Deal: Wera Advent Calendar (2016) is Still Available!

Wera 2016 Advent Calendar

Wera’s 2016 advent tool calendar is still available! I ordered one, and it arrived yesterday!

Here’s the catch – you’ve got to order from Amazon DE.

Wera 2016 Advent Calendar Tools

I just popped a few slots open, and good news – the Phillips drivers have Lasertip tips, which are laser-roughened grooves that bite into fasteners for strong non-magnetic grip. The slotted drivers don’t have these tips, but appear to be heavy duty “Kraftform Plus” screwdrivers.

Wera Kraftform 300 Series Plus Anti-Cam-Out Phillips

This is the tip of my Wera screwdriver from several years ago. The grooves on the new driver I received are MUCH more pronounced.

You get a nice selection of screwdrivers, including 2 mini drivers, and a bottle opener. Additional accessories include a holder and a screw retention gripper (not shown above).

Wera 2016 Advent Calendar Bit Check

And… you get a Rapidaptor bit holder, several screwdriver bits, including diamond-coated ones, and a bit case.

I bought a Wera advent set a few years ago, and the tools were a great complement to the Wera screwdrivers and tools I already had. I feel the same way about this set. It’s also kind of neat that the screwdrivers have special red-colored handles for the holidays, although I wish the heavy duty slotted drivers had a different color, as they usually do.

I have no need for the Pozidriv driver and bits, but maybe they’ll come in handy someday.

I believe I got my money’s worth on this set.

Price: 46.99 Euro, 39.49 Euro for US (non-European) buyers, 19.88 slow global shipping for 59.37 total, or 27.88 euro priority global shipping for 67.37.

Estimated Price: $64.15 or $72.79, depending on shipping method.

On previous orders, I paid in USD or local currency. On my recent Amazon UK and Amazon DE orders, I paid in local currency. I’ve been charged a foreign transaction fee by my credit card before, even when paying in USD, which is why I opted to pay in local currency. I ended up paying a little extra on the conversion fee (maybe 1%?) and my credit card company charges a 3% foreign transaction fee.

Anyways…

So I ordered the advent calendar as part of a larger order, with priority global shipping. If you buy just 1 advent calendar, the lowest price to your door is $64.15, which is around the same as it would have cost from KC Tool if it were still in stock.

I have only ordered from Amazon UK and DE with priority shipping. I figure that the less time the tools spend bouncing around the better. 2 wrench sets I just received had bounced out of their foam case and were all over the place in their boxes. I haven’t looked closely for damage yet, but imagine there would have been more clanging around if they shipped via the slower method.

But, these advent sets are pretty nicely protected. Each tool has a nice little compartment, and the advent calendar is in its own outer packaging box, which is shipped in an Amazon box. So… slow shipping *should* be okay. These tool sets look to be well protected.

If you’re just looking for screwdrivers, buy the regular Wera Kraftform set for $30 and change via Amazon.

But this set also comes with diamond-coated insert bits I’d been meaning to try, and an extra Rapidaptor.

I LOVE Wera’s Rapidaptor’s insert bit holder. But boy are they pricey on their own.

$65 is pretty steep, just looking at the number of tools. But if you could use everything, you get much more than your money’s worth. I think.

This is not the best option for one’s first Wera tool set, at least if you’re on a budget. It gives you a little of everything though, so maybe that does make it a good starter set?

I look at the price and find it hard to recommend. But… I thought it was a great enough deal to buy one for myself.

I did place an order large enough where global priority shipping was far less than the amount of money I saved on the tools.

Sorry for the digression, here’s the link:

Buy Now(via Amazon DE)
More Info(via KC Tool)

At the top of the page in the top menu, select EN from the little globe that says DE by default. Apparently so many people are ordering from Amazon DE, they added automatic translation options.

Google Chrome can also translate the page, but it breaks certain functionality, like the “add to cart” button.

I have placed 2 orders from Amazon DE so far, and 2 orders from Amazon UK. Each time, it makes me a little nervous, but so far the ordered arrived perfectly. I did pay extra for priority global shipping.

Aren’t the cross fasteners all Phillips?

most Euro screws are in Ponz for Euro use when it is for global market they use Torx or Phillips. FYI the Euro Phillips screw drivers are also JIS capable since the DIN standard removes the North American covex part of the tip .

Not at all. They are almost exclusively Pozi, which is almost everyone strips the heads.

I did not know that – I’ll try a Pozidriv driver next time.

I thought I was stripping/damaging the heads b/c they were made of soft metal.

Look for those 4 little hash marks on the screw head (between the recesses for the screwdriver tip). If you see that, put the PH driver down and get the PZ.

Would much prefer a set of Robertson’s to the Pozidriv, but that’s just me.

I saw some of those sets, but wasn’t compelled enough to order any of them.

My other recent Amazon UK and Amazon DE purchases are listed here: https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/tools-from-amazon-fall-2016/%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E

Quite a few new Wera acquisitions there.

I did read that write up, very well done as always, some excellent taste at work there. I have to say, I’m absolutely dying for that Bosch glue gun pen. It looks perfect for my needs.

So does the Sortimo selection. Oh heck. The entire list. I’m fine with a few duplicates that I already own.

I wish there was a way to get shipping a touch cheaper, but that’s not going to happen. It’s pretty unreasonably to think that would happen. I’m really on the fence for the Wera gift kit. I, like you, really want those bits. I’ve been using few of the Makita gold impact bits on my Kompakt 25 lately, and they are really very nice bits. I threw the very well rated Makita but holder with the (removable) magnetic sleeve on it in the pouch. It’s a solid carry with. Not for more reach, but it is quite a bit narrower for sneaking into places the Rapidadaptor can’t get.

Wiha also carries a few nice Micro Bit to 1/4″ adapters (Wiha 75802, 75803 and 75902) . Might order a few of those to see which I like, carrying a few Wiha Micro Bits with me could be really helpful.

Also been thinking of making a Micro Bit holder for the floor of the Wera Pouch. Figure some stiff wire, something akin to the strength of a paper clip, then molding Sugru around it.

I also own 3 or 4 Morakniv’s now thanks to you as well, can’t want to give them as gifts eventually. They are really an incredible value.

Thanks for the site as always. You’ll get through the kid stuff. I’m doing the same thing (might be a little different for me though). Word has it, apparently, people do this “have kids” thing and live through it all the time. Some days, not entirely sure I believe it 🙂

Surprised Wera still sell sets using the Philips form factor. Virtually obsolete in Europe these days.

I just bought this set. In the picture in front of the screwdrivers and just to the right of the bit set is a small black plastic item with red barbs. Anybody know what that is? TIA

I believe that’s a little fastener retaining magnet to slip on a driver.

Under Stuart’s recent post about the Felo bit holding screwdriver – I talked about these:

“Wera also makes attachments that add screw holding capability – their part #s 1440, 1441 and 1442 – to round-shank screwdrivers that they fit.”

They’re not magnetic – but rather plastic spring clips to retain screws.

      Fred pretty much nailed it.

I have one from a few years back. I haven’t been using it, but I briefly tested it and it seems to work as intended. It’s a nice little thingamajig to keep in one’s toolbox.

So I pulled the trigger on this today. I have been wanting a new rapidadapter. I have been wanting to try out their screwdrivers and don’t need a full set. I could use some chisel style flat screwdrivers, and I have been wanting to try out their diamond coated bits. Overall this hits pretty much every spot and for the cost is not any worse than buying their stuff separate. As a bonus I really like the colors of this kit as well. I am a little worried what with international ordering but we’ll see how that turns out. you can’t really break hand tools like these, and if you can just from shipping then I don’t really want to own them.
