This is going to sound very strange, but I’m going to tell you about a deal that expired early on Monday.
I posted about Dewalt’s $20 off $100 promo, one of Amazon’s new Father’s Day discount deals. It was on sale for $110 after discount, which was a heck of a great price. Sometime after that post went up, Amazon sold out, and now the next lowest price is $144.

You get the new Dewalt 18V to 20V Max battery adapter, (2) 2.0Ah battery packs, and a charger. It’s a great way to breath new life into most of your Dewalt 18V tools.
If you missed out on the kit, and regret it, bookmark the link or add it to you cart and check on the price every couple of days. Once it’s back in stock, and once again sold directly by Amazon, that’ll be a good time to pounce.
The kit has a street price of $149, and if it comes back in stock during this promo period, it should drop down to $129 or less at checkout. You might not see the $110 after-discount price again, but $129 would still be better than $149. Anything less than $129 after discount is a bonus.
Check Now(via Amazon)
The $20 off $100+ promo ends 6/19/2016.
This all makes me wonder: How many of you 18V holdouts are already using the 18V to 20V Max battery adapter? Have you bought any 20V Max tools yet?

I have to say I’m glad it exists – because there are 2 tools I want but do not need that dewalt makes in 18V post style.
1) cordless grease gun. I know in my mind it’s just lazy, but it has to be handy as hell when working on older cars or the like. something that is in my “when I get free time” dream list.
2) cordless caulk gun. I used a ryobi one that a friend bought and I was sold on the idea. I hate caulk, I hate caulking – but the motor drive and the self back off and etc – makes it a bit more tolerable.
RAK
Not sure if you’ve seen it, but there’s a 20v Max greasegun. I’ve seen the kit version at Tractor Supply and a bare tool at Sears.
Nathan
yes but I’m a cheap bastid and hoping to get the older model on the cheap end of life.
Tim
Cordless grease guns are not lazy. They’re a godsend and make life a million times easier and me about 5 times more productive.
Tim
My local runnings has a whole shelf full of these adapter kits.

It’s about time a manufacturer offers a path like this. (I know the offering itself is not a new announcement, just saying.)
I think there could be a company whose entire existence would be just offering top-quality battery packs and cross-brand adapters for cordless tools. As well as a “corded” adapter which would simply look like a 18v battery, but have a transformer in it with a 120v cord coming out of it.

I bought one of these after waiting so long for Dewalt to come out with a LiOn adapter… and then had to return it. The adapter is not compatible with their nailers… the one tool in my arsenal that I wanted such an adapter for. For drills, jigsaw, rotary tools, the bare kit items are typically at a price point where I can see switching them out for a newer LiOn tool, to take advantage of the brushless motors now available, etc. But nailers are damned expensive, even as a bare kit, so that I can’t justify replacing them until the motor dies. So I returned this kit and bought two cheap third party NiCads for a third the cost.
This has really got me kind of pissed off at Dewalt, so when it does come time to replace my 608 brad nailer, I’m probably going to look at what the red or even orange team are offering (Ridgid does really seem to be stepping up their game, with some really interesting offerings).
Nathan
How does it not work with the nailer? doesn’t physically fit?
Jarsiri
Same ? as Nathan..does it not physically fit my nailer and hammer drill with 750 uwo are my only legacy 18v tools and I’m about to get the newer hammer drill with even more power
john
Can anyone advise if these will fit the 14.4volt Nicad tools?

Hoping on some opinions. I have the 18v kit with circular, sawzall, and drill. Everything works perfectly. Still have two 18v batteries that never have failed yet.
So the two things that are in play are:
1. The drill with 18v nicad is so dang heavy. I’m ready for a compact drill with 20v battery.
2. The 18v batteries will go out at some point! (Hopefully not soon)
So my two thoughts are: I can buy the adapter for about $124 after discount, and then a bare drill in the $99 range or buy a drill kit with 2 batteries for say $150 and then then buy the adapter by itself for about $50.
I think the costs bare pretty close both ways, but maybe it’s not an apples to apples comparison on what drill and what size batteries I can get in the 2 scenarios. I’m not too picky on the drill other than something lightweight and with some good battery amperage.
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I picked this up the other day (June 4th) for $129+tax. 2 of my 4 18V batteries are dead and they are just damn heavy too. Can’t wait to get the new 20V batteries in and try them out.
Boipp
Yeah I use one on an XRP drill and a light I’ve had for years.
I bought the C2 Drill kit and an 886 brushless impact in 20V
The old XRP is reserved for drilling concrete and the light is in da barn.
The other 2 pieces sport 5.0 batteries.
