Sam (thank you!) mentioned a good deal that’s going on at Amazon right now. This Dewalt DCK281D2 compact brushless drill and impact driver kit is $220, and eligible for $25 off $100+ savings, resulting in a final price of $195.

This kit, DCK281D2, comes with a DCD790 drill, DCF886 impact driver, a carrying bag, charger, and (2) 2.0Ah battery packs.
It’s not Dewalt’s latest and greatest brushless combo kit – that would be the DCK283D2 kit that comes with a DCD791 drill and DCF887 impact driver.
Amazon says the kit “was” priced at $279, and while that might have been true a long time ago, its price ceiling would have been $259 as soon as the DCK283D2 came out.
This kit was a “deal of the day” last November, for $189, and I discussed the pricing in that post.
At the time, the newer kit was priced at $259, and it’s at that price today too. I purchased a set as a giveaway prize for a reader back in March 2017, and paid the same – $259. Again, that’s for the DCK283D2 kit.
The pricing history for this deal kit, DCK281D2, looks to be all over the place, but its current “sale” price looks reasonable, at $220. I think $40 is a good step between this kit and the newer one.

But $195 after coupon? While not as good as last year’s deal of the day price, it’s close enough for me to call this a hot deal.
The main difference between the drills is the lack of advanced LED lighting modes in the DCD790 model, and the main difference in the impact drivers is the lack of 3-speed and torque settings in the single-speed DCF886.
If you’re okay with those tradeoffs, this kit is a good buy at under $200.

The $25 discount is applied at checkout, and the kit must be purchased from Amazon directly, and not a 3rd party seller.
You might be tempted to compare prices on Google, which I did too, but other dealers show prices hovering around $279, which is simply wrong. This kit is not selling for $279 when the newer version has a $259 ceiling at authorized dealers.

It seems to be priced at $279 by Home Depot – so maybe Amazon is OK with their claim on price

Yes, but it’s not available from Home Depot online or in stores.
Maybe it was $279, but I felt compelled to mention that this isn’t a fair representation of its current regular street price.

So this is the first tool set I purchased from DeWalt about 3 years ago. I have used them to build and remodel multiple houses and they’re (batteries included) still going strong. However, the DCF886 chuck! Did they ever fix it with newer editions? Unlike the DCF887 which I now own as well, the dcf886 can’t hold a bit on repetitive drilling to save it’s life. Pocket holes or cabinetry drilling, even punching through 2×4 joists with a spade bit for electrical, all make the bit loose. The newer, chunkier DCF887 feels like a real drill but I prefer the compact dcf886 for tighter spaces, cabinetry or over the head drilling. Just curious to know if the chuck issue was ever fixed…

It’s hard to say. Dewalt makes improvements and adjustments to tools over the years, but they’re not often announced.
You could try a new one to see if you have a better experience, and if not, then a quick return of the tool should all but erase the entire experience.
mosh
You can compare the type they usually change the type and never had any issues with my chuck
Thanks
