Dewalt Cordless Power Tool Battery Deal Black Friday 2020

There is a very good deal on Dewalt 20V Max cordless power tool batteries for Black Friday 2020!

Let’s face it, cordless power tool battery packs are an expensive necessity for everyone that uses cordless power tools. If you’ve got to buy new battery packs, it’s at least less painful on your wallet when they’re on sale.

There are lots of reasons why you might have to buy new batteries, whether you’re looking for longer runtime, the ability to operate several tools without having to swap batteries back and forth, or maybe it’s time replace aged battery packs.

Batteries do wear out and are considered consumables after all.

We posted about Home Depot’s Black Friday 2020 tool deals, and there’s deal pricing on a Dewalt 20V Max 2Ah, 4Ah, and 6Ah bundle set.

Price: $149
SKU: DCB346-3

Greg wanted to know if it’s a good deal:

Stuart, is that 2/4/6AH DeWalt 20V battery pack a good deal for $150? I need to pick up some spares this year.

Since this is a rather unique combo pack deal, it’s hard to compare it against past deals. So, I decided to take a look at other current pricing examples.

Additionally, Home Depot looks to be the only store stocking this particular battery bundle, DCB346-3.

Here, I’ll analyze the value of this deal to the best of my ability.

  • Dewalt 2Ah 2-pack: $79 via Amazon
  • Dewalt 2Ah 2-pack +  4Ah 2-pack: $179 via Amazon
  • Dewalt 5Ah 2-pack: $159 via Amazon
  • Dewalt 6Ah 2-pack: $163 via Amazon
  • Dewalt 3Ah compact 2-pack: $99 via Amazon
  • Dewalt 4Ah compact 2-pack: $129 via Amazon

Let’s say you wanted (2) 2Ah batteries, (2) 4Ah batteries, and (2) 6Ah batteries. Going with the 2Ah and 4Ah 4-battery bundle pack and 6Ah battery 2-pack would provide the best pricing – $342.

Thus, the best pricing you could find on a 2Ah, 4Ah, and 6Ah battery bundle right now would be half of that, or $171, assuming you split it with a friend or similar.

The Home Depot Dewalt 20V Max Black Friday deal bundle is priced at $149.

For the sake of simplicity, let’s forget about all context and just look at price per amp-hour or charge capacity.

The 2Ah 2-pack and 4Ah 2-pack bundle of 4 batteries gives you a total of 12Ah charge capacity for $179. That comes out to be $14.92 per amp-hour/

The 3Ah compact battery 2-pack deal offers decent pricing too, giving you 6Ah of total charge capacity for $99. That’s $16.5 per amp-hour. A 5Ah battery 2-pack is $159, for $15.9 per amp-hour.

For this Black Friday deal, you get 2 + 4 + 6 Ah = 12 Ah total, for $149. That’s $12.42 per amp-hour.

I think this is a very good deal.

Should you buy it? That’s a different question. If you use a couple of different Dewalt 20V cordless power tools, the compact 2Ah battery is well suited for smaller and lighter duty tools, the 4Ah battery is going to be a good match for compact or heavier duty tools, and the 6Ah battery is going to be well-suited for your heavier duty and more demanding tools.

These are not Dewalt’s highest capacity 20V Max cordless power tool batteries. However, their 8Ah battery is $145 and up by itself.

Would you rather have the longest runtime and charge capacity possible? Or the lowest charge capacity costs?

Last year, the Dewalt 20V Max (4) battery bundle deal (2 each of 2Ah and 4Ah) was a Black Friday special buy at $159. With this deal, you get 3 batteries, including a high output 6Ah battery, for 12Ah total and a lower price of $149.

It’s not a very apples-to-apples comparison, but is as close as possible.

This is the best Dewalt battery deal we’ve come across for Black Friday 2020 so far. There’s always the chance of a deal on 5Ah batteries, but there’s now way to predict that. But, hopefully you’ll find this post helpful in your research and shopping efforts.

If You Don’t Need All That…

Dewalt 20V Max 3Ah Battery 2-Pack

The Dewalt 20V Max 3Ah 2-pack deal is a holiday season regular. This year, it’s a little different – rather than featuring the usual 10-cell battery pack, it’s the compact 3Ah battery that’s on sale.

As Dewalt puts it simply, this compact 3Ah battery is lighter and shorter than their DCB200 3Ah battery, but still manages to deliver the same runtime and power.

With these being built with larger Li-ion cells than the 2Ah battery pack, it’s going to be a little larger than Dewalt’s lower capacity compact batteries. The compromise can be worth it – while slightly larger in place of a 1.5Ah or 2Ah capacity battery, you get longer runtime. Plus, you can also use this on heavier duty Dewalt tools, such as saws, although don’t forget you’re only getting 3Ah or charge capacity.

Price: $99

Looking at costs per amp-hour of charge capacity, this 2-pack of 3Ah batteries comes out to be $16.50 per amp-hour. That’s a bit higher than for the above deal, but also consider Dewalt’s compact 2Ah battery. Priced at $79 for the 2-pack via Amazon, the cost here comes out to be $19.75 per amp-hour.

