Dewalt 25 Foot Measuring Tape

Dewalt is soon releasing a 25-foot measuring tape, as part of their new hand tool lineup. The new high-visibility 25′ x 1.25″ tape features a whopping 13-foot blade standout, oversized end hook, and a durable rubber slide.

A special 3M thermoplastic film is adhered to the first 6-inches of the blade to help increase its durability and extend its lifespan. The blade is also Mylar coated for additional protection.

The tape measure (DWHT33385) will be available June 2011 at Home Depot and independent distributors with an MSRP of $25.

Although Dewalt’s new short tape looks akin to Stanley’s 25′ FatMax Extreme tape measure, which also has a 13′ standout, there looks to be enough distinct blade and body differences to differentiate the two.

I would argue there only difference is the name. The first six inches is just a tad darker in the pic

Maybe the Dewalt is better for lefties like the photo

I’m inclined to agree with Eric; that is simply a re-badged FatMax Extreme.

There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s hardly an exciting new product!

Are you sure? I went back and forth between the photo of the Dewalt tape, and Stanley’s FatMax Xtreme as shown on Amazon.

The two bodies look similar, but the geometry is noticeably different. I would say that the Dewalt is heavily inspired by the Xtreme’s styling, but there are enough differences that it looks to be a substantial redesign.

Obviously I can’t say for sure unless/until I can compare the two side by side, but I do see a distinction from the photos.

What’s up with the oversized hook on all of the Stanley, Bostitch and Dewalt Tapes?? Why can’t they make a normal tape!!!!

I can definitely understand the appeal of an oversized hook to prevent tape slippage.

My guess is that Stanley, Bostitch, and Dewalt are all using the same feedback or market research that says their target audience prefers oversized hooks.

I stand corrected. Yes i see i difference in the tape lock, Much bigger than fat max or bostich branded ones. As for the crazy big hook. I have a fatmax version and it is nice for framing. Nothing else tho. The hook is so big it’s awkward to measure anything under 1″
