Home Depot has kicked off a new Dewalt promo, where you get a free PowerStack battery and charger starter kit with the purchase of select 20V Max bare tools.
I took advantage of a similar deal recently, and although my new jig saw has yet to arrive, I think I will be very satisfied with my purchasing decision.
If you recall, the new Dewalt PowerStack battery is engineered with a stack of lithium-ion pouch-type battery cells, as opposed to the cylindrical cells found in typical cordless power tool batteries.

In a nutshell, the Dewalt PowerStack battery is smaller and lighter compared to their other compact 20V Max batteries, while also delivering 50% more power. It is also said to deliver twice the lifespan.
The first PowerStack battery is pricey, with a very high cost per amp-hour.
But where runtime is not a top consideration, the PowerStack battery is a compact and lightweight powerhouse.
The PowerStack battery seems like a perfect match for smaller and lighter tools, such as the new Atomic 3-speed impact driver shown above.
There are quite a few 20V Max cordless power tool options with this promo:
Atomic 3-Speed Impact Driver Bundle
Atomic Reciprocating Saw Bundle
Atomic Hammer Drill Bundle
Drywall Screwgun Bundle
Brushless Rotary Hammer Bundle
Brushless Barrel-Grip Jig Saw Bundle
1/4 Sheet Sander Bundle
Compact XR Reciprocating Saw Bundle
Brushless Circular Saw Bundle
Angle Grinder Bundle

The 20V Max PowerStack compact battery and starter kit retails for $149. The PowerStack battery retails for $119 individually and $179 for a 2-pack.
If you were looking to buy one of these Dewalt 20V Max cordless power tools, this might be a good promo to consider.
There’s no indication on Home Depot’s website as to when this promo is set to end.
In case I missed one:

I went with lowes sine it comes with two batts.
Ben
I dont see any combo at Lowes with 2 Powerstack batteries, they all only include 1 battery? Link?
MM
If you look at the listing for the 2-pack of PowerStack batteries you can get a “Free gift” with purchase. Then it lets you select a tool.

Thanks, too bad they dont have the combo for the Atomic Impact though which is the tool I wanted.
Stuart
Atomic is Home Depot-exclusive. It’s also sold at independent dealers, but I haven’t seen the 2-battery promo outside of Lowe’s yet.
Big Richard
@Stuart, FAO/Max Tool has the two battery deal as well.
Gene
Got my 2 batteries for little over $200.00 with my Lowes card and got the jigsaw (199.00 value) free this added to my Dewalt tool collection, best deal since I payed 399.00 at Lowe’s and got 7 power tools with 2 chargers and 2 batteries in a large rolling case….
Bill
Did the Lowes deal come with a charger too/
Stuart
No.

@TimL thanks for the Lowe’s recommendation. I got the two pack of batteries with the compact recip saw for only $20 more than one battery. I wish there was an affil link for that one.
I am not fully convinced that a 1.7Ah battery is really going to perform like a 2.5-3Ah battery, but we’ll see. Since I normally use 5/6Ah batteries on my impact drivers, I’d love to see 50% more capacity than those, then it would be more useful … I sometimes drive enough fasteners to need a couple battery changes off the 5Ah.
I probably should have asked when the compact XR reciprocating saw was discussed, but the Dewalt lady on Lowes insists that it has a 4-way blade holder like the other Dewalt saws (except the one-hander, which is why I am asking, because missing that 4-way function is a big letdown on that saw). The pictures sure look like it is only two-way, like every other twist-lock blade holder. If only Dewalt would put the saw on the US web site (it’s on the CA one), or post the manual on the site or HD/Lowes…
Big Richard
It is not a 4 way blade clamp, and its manual is on their servicenet website:

