Mike wrote in with an early morning tip about this Dewalt 20V Max compact brushless drill/driver.
Normally $129, add this bad boy to your cart and it’s $87.99

I checked, and yep – the DCD791B brusless drill bare tool is $113 and eligible for $25 off $100+ seasonal promo savings. The discount is applied automatically, and the bare tool drill is $88 at checkout.
This isn’t one of their special buy models, it’s their latest generation compact brushless drill. There’s one newer drill, DCD792, but that’s the Tool Connect version.
I’ve been writing about special holiday season combo its, drill kits, and other such promos. But if all you want is a simple drill upgrade, and you have all the batteries and chargers you need, $88 for a drill that typically retails for $129 is a great buy!

Any great deals on quality (made in USA, Germany, Japan, etc.) Forstner bit sets? Thanks!
fred
I’ve never seen any great deals on the Famag (regular or Bormax style) bits that I like. Infinity Cutting tools has a 10pc. Colt set “on sale” for $319 – but I’m not sure how much of a sale that is. For about the same price you can buy a 16pc Freud set at Woodcraft or Rockler (a bit cheaper) A 16PC Fisch set (FSA-196037) would cost about $338 at Zoro with their 25% off discount
fred
Tyler Tool has the 16 pc Freud set for $218 – which looks like a good price.
A 16 pc Famag Bormax set is $547.15 at Carbide Processors (sometimes they offer a small discount for email subscribers)

Thanks Fred, I will look into those, most I had not heard of, stop far I was looking between wood owl and freud
fred
You probably will not go wrong with either brand. We used Wood Owl auger bits and were pleased with their quality. We did not use Freud Forstner bits – but used lots of their saw blades and router bits – with no complaints.

By no means is the current price a good deal but these have been on sale in the past.
Austrian made.

Might be one to keep an eye on long term.

Another option, thanks Joe

Nice find. Bought. Thank you

I don’t drill often but when I do I prefer DCD791, excellent drill excellent price! Wish the 796 would price drop similarly.

How is this compare to the DCD996 which I’m keeping my eye on?
Thanks
Stuart
This is a compact drill, the DCD996 is a heavier duty drill and with 3 speed settings instead of 2.
In other words, this is the DCD996’s little brother.

The DCD996 also has a hammer function, if that is important.
I vaguely remember there being a 2 speed compact brushless hammer drill that slots in between the 991, and ‘premium’ 996. I have never seen it in person, though. This could’ve been an option with just the first gen 20v max brushless drills from a few years ago, can’t remember.
Stuart
Good point – thanks for the catch!
Ray D
Thanks both,
Probably an overkill but I’ll go with the bigger brother DCD996 so that I don’t ache for something bigger down the road. Good deals on them right now with HD’s DeWalt 2+2 special buy.
Great site and informative read. Helped me out a bunch. Thanks again.
Joe
Best drill driver around at a great price
