Over at Home Depot, they’ve got the older DW745 10″ table saw on sale for $299 $225! There’s a new saw out now, the DWE7480, but the DW745 is a solid model that’s well regarded.
This deal has come around a couple of times over the years, and it’s an easy recommendation each time. The DW745 has a powerful motor, a great rack and pinion fence adjustment mechanism, and the one I tested a while back was nice and square right out of the box.

The DW745 comes with all of the standard features and safety guards you could expect. It doesn’t come with a stand – that’s an optional purchase with this model.
If you’re looking for a compact or portable table saw, this is still one of the better options on the market. If you want the latest and greatest, the DWE7480 is more expensive, at $329.
I initially thought that $299 might be the new permanent price for this saw, and that it would last until all remaining stock is sold out. It wasn’t in stock at Amazon in November, making me think that Home Depot’s inventory was old stock, but it is back in stock at Amazon and available for $274 out-the-door (plus tax). This makes it hard to tell if the saws are newly built or the last “new old stock” available from Dewalt distribution centers.
Now, it looks like this is a special buy. Home Depot probably won’t reduce the price further. At $225, these are likely going to sell out very quickly.

This is probably the best, most accurate compact portable table saw on the market. I prefer it over the Bosch because of the rack & pinion fence and ease of dialing accuracy in and repeatability. $299 is the lowest I see these go, while not a super low price but still very much worthwhile and a lot cheaper than the Bosch but for $30 bucks more maybe you should also check out her younger sister.

I forgot to add, While I think this makes the best cuts but it still does not accept Dado blades which is it’s only downfall; neither does it’s younger sister. The Bosch does accept dados but if you don’t need a dado, the Dewalt is better.

For $30 more, the extra rip capacity on the 7480 is probably worthwhile. I’m hoping they’ll have a clearance on these after Black Friday and sell the DW745 for $200-$250

Ugh. I just got home and came on here specifically to mention that I found one of the last $199 Ridgid table saws left over from Black Friday. Now I’m very seriously considering packing it back up and exchanging it for this one.

Tough pickle to be in. If you stick with the Ridgid, that means an extra $26 plus tax in your pocket that you could put towards a better or different blade.

It is a pickle to choose between two good deals. Does the orange support dado sets at all? The specs show 24″ rip capacity, which is nice. Maybe I should pick up a ridgid.

Get the Dewalt! Trust me, the fence on this is worth it alone over the Rigid. Used both and this is one thing Dewalt has done better than any other company. There is no doubt, the fence will be strait and spot on.

So no dado capability, and no half-width ripping of 4×8 sheets, but still a good saw? Sure is cheaper than the Bosch. I was thinking about building one of those Paulk Workbenches to go with this. I could do some dados with a router I guess.

My take on work site table saws is that they suffer as much from lack of table space in front and back of the blade as they do from lack of table (rip capacity) on either side. Building a workbench to surround the small saw – an possibly (accurately) extend its miter gauge slots would be a desirable thing to do.

I bought the DW745 at Home Depot in March for $225. The salesperson couldn’t tell me why the price had dropped so low, but I knew it was a great price and snapped up one of the two that were left. Was moving to a smaller place and decided to downscale (sold my Bosch jobsite saw with the gravity lift base). The DeWalt has met my needs, and the rack and pinion fence is indeed great. The only problem I’ve encountered is that the riving knives are not aligned properly — they’re offcenter by a couple of degrees, which translates to maybe 3-4mm where they touch the table surface. Because of this, one of the knives sometimes drops into the slot (“zero clearance slot”) by the blade, which jams things up pretty good. The riving knife is all one unit with the blade guard, and it there’s no adjustment on it. I suppose I could look into sending it in for warranty, but I haven’t looked into that as yet. All in all, I do recommend the saw. Not as full featured as the Bosch, but a more manageable size, and a better fence.

The miter gauge supplied with the DW745 is incredibly dinky. I’m pretty sure someone (besides Dewalt) makes a beefier gauge to fit this saw, and I plan to get one. If anyone knows of one, I’d appreciate hearing about it.

INCRA makes some really nice miter gauges (I bought one for my Bosch 4100). Kreg also makes miter gauges.

Well Stuart. I dropped the coin on this little guy. Your dead on about rip width….20″! I just got it out of the box, maybe ten minutes before writing this. Initial reaction….I downloaded the HD App to my iPad $10 coupon. Price…..$225 minus $10 coupon…..$215. No brainier. The plastic sides seem to be a blow molded soft plastic that is flexible. That should make it very durable. The throat plate has an index to remove it….super cool feature. This thing eschews quality. Which coming from me a die hard Festool guy is great. This’ll be my second Dewalt bench tool. I have the three bladed planer I bought through CPO Dewalt and I am really liking these. So much so I bought the DCD985 20v hammer drill to drill about forty tap cons last week. Man I hate to admit it but yellow is impressing me. Thanks for the heads up. I was going to wait or buy the Ridgid and although I think the Ridgid was good, the rack and pinion fence is awesome. Can’t wait to use it this weekend…I’m on vacation! Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah everybody!