Franck B.
Thanks! I don’t know why they can’t just put the manual link on the product page like most of the others. I hit my limit of looking three places for the manual (when I should only have to check one).
I guess this is why I’ll now have four yellow/black reciprocating saws, since a single one doesn’t have all the features.
Someone should tell Sherri from Dewalt that it’s not a 4-way.
Big Richard
Ha, I see her answers on different websites all the time (HD, Lowes, Farm & Fleet, etc.), and they are incorrect more often than not.
MM
I think that many of the reps are like that. I’ve run into both Dewalt and Milwaukee reps at HD and both of them have told me things which are straight-up physically impossible.
N. Berg
To be clear the Powerstack batteries do not deliver 50% more capacity or runtime. The 50% increase is only to how much current they can supply at once. It’s like a car having more horsepower but the same range per tank.
A Powerstack 5ah battery probably wouldn’t be able to drive more fasteners than a normal one, but it might let you drive the same number faster depending on the tool.
Gene
That’s what some of the tools needed, more power
Stuart
A compact 3Ah battery can deliver the same power level as a 5Ah battery. Different battery cell form factors and tech can break conventions.
Lmeyer
I have both the electric & cordless compact Recip and they both have 4-way blade holder.
MM
Thanks for the heads up on this. It looks like most of the big online vendors have similar deals. I’ve seen the same sort of thing at Acme and CPO with slightly different tools available.

This is not live yet but looks good:

Liking this combo 🤤

Can you charge powerstack batteries with a DCB115 charger?
Bill
Yes, all PowerStack 20v max batteries should be compatible any Dewalt 20v max charger.

Thanks for the heads up on this, Stuart! Good thing I had just cancelled my $99 DeWalt Atomic impact order from ToolNut, since they told me it was backordered until April (I originally ordered in November, was supposed to ship January 1st at the time).
Stuart
My Ohio Power Tool order on the jig saw and battery are expected to ship around Valentine’s Day. At this point, I’m keeping it, will reassess mid-month if it hasn’t shipped yet.
April would be way too far if other stores have the same tool readily available.
Eric
Living in Alaska, I’m increasingly disappointed with Home Depot. This offer is not available here, because Home Depot won’t ship here for many items. Some items will ship, some won’t, and you never know without checking the individual item. To make it more frustrating, their website shows the batteries as “Out of Stock” for Alaska zip codes; if I change my zip to a lower 48 zip I see that the batteries are in fact in stock.
In addition to the shipping issues, Home Depot often charges about 10% more in Alaska than in the lower 48 for an identical item. My other local stores and online vendors do not do this.
Increasingly, my money is going to other vendors, even though I like my local Home Depot and have gotten good service from the employees there.

I purchased the 5ah compact impact kit with free 5ah bundle from my store when they were $199 a week ago. There was one left in stock and payment went through. Two people in the store confirmed the order and said they had it. Order got cancelled. Placed another order online for same kit. The store confirmed they had it this time. Then told me that they didn’t and it would come from another store. Had to pay $35 to have it shipped to me, but that they’d refund it. It was supposed to be delivered monday. Then they called and asked if they could reschdule to Tuesday. Then wednesday. Today it got cancelled.
Home Depot has done this to four of my orders in the last year. Any decent deals that say they are in stock and ready to ship get cancelled. Their inventory control is completely messed up and it feels like I’m ordering from ENRON.
SJS
After seeing how those pouch type battery cells react to heat in laptops and cell phones, I’m not exactly on board with this new style of battery pack. Granted, time could prove me wrong, but for now I’m not convinced of their durability and safety compared to the cylinder battery cells.
jaytee
The drywall screw gun is available in the Powerstack promo, but the link in the article is incorrect.
Stuart
How is it incorrect? I checked everything when the post went up and I checked now and it’s still the link to the bare tool with “free gift with purchase” being the PowerStack starter kit.
Some of the promo items have their own bundle SKUs, others are “free starter kit BOGO” listings. There’s nothing I can do about this – this is how Home Depot chose to list the different options.
Big Richard
You left one out. You can also buy the 16ga DCN660 finish nailer and get the Powerstack starter kit free. Comes out to $99 for the Powerstack starter kit and $199 for the nailer after the prorated discount. Pretty good deal, imo.

I wish the 15-gauge Dewalt finish nailer was included.
Big Richard
My local HD had the 15ga kits on clearance last weekend, I don’t know if it was just that store a HD thing all over. They didn’t show up on clearance online, just happened to see them. Might be worth checking your store.
Ryan
Shoot, I bought the 2 pack at lowes last week.
I wonder if they will retroactively honor the primo if I bring in the receipt?
Stuart
You can try, but this might not be something they can do. Since it has only been a week, they might advise you to buy a 2-pack of batteries and get your freebie tool selection, and then return a 2-pack on last week’s receipt.
You can ask for a return-rebuy, but they will likely need intact packaging to do this.
