Over at Home Depot, they have started to carry the new Dewalt DCS387 20V Max cordless compact reciprocating saw as part of a special ToughSystem tool box bundle, model DCSTS387L1. I couldn’t find any other retailer that offers this particular kit, which means it could be a Home Depot exclusive.

This ToughSystem bundle comes with the compact saw, a charger, a 3.0Ah Li-ion battery pack, and the “small” sized tool case. I put the small in quotes because it’s actually a nice-sized tool box.
I’m a big fan of Dewalt’s ToughSystem tool boxes, and in the time since my review of the small ToughSystem case, I have only grown fonder. The number of ToughSystem cases in my possession has also grown, thanks to holiday-timed Dewalt discounts on Amazon. I’ll probably pick up a couple more in coming weeks.
This particular combo kit is priced at $199. Other distributors will soon be carrying the DCS387P1 kit, which will be priced at ~$250. The DCS387P1 kit comes with the same tool and charger, but is bundled with a higher capacity 5.0Ah battery instead of 3.0Ah, and a soft carrying case instead of the ToughSystem tool box.
If you can work with the 3.0Ah battery, this ToughSystem bundle is an appealing deal since you get a tough tool box and an extra $50-$60 to keep in your wallet. On the other hand, the 5.0Ah battery pack included in the P1 bundle should provide for ~67% more runtime than the 3.0Ah pack.

There’s only one other Dewalt 20V cordless kit that comes with a bundled ToughSystem tool case in the USA, and that’s the $199 DCD771 drill and DCF885 impact driver special bundle. Hopefully this is the start of a trend of special ToughSystem cordless kit bundles that Dewalt plans to continue.

Saw this briefly yesterday, but was hurried and didn’t have time for an in-depth look at the package through the security device wrapped around these saws. Wonder if the 3.0 battery in this bundle has the battery status LEDs?

I would really like to see the inside of this case, both to see if it is molded for the saw, and if so, is there a spot for an additional battery?

There is an insert to hold the tool I think. I was looking at the tough boxes the other day and saw one with a charger inside.

Comes with a molded case that fits the charger, saw with battery, and a spare slot for a extra battery. Has a top tray that hold all of you blades small parts, great deal wish all dewalt tools had this option

I love the fact that it comes with tough boxes. It a bit of a bummer that its contented to a 3ah pack. Maybe Dewalt is trying to get rid of a supply of the somewhere 🙂

Im sure 3.0 ah will work for me, currently im using the 12v one but run time and power leaves the job half done. Tough case sells it all.

Just picked this up from Home Depot. I didn’t see it mentioned in the article, but it also comes with a molded insert for the Tough Case similar to the Bosch Exact-Fit trays only it’s much more rugged than the Bosch. The insert has recesses for the saw, the battery and the charger.
