Dewalt’s best 20V Max cordless oscillating multi-tool kit package, DCS356D1, is on sale at Amazon for Prime Day 2024.
The Dewalt DCS356D1 brushless OMT kit is discounted to $119.
Unlike Dewalt’s other occasional oscillating multi-tool kits, this is the no-compromise kit version.

It comes with the Dewalt DCS356 XR series 3-speed brushless oscillating tool, a 2Ah battery, charger, kit bag, a sanding pad with starter selection of abrasive sheets, a couple of cutting blades, an adjustable depth guide that can be a pain to source separately from parts lists, and an accessory case.
$119 is a fantastic price for what you get.
If you’re firmly on the fence, my advice is to buy it, and mull it over afterwards. You should be able to cancel the order or send it back if you have buyer’s remorse, but you’re not going to have much of a choice if it sells out while you’re thinking it over.
And yes, this deal usually does sell out.
Compared to the $99 Kit

Shown here is the DCS356C1 kit (regularly a $99 promo) on the left, and DCS356D1 kit (on sale now) on the right. The $20 difference gets you a better battery, extra accessories, the removable depth guide, and a nice accessory case.

The Atomic-series tool kit, DCS354D1, is regularly a $99 promo, but isn’t on sale right now either. The tool has a single speed range vs the DCS356’s 3 speeds, and comes with fewer accessories and no depth guide.

This is why I consider the DCS356D1 to be the no-compromise and best Dewalt cordless oscillating multi-tool kit.
This kit goes on sale regularly – mainly during a flash sale or two on Amazon around Black Friday, and then again for Amazon Prime Day.
It’s a great buy. Think it over, but think fast.

Terrible tool, unacceptable vibration for 2024.
I borrowed one recently for a somewhat heavy 5 minute cut, my hand was buzzing for an hour after wards. I don’t recommend anyone buy this, even if you are on the 20v system
My old 12v Fien outperforms this in cutting speed, and doesn’t give you HAVS.
Peter
I cannot compare mine to a Fein only to a Bosch and it feels normal for that type of tool.
I never had an experience like you had.
Fein is of course on a higher level than a Dewalt not only because they invented that type of tool. but also being a Fein.
A bit off topic but I ended up with an 18V Fein drill on sale and that thing is a step above over my other drills.
Harrison
It’s one thing if you’re doing a bit of scraping or cutting window shims, quite another if you’re trying to cut out an awkward piece of structural timber in a heavy renovation project.
It doesn’t have to be a Fien- any of the OMTs that use rubber or foam to isolate the motor/oscillation mechanism from the tool body are a substantial step up in vibration safety. The Flex, latest Makita, M12 & M18 Fuel etc are all much safer than the Dewalt. Bosch has both good and bad models.
Harrison
The blade release design for the Dewalt is clever, but that’s about where the positives stop.

Mine has been great. There is some vibration but not at the level you describe.
I do wonder if pushing the tool too hard can make the blade stop or slow down, and that would transfer the motion to the body of the tool, increasing vibration. I’m not saying you did that, but I wonder if that can happen.
There are also vibration-absorbing gloves. I haven’t tried them, but they exist.
Stuart
Oscillating multi-tools are not “push hard” kinds of tools; you’re supposed to let the speed and blade sharpness do the work.
Some tools do a better job of isolating vibration than others, and the same goes for sanders, reciprocating saws, and other tools. It’s going to be more noticeable when jamming down a tool.
Harrison
Eh, with a good sharp blade you can push pretty aggressively with any of the vibration isolated models mentioned in my other comment.
Harrison
Ultimately I must simply have higher expectations after getting used to my Fien MultiTalent. I would expect a brushless 18V Dewalt would be capable of the same cutting tasks as a dated *brushed* 12v Fien, but here we are.
The Dewalt has no isolation between the body and cutting mechanism, such that vibrations are constantly transferred to the user. It becomes more severe as the tool is placed under load, but again-
superior OMTs are capable of much harder and faster cutting while protecting the user.
Stuart
Yes. That’s true for most other categories as well – grinders, saws, drills, etc.
To be clear, I disagree with you about not recommending it for anyone, but I think your wants and expectations are perfectly valid.
This is Dewalt’s best oscillating tool, but it’s not on par with pricier tools from Fein, a brand that specializes in oscillating multi-tools.

The newish M12 Fuel is a little beast of a tool…actually one of those that even if you need to buy into a new platform is worth getting just for the one tool. Very low vibration and the blade retention I don’t think could be any simpler or more secure (magnets, too, which is very handy). Surprisingly runs really well even on the small packs but use the high output ones (2.5 or 5.0) if the jobs are just brief. Very compact, too, it’s just a rare 100% winner of a tool.

My experience is the opposite. The 356 is one of the handiest tools I own and gets used a lot. I’ve abused it on all sorts of projects, it’s gotten muddy and rained on and just runs like a champ. And as you mentioned, the blade release is brilliant. If you’re trying to cut a 6×6 then yeah, I bet it’s buzzy. But for what it’s designed for it’s awesome, and at $120 for the kit…that’s a no-brainer for anyone who needs one.

Where can I purchase that blade/ accessories case? Come to think of it I really need a case for reciprocating blades also and 3 inch cut off blades. All DeWalt.
Please advise
Thanks!!
Stuart
As far as I am aware, you can’t buy it separately.

Those are available on Amazon (or were recently anyway) but for like $22 from some random seller. I think they’re more freely available in the UK/Euro market. You can get them on Aliexpress (actually genuine) for $12-$15…takes some searching but there are a handful of legit tool vendors on there who are selling genuine product (there’s a great one for Makita too).
Soft case, but the round EVA zip cases for earbuds will hold a dozen or so 3″ cutoff wheels with just enough diameter to spare. Best deal I found for a recip case was just buying whatever cheapest deal they had on Milwaukee sets (I think $17 when I got the last one)…I like that case and it’s better than the ones from Diablo/Bosch/Dewalt. The Milwaukee clamshell OMT case isn’t bad either once you remove the liners and if you don’t mind rattling blades, but only when those are on sale cheap ($30-$35 usually).

Found it for you, and hey, several sellers now with prime and semi-reasonable pricing: https://www.amazon.com/N276779-DeWalt-DEW315K-Oscillating-Multi-Tool/dp/B00Q5JPOQU
