Deal: Milwaukee M12 Hackzall Bonus Kit and Impact Driver Kit for $99 (each)

Milwaukee M12 Hackzall and Flashlight Bonus Bundle

Over at Home Depot, there’s a new “Special Buy” combo right now. They’re offering a Milwaukee M12 Hackzall combo kit for just $99. That’s a pretty good deal, as the 2420-21 Hackzall kit looks to normally sell for $129 through some dealers and $139 from Home Depot. A couple of other Milwaukee tool dealers are also carrying the kit for $99, and so I’m thinking it’s a new seasonal promotion.

But wait, there’s more. Home Depot’s Special Buy combo also includes a Milwaukee 49-24-0145 worklight, which normally sells for around $20 to $25.

So you get a decent compact reciprocating saw, complete with a charger and battery, and a bonus worklight, for $99.

This is a 1-battery kit.

BUT, there’s a catch. Before you get all excited about the deal, keep in mind that the worklight has a Xenon bulb, and not LED. Xenon bulbs have a couple of benefits over LED emitters, but LED emitters have far more advantages and are generally more preferred. Don’t let the free bonus worklight be the deciding factor with this deal.

Milwaukee M12 Impact Driver Kit Deal

Milwaukee M12 2462 Impact Driver kit

Milwaukee’s newest brushed motor M12 impact driver kit is also on sale for $99, and will remain at this price thru 7/30/2015.

It’s their latest model that sports updated ergonomics and specs – check out our Milwaukee M12 drill and driver preview post for more details. You can’t really get any better than this at the ~$100 price point.

This is a 2-battery kit.

Both deals are listed as online only promos, but you get both ship to home and ship to store options. Shipping is free.

The other catch is that hackzall is garbage. PVC is about all it can muster. The Fuel version, while larger, makes it into an actual tool. The original has such a short stroke that it just pushes things back and forth at a high rate of speed.

Not true. With the right blades, they can do a lot. I took my brushed m12 hackzall to a junkyard a few weeks ago, and with a Lenox blade, cut through a couple tie rods.

Good to know. I was debating between this hackzall, or getting the Bosch 12v or the Fuel 12v instead.

My (brushed) hackzall works great. But if I was purchasing today, I’d spend the extra 40 bucks and get the new Fuel technology. Mainly because you are going to own the tool most likely for years, you won’t remember the price difference, but you’ll have the better tool.

We got our first Hackzall about 7 years ago – and I thought it was a toy. The plumbing crews loved them – we ended up buying 11 more (one on each truck). Now, while the plumbing guys don’t use them for cutting through cast iron drain pipe – they are great for cutting out smaller lines, toilet bolts etc. , particularly in tight spaces.

How long did that take? Hours? Days? Weeks? 🙂

I tried cutting a sheet metal door skin and it didn’t have enough torque to keep the blade moving. Tried cutting some small branches and took about a minute for a 2″ diameter branch. I bought a variety pack of the Milwaukee blades, maybe that was my first mistake.

So its the wrong tool for the jobs you threw at it and its not even close to being an all-purpose tool. But as I commented our guys loved them for cutting through small diameter copper water lines, plastic or thin brass drain lines and brass toilet bolts where space was tight and a big sawzall would be cumbersome.

BTW – furriers in my neck of the woods use doors and enclosures made up of many layers of thin galvanized sheet metal supported by thin strips of Masonite staggered at different spacing. I’m told it is nasty to cut – sawzall blades chatter rather than cut, too thick for a circular saw etc. The idea is that the multiple layers slow would-be thieves down enough to hopefully let the constabulary arrive.

Interesting. I’d love to see a cross-section of one of those doors.

I have to believe that flash light is not the LED model so they are clearing out old inventory. I actually have that light and it sits in the box it came in to this day. I don’t really care for non-LED lights

I think you’re correct – HD lists the flashlight as part # 49-24-0145 – which is not the LED version (49-24-0146)

I put a LED replacement bulb/light in it. Its not as bright as a normal LED, but you get the crisp white light still.

The lights have been $14-15 on clearance in many stores for awhile. With the provided Xenon bulbs, they suck. I think the brushed Hackzall is great, and the 2462 1/4″ hex impact is really nice for what it is.

I put a NiteEyes led replacement bulb in my MW flashlight – it’s now got a bright, decent beam and no need to worry about drops or impacts and battery life is great.

Felt stupid buying a $14 bulb for a $14 flashlight (clearance at HD), but I won’t bother with a flashlight unless it’s led and this one has a good form factor.