If you want the smallest and lightest compact battery possible, the 2Ah will be the better choice over the compact 3Ah. The 3Ah wins favor if you want longer runtime in a compact package and also the ability to use it with higher power tools that are not typically paired with the compact 1.5Ah and 2.0Ah batteries.

Not as diverse of a selection of batteries, but Farm & Fleet has the 2pk of the FlexVolt 9.0Ah (DCB609-2) on sale for $209, which is around $11.61/Ah. This Sunday they have their rewards member sale for an additional 10% off (in store only), which brings it down to around $188 or $10.45/Ah. I may be picking up a few packs then.

If you prefer a mix of smaller/medium sized, the 2/4/6 combo is probably the way to go though.

Also, CPO Outlet, MaxTool, Factory Authorized Outlet have a “buy 2 get 1 free” deal on select DeWalt tools and batteries – buy two 12.0Ah DCB612 at $199ea get a free 2pk of 5.0Ah DCB205-2. That’s 34Ah for $398, around $11.71/Ah.

FAO and MaxTool are currently sold out of the DCB612, don’t know when/if they’ll get more in.

That looks like a very good deal too, thank you! I added that to the post as well.

There are other choices as well, such as a free bonus 8Ah battery.

Thanks! I added that to the post.

It’s $209 + $6.95 shipping, but that’s still quite a bit lower than at other retailers right now.

I just bought the Dewalt OMT kit (small battery), and the 18-gauge nailer (tool only). I think I’m gonna pick up the 2-pack of 3ah batteries.

Two notes on the HD Dewalt battery offers.

I have seen the 2/4/6ah pack with 4 and 6ah batteries that appear, based on size, to be the versions with the newer 21700 cells, rather than the older 18650 cells. That’s a bit of a guess but the physical size of the shell is probably a decent indicator.

Some of the buy one-get something else “free” deals at HD actually subtract from the price of the tool or battery that you’re buying. As an example, if you buy the starter battery kit with bag, charger and 4 + 6ah batteries and then add the 5ah battery, the cost rings up at $150-something, subtracting some pro-rated portion of the cost of the 5ah battery – rather than ringing up the $199 cost of the battery kit. I don’t know if this is a glitch or intentional, but it’s been that way for a week or more and HD usually fixes actual errors very promptly. The same thing happens with the DCD991 drill kit.

I haven’t compared the cost of a 4+6+5ah set of batteries bought that way. It is probably close to the 2+4+6 kit on a $/ah basis.

This particular 2Ah/4Ah/6Ah kit (DCB346-3) has the 2p 18650 based DCB204 for the 4Ah battery.

The other kit they have on special right now that you mentioned, the starter 4Ah/6Ah/charger kit (DCB246CK) has the 1p 21700 based 4Ah DCB240.

      Both have the same 2p 21700 based 6Ah DCB206.

I think this is as good a deal as it gets for Dewalt. It’s directly comparable to the 2×2Ah 2x4Ah pack. In years past that was the $150 black friday deal, I picked it up in 2018 for that price. It’s been $149 and $159 several times since. As Stu pointed out it both are 12Ah, the current one, in three batteries, the old set in four batteries. One has an extra battery, one has a longer lasting battery. It’s this year’s Dewalt 12Ah for $150 black friday/holiday deal, which is about as good as it gets at any time for any brand.

One little typo: “Dewakt 4Ah compact 2-pack: $129 via Amazon”

I keep hoping the power station comes back down to the $300 range it hit for a while a couple of years ago, as that plus one of these deals with the larger batteries would be a nice pick-up over the Black Friday shopping season.

      Thank you! *fixed*

I’ll keep an eye on the power station. Looking at it now – WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE?!

The kit used to be $499, but now that’s the price for the bare tool?!

Exactly! It’s sort of crazy compared to other “battery generators” on the market right now.

The cheapest you can get it is $399 for the bare tool at Fleet Farm, and you get a $50 gift card. So basically $349. Which is still crazy, I bought it there on sale for $199 just last September (actually $179 with a 10% off “buy online pick up in store” coupon). I still kick myself for not buying another one for the cabin.

I’ve been getting the Home Depot deal where you get a 6.0 + 4.0 CP starter kit with charger and case, plus a free tool, for $199. Sold off the extras from two kits (XR Jigsaw and XR cordless router) and came in around $80 for each 10 Ah of battery. Now I’m drowning in batteries.

Return the Batteries to Home Depot. They will let you keep the Jigsaw and Router. However they will only refund you the “Refundable amount” stated on the receipt for the batteries. Take a look, you can make the call. 🙂

Some people apparently feel that buying with the intent of returning (AK “the hack”) is unethical. I don’t agree, but I try to limit how much I return stuff. Someone got an XR jigsaw for a hundred bucks so everyone wins.

      Sweet!

Home Depot has the same deal right now, and it looks like their new brushless 6-1/2″ saw is back in stock too, as well as the router. Other brushless tool freebies include a 3/8″ impact wrench and jig saw.
