Craftsman Versastack Cooler CMST17824

We recently posted about the new Dewalt Tstak rolling cooler, and Thom commented: As soon as the red and black versastack version hits the market I’m getting one. Well, thanks to a comment by Vards, we now know that a Craftsman Versastack version of this cooler will indeed be coming to the market.

As far as we can tell, based on visual appearances, features, and product specs, the new Craftsman Versastack rolling cooler (model CMST17824) seems to be identical to the Dewalt Tstak model, aside from the color scheme and different branding.

  • 30 quart volume
  • Up to 3 days of ice retention
  • 7″ wheels

  • 2 can holders built into the lid
  • Built-in bottle opener
  • Telescopic handle
  • Compatible with other Versastack (and Tstak) tool boxes and accessories
  • 110 lbs max rolling load capacity

Craftsman says that their new rolling cooler is ideal for weekend picnic plans.

If you prefer a yellow cooler with Dewalt branding, consider the Tstak version.

At the time of this posting the Craftsman Versastack rolling cooler is a little lower priced, but that could always change.

It’s impossible to tell if the two coolers are identical, at least without seeing more product photos of the Craftsman version, or comparing the two in-person. But, it’d be hard to imagine that the two brands’ coolers would be different in any subtle ways.

If you could get either cooler for the same price, which would you pick – Dewalt yellow or Craftsman red?

SBD lets Craftsman copy the DeWALT tools, but not DeWALT to copy Craftsman tools, I want DeWALT version of Craftsman Cordless TILE SAW.

if I had to pick one it would be yellow. but for 20 or more dollars cheaper I would pick red.

    give or take a bit.

I wouldn’t buy either at over 120 though.

Woohoo! I will be ordering this over the weekend!
Combined with the Versastack jobsite radio this is going to an excellent tailgating rig for High school and college football games as well as summer get togethers. Thank to Stewart and Vards for the heads up!

Wow SBD is really banging out craftsman product. I like it. Heat gun, fan and now the cooler. I think they’re serious about taking on Ryobi if this keeps up.

$128 is a bit steep but I bet street price is sub $100 making it competitive with the competing brands.

Dang, I wish that StanleyBlackandDecker would learn from their mistakes, and General Motors, and Fords, and Dodges mistakes. All this mass production of the same exact freaking thing just with different colors is ridiculous stop making inferior products and just make good stuff!

Well, I would love to see some TSTAK boxes in both Irwin and Lenox colors 😉

I bought Versastack two-drawer box just for insulated tools, although I don’t like red color that much.

what i want to know is if the Craftsman Tstak carriers are compatible/interchangeable with the DeWalt Tstak stuff? I would like to see this as an open standard.

From everything we have seen, they *should* be.

Is this how it’s going to be from now on? SBD releases a DeWALT item, then a Craftsman item of identical specs?

Why can’t they just announce an ITEM, then all the brands it’s available under? Especially with regards to the TSTAK/Storage options, we all know we’re in the same SBD family, isn’t it more sensible to know we’re ALL getting taken care of with the release of a tool or tool box?

I’m all for there being cross-branding here. As I’ve said in the past, I’d love it if someone working in a specific trade used one or more of the SBD industrial brands, like DeWALT, Porter Cable, Proto, or Bostitch, and came home to a Garage/Workshop full of Craftsman tools identical to the work tools, but never leave home. It would make keeping the work tools maintained quite easy, and encourage organization.

But… is this how it’s going to be now? Craftsman gets horns and parades for their releases, while the rest of SBD is waiting for a DeWALT release only?

Stanley Black & Decker has had select cross-branded items for years and years.

I bought a Dewalt hand tool box at the hardware store, and then saw it Stanley-branded at a Black & Decker Outlet Store (before they all closed).

I know they’ve had the cross branded products for years, that’s why I’m confused as to why we’re only hearing fanfare for the DeWALT and Craftsman versions these days.

I mean, we KNOW they are producing these things for the other brands, right? The Heat Gun and TSTAK systems are going to be coming for Stanley, Porter Cable, and Bostitch Right? Or MAC? There’s at least 5 brands that get duplicates from SBD HQ. Craftsman is only the newest of the brands, so I don’t see why they’re not just doing SBD conferences/Junkets/Announcements, and holding up the base model tool to say “We made it!” and then say “You can get it under DeWALT, Craftsman, and MAC branding as your choice!” or, for something more like hand tools, Proto and Craftsman, or Proto, Stanley/FatMAX, and Craftsman.

Know what I mean? It seems neglectful, almost silly, to only announce the DeWALT and Craftsman brands now. SBD users KNOW they have sibling brands at this point, right? I mean, you’d have to be pretty out of it to not see the copies of the DeWALT tools being used in Porter Cable, Bostitch, Stanley/FatMAX, and MAC branding out there. It’s not like it’s offensive to have the same tools in different brands under the umbrella. SBD family users have had it for decades now, haven’t we? We’re cool with it, last I checked.

I’m just confused, I think. One of those “The Marketing People are on Drugs” types of situations. It would cost less to just announce all the brands that carry a version of the same model, rather than organize a different event for each brand. It’s… Inefficient… A word someone will probably carve into my grave stone some day… Or Urn, whatever, you get the point.

We know SBD cross brands, but the average consumer doesn’t. Heck my buddy Vic who haa been a contractor in the PA/NJ area for 40 didn’t know Milwaukee was bought by Techtronics or that Dewalt was bought by B&D much less that Stanley and B&D merged. The average consumer sees Craftsman, recognizes the brand and buys it.

Craftsman is a new line of business for SBD so you can expect it to get a separate product announcement until they build the brand up.

Visibility. If we see something under Dewalt branding, it’s not worth discussing the Facom cross-branding if that’s not relevant or interesting to 99% of ToolGuyd readers.

What announcements are you talking about? SBD didn’t announce these coolers separately or at all.
