Good for competition to see the Jorgensen and Pony names back on clamps – even though the brand name is now owned by Hangzhou Greatstar (China) who also own the Arrow (as in staplers) and Goldblatt (as in trowels) brands. When I started woodworking the Adjustable Clamp Co’s Jorgensen and Pony brands dominated what was sold here in the US. Clamps from companies like Dubuque and Hartford had a very minor presence on the shelves. My thought is that competition from Bessey – when the introduced their patented parallel-jaw clamps – helped with the demise of Jorgensen.

These Bessey F clamps have twice the load rating and seem like a better deal at $25 for 4 than Amazon’s flash sale of $16 for 2. They’ve become my primary clamp for most tasks,

Those “light duty” Jorgensen clamps are definitely… light duty.
The “medium duty” versions are slightly nicer than those Bessey F clamps, mostly just because of the rubber overmolded handles.
Either way, a tiny bit of MDS grease on the threads really helps.

Some old timer woodworkers would cut grooves in the wooden handles to provide for a better grip. Others would brush rubber cement on them – which when dry – provides a grippier surface. A newer Bessey style – lets the handle pivot to a right angle – providing the capability for applying more torque.

I’m not going to lie…..I thought my patience (procrastination/cheapness) had finally won out and I was going to see a deal on the Dewalt 60v chainsaw.
The Home Depot outdoor power equipment headline with the Dewalt pics drew me in….
Oh well, picking up either the chainsaw bundle with 2.0ah battery and charger for $299 on Friday when I am out and able to swing by HD for curbside pickup. I have two flexvolt batteries in my collection and three chargers already including the 4-bay rapid charger for the tough system rack. So I don’t really need the extras but I suppose an extra battery and charger is a good problem to have, can always gift them as well for Christmas.
Anyway, thanks Stuart for all your hard work and letting me drop in and ramble on about a chainsaw I want to buy for two weeks.

I thought the same thing when I went to HD’s website this morning and saw the homepage Special Buy banner was a picture of the FlexVolt chainsaw with “Save up to 40% on Outdoor Power”, but no such luck. We tried.
Once you get it, I do have one recommendation though: try their optional 18″ bar (DeWalt ServiceNet p/n N500117), as it is a .050 gauge bar. The slightly thicker bar/chain combo gives it a bit more rigidity over the stock .043 gauge bar/chain, resulting in less chain jumping. Theoretically it would sacrifice some speed/battery life though. But It also gives you more options for chains. The stock bar gives you pretty much one choice, an Oregon AdvanceCut 90PX056G (R56 in retail blister pack).
The 18″ bar allows you to use the same chain series as the stock – AdvanceCut 91PX062G (S62 in retail blister pack) – but also their larger semi-chisel cutter head series ControlCut 91PXL062, which wears less and lasts longer. In addition you can also use a Stihl Micro (63 PM3 62) – similar to the AdvanceCut – or the Stihl Super (63 PM3 62) – similar to the ControlCut. All of which are still low-kickback, btw.
By no means necessary, just an upgrade if you plan on doing more heavy cutting.

Solid advice as always. Looks like the 18” bars are a little hard to come by but still able to be located, albeit from appliance parts depot style places. Amazon, HD, Zoro, Acme etc don’t seem to carry them. I will place an order for one and the upgraded chain as soon as I have the saw physically in my hands.

Next question, which 60v blower is better for moderate outdoor use (blowing leaves and grass off the driveway, mulch bed clean up, nothing too crazy). The axial or traditional? They both have similar specs. Reviews are scattered. Wonder if there is a bundle with the chainsaw…….hmmmm.

The exact same air hose reel is available at Harbor Freight almost all the time for $59.99 w/coupon, includingright now. It used to be cosmetically identical right down to the oval shaped red arrow sticker, but now HF has the arm made in yellow. I got it for $49.99 when they did it for $59.99 and had a $10 off all purchases over $50 coupon going. I think that was the best price ever for this. It’s sold under a bunch of different brand names for different retailers.

It appears, based on description, dimensions/weight and manufacturer (ITI/Intradin), the ReelWorks and Goodyear branded reels are also identical other than the Goodyear is prettier.

The ReelWorks hose appears to be the same as the HF one. The Goodyear, I don’t know. The hose is the cheap part, you can always change hoses later.
