I am sure you already saw mention of Dewalt’s $20 off $100 promo in my Father’s Day 2016 deal post, but I wanted to spin it off into its own discussion. I will be doing the same for some of the other power tool brand promo deals.
This deal comes around twice a year – around the winter holidays and then again in mid-May for Father’s Day. This time around, it ends June 19th, 2016.

There’s no need to rush into things, this deal will be around for a few weeks. Popular tools might sometimes sell out, but that should only result in delayed shipping.
I take advantage of deals like this to stock up on ToughSystem tool boxes, which as of the time of this posting do NOT seem to be eligible for the deal. I’m not seeing a $20 discount at checkout. Bummer.
And I also stock up on power tool accessories, and I would buy a couple of battery packs if I didn’t already have plenty.
Less often than power tool accessories, I’ll use holiday discounts as the final push to get me to buy a new corded or cordless power tool or fixture. Clamps and tool stands are also eligible for the $20 off $100+ savings.
It’s a great time to buy some bare tools too, if you already have a charger and batteries from a kit.
Actually, it can be a good time to buy into the platform. Dewalt’s premium saw kit is priced at $259, or $239 after discount. Or, you can buy the bare tool for $99 after discount, and a 5.0Ah starter set – not sold by Amazon direct at the moment, for $120.

Alternatively, there’s a double charger with 4.0Ah battery for $139 after discount, and 18V adapter starter set with charger and (2) 2.0Ah batteries for $110 after discount.
You could buy a 5.0Ah battery pack for $119, or 2 for $159 (sorry, the 2-pack isn’t eligible, but be glad it’s not back to $199), and there are 2 charger options, one eligible for the discount, and the other not.
You get the idea – you can sometimes piece-together a kit for less than the price of a kit, if you don’t mind the absence of a fitted hard shell case.
I’m not sure if I’ll be buying anything this time around. We’re still unpacking, which makes it tough to take inventory of what I might need or not need to replenish accessories-wise.
Will you be buying any new Dewalt tools during this promo period?
Travis
I think I am going to pick up the favorably reviewed DeWalt 8″ Dado set. Waiting for it to drop back down to $115 before I purchase.
fred
The Dewalt set does indeed get good reviews and at $95 it would be about the same price as the Freud 8 inch set
For jobsite saws we were happy with the smaller (less motor load) Freud 6 inch set – that that is on sale at Peachtree Woodworking for $77 with free shipping – after the $10 off Memorial Day Sale

I wish the 20 for 100 stacked for each 100 increment, but I didn’t see that happen in my cart. I’m really interested to see the actual size of the new dewalt backpack blower, whether it fits a tall person, and if the trigger grip actually reaches my hand or if the flexible extension hose from the backpack to the trigger trip is too short for my arm.

I also have several 12v items (from what I’m told dewalt has abandoned) but I’ve been eyeing the compact reciprocating saw for quick cuts around the garage without having to break out my much heavier cordless makita one. Anyone have thoughts on this model?

It you want to check out the backpack blower, try Lowes. Not every store has them, but I’ve seen a few on display.
Stuart
That 12V saw is a great model, should serve your “quick here and there” cutting needs well.

I may take advantage of this; still need to add some cutting tools to my DeWalt collection. I’ve accumulated a number of their tools since January and have only rarely paid retail:
Bluetooth speaker: $39
20v Max brushless kit with compact hammer drill, impact driver, light, and large ToughSystem box: $222
Brushless blower kit: $144
String trimmer kit: $144
Handheld area light: $60 or so
12v Max screwdriver kit: $90
Drywall screwgun w/free collated screw adapter: $199
Dual-port charger with 4Ah battery: $94
2-pack of 4Ah batteries: $117
Needless to say, I’m a fan of their cordless tools. One or two saws may be getting ordered soon.

I wish Dewalt would just do 20% off, so some of those higher priced tools would be more affordable. On the other hand I understand the more expensive tools have less margin.

Where’s my brushless 20Max circular saw? waaaaaaaaa
If they had that, and if they let me use the $20 on the ToughSystem cart, I’d probably be all in.
BillyFletch99
Been waiting a long time for the brushless circular saw. Don’t know how much longer I can hold out.
Anyone have any suggestions if I should keep waiting

Well if the Toughsystem was eligible I would probably get two small boxes and something else. I hope people are using the camelcamelcamel google chrome extension when they are shopping on Amazon. Sometimes Amazon likes to do a price increase of certain tools before the sale goes on to try and make you think like you’re getting a bargain.
Stuart
I hope not – certain Chrome extensions can hijack and rewrite ToolGuyd links.
As for price increases, I’ve seen this on photography products, such as cameras and lenses, and the explanation is that certain manufacturer promos can only be applied if MAP or MSRP pricing is adhered to. Maybe the same is true with some of these brand promos.
Amazon’s pricing algorithms also tend to be automatic. If a tool starts selling well under a promo period, it might increase in price, reversing a price drop that occurred during a previous low interest and low demand price drop.
For some SKUs, maybe they do jack up the price ahead of a promo period. It’s impossible to tell one way or another.
Diplomatic Immunity
I meant when they are Amazon shopping in general not when they are going through your tool links. Even for stuff like tvs you can get a nice instant price history chart showing highs and lows.
Stuart
Good point.
I will sometimes check price trackers for big ticket items, but it can get fuzzy. They don’t often show rebates, and not all price reductions show up.
The the Dewalt 20V Max circular saw, for example, ASIN B007NVSTO8. It’s $119 right now, minus $20 discount = $99.
The price tracker shows it as being $119 right now, and that it dipped to around $110 very temporarily back in March.
So if you were waiting around for a price tracker to tell you that this saw was on sale, you’d be missing out.
If I really want to wait for something to be on sale, I add it to my cart, save it for later, and check my cart every so often.
Matt
I see the Bosch $20 off $100 deal is back, but does not seem to be covering many of the items I’m interested in — plunge router, hole saw set, dust extractor, etc.
Lukas
Anyone know if the DeWalt 20 off 100 deal is good at Lowes?
