Crazy-Low Nicholson File Set Prices at Amazon

Nicholson Maintenance Hand File Kit

Amazon has once again dropped the price of several Nicholson file sets. On the product pages, look the right under “more buying choices” if a 3rd party seller price appears on the main page.

Most of these discounted sets are currently backordered, with shipping estimates of 1-2 months. It is important to note that Amazon does not charge credit cards until an order is ready to ship, and that orders $25+ are eligible for free super saver shipping.

UPDATE: It looks like all 5 sets have been over-sold and are no longer available for backorder. It may be worthwhile to check back in the near future to see if the sets are relisted again at their sub-$10 prices. There’s no way to tell if Amazon will even offer them for direct sale again at any price.

**  People are reporting that some of the files they ordered are USA-made, and some are imported.

I saw an article about Nicholson File closing a plant in the US. I wonder if these deals are related to that? (The last ones from this plant, or the first ones from a foreign plant, perhaps?)

I’m not sure the sale is related to the US factory closure. I’m also fairly certain that there were already Nicholson plants overseas for a while now, although that doesn’t explain why the sets people are receiving are mixed.

Thank you also for the link, it provided a quote by the Apex CEO/president that I will definitely keep in mind for the future.

I don’t recall ever seeing Amazon directly sell tools I know to have been liquidated, or at least not at liquidation prices, so I’m not quite sure what is prompting these random discounts. Not that I mind, of course.

Looks like the 9 file set with handles has sold out.

Thank you for the update, that set does look sold out, or rather over-ordered, at the moment. It may be worthwhile to check back in a day or three to see if it becomes available for backorder again.

That’s my plan. Thanks for the tip nonetheless!

Keep checking Amazon for these sets. They are coming up on deals weekly.

I’m happy with my 9-piece set (no handles). Now I just need to find a deal on some Skroo handles.

It looks like the 9-pc maintenance set has also over-sold and so its direct-sale Amazon listing has been removed. The lower-priced Amazon listing may or may not go live again in a few days, there’s no way to tell.

It actually looks like all 5 sets have been over-sold and are no longer available for backorder at all.

For what it’s worth, over the last month and a half, I’ve had quite almost daily “your order has been delayed” emails, and then finally my order was canceled due to the price error. I wouldn’t expect this one to ever come back.

Stuart, the only place still sells USA made Nicholson files are Harry J. Epistein (although they are on closeout) and Grainger. All Nicholson that are currently made today are made in Mexico, but as of this year, the file cleaner brush is still USA made.
