Dewalt 20V Max 5-Tool Combo Kit Deal (4/20/2015)

Corey also wrote in about a deal this morning. Over at Home Depot, today only, this Dewalt 20V Max 5-tool combo kit is on sale for $299, from its listed regular price of $399.

On sale is the Dewalt DCK530DM2 combo, which comes with a DCD785 compact hammer drill (which we reviewed here), DCF885 impact driver, DCS381 reciprocating saw, DCS393 6-1/2″ circular saw, and DCL040 LED worklight. The bundle includes a soft carrying case, and what looks to be their 20V/12V Max charger, a 2.0Ah compact Li-ion battery pack, and a 4.0Ah extended capacity Li-ion battery pack.

There’s no explicit mention that the two included battery packs have 2.0Ah and 4.0Ah capacities, but the XR branding and color scheme indicate that they probably are 2.0Ah And 4.0Ah batteries. Dewalt 1.5Ah and 3.0Ah batteries look quite a bit different.

Overall, this looks to be a good combo at a great price, but there are a few caveats. The reciprocating saw and circular saw are both cheapified models, for lack of a better word. The circular saw has a basic shoe, and not the 3-dimensional magnesium shoe of the premium DCS391 model, and the reciprocating saw lacks the extendable shoe and multi-directional blade clamp as the premium DCS380 model. The DCS381 can only accepts blades in up or down orientation, while the DCS380 saw’s blade clamp can hold blades horizontally as well. We wrote about this before.

If you want a kit that comes with the premium saws, prepare to spend a lot more. But if you want great bang for the buck, this is a good combo kit for $299. Last winter, during the holiday shopping season, there was a similar combo for the same price, but it came with the premium circular saw and 2 compact batteries instead of 1 compact and 1 extended capacity.
