The 2-battery kit, featuring a charger and (2) 5.0Ah battery packs, sells for $579 at authorized Dewalt retailers. Somehow, that same 2-battery kit, DCS374P2, is on sale at Amazon and Home Depot, for just $299.

The saw features a 5″ x 4-2/4″ cut capacity, LED work light, variable speed trigger, built-in hanging hook, and tool-free blade changing lever. Its blade length is 44-7/8″, a common size.
Right now, there’s free shipping at Amazon and Home Depot. Amazon’s ETA is said to be “3 to 6 weeks,” which usually means they’re waiting on a resupply and will ship out as soon as they receive stock from Dewalt.

It sure looks like a great deal – comparing to other suppliers prices and other kits like the Milwaukee 2729-22 ($579).
Just for giggles, I checked and it doesn’t seem to be in stock at any of the HD’s near me – so the shipping may also be waiting on restocking.

On the prior post about Ridgid tools there was a discussion about the color schemes that various tool makers use: Dewalt yellow for one. One comment was about painting your tools with an off-brand bright color to help distinguish it, pick it out among the foliage and possibly (by inference) deter theft. What we need is a palm-print-recognition- paint that disables tool use by thieves and also prevents evaporation (or possibly even sublimation) of tools that are left alone on the jobsite.

The closest we could see to that today is a tool with built-in scanner that only works when it can handshake with a user’s smartphone.
Looking forward, if embedded implants ever take off, maybe tools can identify a user from their grip. This could have lots of applications, such as in cars, firearms, door locks, point of sale payments, etc.

Funny when I spray painted my tools hot pink no one wanted to borrow them and they never got stolen.

Hot pink probably also makes them easier to find – if they get dropped into the shrubbery.
On a side not – isn’t it sad that we have to disfigure (and devalue for resale purposes) our tools to discourage thieves. The ease of selling on the Internet – has also made it easier to sell stuff – both legitimately owned tools that are no longer needed – as well as stolen goods.

Fingerprint recognition could be something incorporated into tools. It is relatively inexpensive now but durability would most likely be a problem in general tool use though.

Corey, Home Depot accepts PayPal. Between Home Depot special credit offers and PayPal 6 months I can often get a 6 month or more float, or pay in monthly chunks.
I was looking at the Milwaukee version because I have lots of 9Ah M18 batteries. Instead I got the Dewalt on this special from Home Depot – it should be here end of the week. YABP – yet another battery platform.
As for “walking shoes” on tools – there is the Milwaukee Tick Tool Finder. toolguyd.com/tag/milwaukee-tick/ I have those on the expensive tools. Plus I use gaffer tape in bright colors with an overcoat of clear spray. Gaffer tape is cloth so writing doesn’t smear like duct tape. Then I use clear spray to protect the ink and help fasten the the low tack gaffer tape to what I am marking.

We liked residential jobs – where we were the only contractor on site – that way we could narrow it down and round up the suspects if a tool went missing. On big jobsites where we were a sub – there was no way to protect everything – and sometimes a short lapse in attentiveness meant that a tool or piece of equipment would “go south” . Even big things like skid steers were not immune to thievery – security fences and night watchmen notwithstanding. We’d even chain up and/or bolt-down our Knaack boxes – in one case to find that the thief had access to a cutting torch and apparently knew the habits of the security guards.

Chris, As Fred says, buy this kit and sell the charger, maybe even batteries. I did this with the Milwaukee 9 Ah M18 packages earlier this year – kept the battery, sold the charger and tool.

A week or so ago I ordered a two pack of flexvolt batteries from Amazon and they said they were backordered a few months. A few days later I got a shipping notice and they arrived within a week.

I’ll be selling the batteries for $65 each and the charger for $25 on Craigslist.
It’ll be about $160 bare tool to me with taxes.
I’ll sell my corded Milwaukee for $150 after that.

They (Trick Tools) also sell the SWAG versions.
These “jigs” do extend the capability of your portable band saw.
Of course my setup with the Milwaukee stand is no where near as powerful/capable as the Do-All Saw we had in the shop. And while the Swag stands do turn your portable into a stationary/benchtop tool – they certainly are not up to what the big the 3-phase Marvel plate saw that we had could do. But a new big Marvel would probably set you back at least as much as what your garage cost to build.
