter 3 1/2 inch saw blades it pulls up 3 in blades for a cordless model at much lower rpms. It also pulled up blades for a reciprocating saw that were also 3 1/2 in long. I plan on going back to the store tomorrow and see where I can buy additional blades or I will get a refund. I checked out Dremel, Roto saw, and Rockwell but they did not have the same features.

That could be a problem, as 3.5″ is not a common blade size. The Sears website says that the saw accepts 3-3/8″ blades, but the tool is clearly designed for 3.5″ (89mm) blades (PDF manual, pg 10).

I’ll do some digging to see what I can find out.

I hate to eat my words, but I talked with the local Sears tool dept Mgr and he said the redesigned tool was fairly new and blades are available. He had some and I purchased 4 additional blades so I would have them handy. He told me it was not being discontinued and the blades are available, but apparently not on line yet. I hope to use the tool in the next few weeks on a small project. Maybe I won’t experience the same issues that I have read in this forum.

Glad you were able to get your hands on some replacement blades! I have found that local Sears stores do occasionally carry products that the online store has run out of or doesn’t stock. You mentioned already checking the local store, which is why I didn’t suggest it.

Needed to replace some bad board on the back of my garage and wanted something light so I could cut while boards were still attached to garage, this saw worked great! Five stars for this product, it worked great and I’ve since started using it for projects around the house. Highly recommended!

Looks like this saw may be discontinued. Searsoutlet.com is the only place you can find it for sale for $57. No longer available on Sears.com or Craftsman.com. Also not available at kmart.com or acehardware.com

I’ve flat given up looking for replacement blades. Went to two local Sears stores only to be told, we don’t carry, buy at our web site store.
It’s like looking for the famous Sears popcorn,,,, no such luck.
This is a tool that was manufactured overseas and you cannot get replacement blades,

I see you can`t find any blades that must be sears signature move . to sell items you cant use to long this way you have to buy a new saw . this is called a throw away item. I to had a small saw model number 11210872.0 it takes 3 inch blades 10 mm arbor . you guessed it no replacement blades. please don’t let them continue to make fools of us stop buying craftsman saws or any thing that has attachments . that probably cant be found in a year.
