New Dewalt 20V Max Pivoting Head LED Worklight! (DCL044)

Dewalt DCL044 LED Worklight

Dewalt’s 12V Max pivoting head LED worklight, currently $33 via Amazon, is one of the best designs out there.

We’ve heard requests for a 20V Max version numerous times, and it seems that Dewalt has heard the same.

So… good news – there’s now a 20V Max version of the pivoting head worklight!

We know enough about the Dewalt DCL044 worklight for a quick introductory post, but you’ll have to wait on pricing, availability, and runtime specs.

I also need to check on the output specs.

In the intro view, below, where a product manager walked us through the new worklight at Dewalt’s 2016 new tool media event, he says it’s more powerful, but also says it delivers 130 lumens of illumination.

That’s the same rating as the 12V Max version. Maybe the head unit on this 20V Max LED worklight is more focused, but I wouldn’t think so.

On the side of the unit it says that the worklight is rated to IP55 standards. Unless IP55 means something else, that suggests the DCL044 LED worklight should be fairly water resistant.

Here’s the intro video:

As with the 12V Max version, the new DCL044 LED worklight has a pivoting and rotating head, a magnetic mount, and a hanging hook. It also has a belt clip and user-replaceable lens, just in case you break it.

Price: $59
ETA: Fall 2016

First Thoughts

I didn’t have a chance to spend more than a fleeting moment with the new Dewalt DCL044 LED worklight, but it looks to offer all the greatness of the 12V Max worklight, plus a little more.

I have really been liking Bosch’s Fl12 12V Max LED worklight, and have more than once wished for a Dewalt version. The magnetic mounting makes it much easier to keep at reach.

All I can say is… it’s about time!

The pricing is uncertain, but I’d think that $39 would be a good price, and maybe $49 would be acceptable.

I must say, this is quite exciting, I have several of the 12V lights and I love them and use them all the time. The only thing that concerns me is the placement of the belt clip. I understand the need for it being on the front with the different size 20V batteries, but I feel it may not work very well on the belt as it looks like it will not be balanced very well especially with the larger size of the light. This light should be priced at $39 since it does nothing more than what the 12V light does.

With that being said, this only makes me wonder, WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON WITH THE 12V LINE???

I’ve got to agree, I hoped to pickup a few more of the 12V max, the 12v impact driver is perfect in so many ways, compact, convient and lightweight, I use it 95% on house and auto projects. I find that my larger DeWalt impacts can be to powerful at times on projects and can sink screw heads far to easy if your not constantly vigilant.

I love the 12V LED between that and the 12V they get pretty regular use, hopefully the new LED will be part of 20V combo kits or as a free add-on. I would pay $39 but $49 gives me pause.

Definitely a re-boot of the 12v light, which I have to say is the best of their 12v lineup. I use that thing all the time. But as Dewalt has almost abandoned their 12v lineup, I will buy this after my 12v version dies.

My present all time fave little carry/trouble lights.

I was able to get these a year and half ago at a Bosch display even before Amazon listed and they are so damn useful! It’s the best. Only a Streamlight is in my main VetoProPac. All I need. Very tough to top.

Not to split hairs because I’ll probably be an owner when they come out but how’s the magnet supposed to work with larger 3.0+ battery packs?

My guess is it just doesn’t. But good thing it pivots.

same here unless you just have a short tang of metal you’re trying to put it on.

It’s supposed to run quite some time so I doubt you’d really run it on the larger batteries. I know I want one though.

now if we can just convince them to rig up a headlamp. I’d LOVE to get a proper good headlamp that would plug in a dewalt battery pack. I mean I like the ones I have -but it would be so awesome to use the battery set I currently have.

Clip on top so it doesn’t scratch surfaces you set it on, this is good. Hope magnets are stronger too!

    130 lumens? Why so little?

It’s a work light, so it’s about useful light output for working, not blinding, glaring light that washes everything out.

130 lumens is not enough for a work light. Sure that’s fine for under a cabinet, but not enough if you need to light up a wall. There’s no reason it couldn’t be built like modern flashlights with a few modes at various brightness levels so you can adjust the light to what you need. With the battery packs you could easily run 1000 lumens for 8 hours. And have a 2000+ lumen mode for shorter periods of time. Then they could have a couple more levels around 90 and 500 lumens. That way the user would have a choice, instead of being stuck with 10 year old LED technology.

this is meant more for a spot light and a local area useage – not a light up the whole room.

for that you want the DCL061 – which by the way is an awesome product. or the 060 but I like having the ability to use the cord when I want to

130 lumens is still a lot of light.

But if it doesn’t suit your needs, Dewalt and other brands have brighter worklights.

This flashlight is way better then the other ones from the past. It’s LED’s are very bright, and the head of the flashlight swivels. So you can adjust it to any angle.

Why is this light not available in Europe?
We have the 12 volt version.
But that’s a little stupid when you have everything else running on 18 volt batteries.
Looking to buy it on Ebay in the US, and have it shipped to me.
